Why aren’t there more books about old people??. Starsky & Hutch + Cagney & Lacey + The Golden Girls Coopers Chase is a dream retirement community. There’s Zumba, sprawling estates, and the best durn parking commission in the country! Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim, and Ron live for Thursdays. The Jigsaw Room is free to try their hand at unsolved murders..well, when a murder takes place, they feel they can show the police a thing or two... I absolutely ADORED this! Golden Girls is my favorite show of all time. As a reader, I always wonder why there aren’t more books about old people. I would seriously read the heck out of a book about a granny (or grandpa, or even better, an older person that never had kids) falling down a hole or fighting crimes with knitting needles as their weapon and a multitude of cats at their side. I tend to stick to the 80s and 90s when it comes to entertainment, plus I’m from the States, so I’m sad to say I was not already familiar with Mr. Osman. But you can bet your bottom dollar I’ll be following this series and anything else he writes from now on! Buy this book for yourself or anyone who loves a good mystery. If you’re twisted, get it for someone who doesn’t believe the elderly are capable of FANTABULOUS things!!
Thursday Murder Club. Although the beginning was a little slow for me, I was completely drawn into this witty, charming, suspenseful novel. Enjoyed every bit of it and can’t wait to read what’s next for the Thursday Murder Club.
Rich characters you wish you knew. Amazing story with such fabulous characters, you want to join the Murder Club! I laughed and cried - beautifully written!
The Thursday Murder Club By Richard Osman. This book was selected in Book Club. We will discuss it this evening... in a zoomroom. We discuss plot and how the writer uses words to express emotions, painting images through a story that either grabs you or doesn’t. This was a grab me book.the plot was a bit of a climax climb with a lot of additions that usually I will share could have become convoluted. This one does not! The characters are built gradually with great thought and in the end extra room for our discussions of possibly this or that? We usually choose a favorite character and share why... with why we liked or didn’t like the book with a 0-10 rating! We all finish whatever book is chosen by the host! 20 years we’ve met and this is our 1st book in 2021. A light enjoyable mystery is a rare book. I truly enjoyed it and it will bring a great discussion.
Thursday Murder Club. Very humorous murder mystery. Contemporary writing style with hilarious slang incorporated. A lot of characters!
Cozy Murder Mystery. Great book, easy to digest chapters, and a fantastic array of characters. The only reason why its not five stars is because I felt too comfortable with the cast and honestly lost interest in who the murderer was. Great overall!
Great read. I enjoyed this book
Fun and silly with good twists. This had great characters and realistic ridiculousness. I liked several plot twists which I normally see coming but not here. Pleasurable escape.
Delightful. It’s like a mix between The Golden Girls and a Murder Mystery! I loved it!
Fun read. This book has a bit of humor mixed with mystery. I smiled, cried and laughed reading this book. Thank you.
The Thursday Murder Club. I hated the writing and the story development. Too many characters, too many details about inconsequential things that was too distracting. The conversations just prattled on and on, making it annoying.
Must read. If you love trying to solve mysteries or crimes. This is the book for you. So many twists and turns that you think you have it solved and wham the author throws on another twist. The characters are are what make it enjoyable !! It started out slow for me. But so glad I kept going .Enjoy!!!!’
Delightful. These characters are so lovable and so beautifully developed. This book was a joy.
Lovely. Just read this book again! Wonderful fun. Good story and interesting cast of characters.
Love!. Captivating , funny, and twists till the very end
Lovely!. The perfect cozy mystery. Highly recommend!
Wow. Utterly charming. Casually profound. Characters you would want as your best friends. Excellent story telling. Pure delight. Please keep writing!
Great read. Such a good read. Humor mixed with the thrill of a mystery.
Amusing yet touching. Entertaining and insightful.
Decent. This was a decent book! I think I was too excited to read it if that makes sense. I’d heard great things, but for whatever reason this one just didn’t completely pull me in. The story was novel, and the characters and premise were cool, but I just didn’t get excited to pick it up. I almost feel like there were too many characters and storylines happening at once?
Delightful characters. The novel develops several characters in great detail, and gives them rich personalities. These characterizations are, for me, a greater strength than the story line. The book was altogether entertaining.
A hidden gem. I have read 26 books so far this year, and this was my favorite. What a hidden gem. More people should be talking about this book! I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
Such a great book!. Great plot, great characters and kept me guessing until the end.
Quick Witted Fun. Dances along on a breeze then surprises you with deep turns into the human experience. Great fun.
The Thursday Murder Club. Loved it!! Absolutely loved it! Can’t wait to read the next one in the series.
The Thursday Murder Club. This is really a funny laugh out loud book. The title might throw you off, but it is a fun read
Fun activity for retirees. I am glad I read this book. It was inspiring for the aging population. I only read at night so struggled to remember all the characters from the different time periods. So don’t ask me who was the killer.
A Slow But Steady Cozy Mystery. Seeing rave reviews beforehand drove my expectations sky high, but thankfully I had a pleasant reading experience. The small English village setting where everyone knows everyone gave me the cozy mystery vibes I was looking for. Warning: Do not expect a thrilling amount of action! Aside from the descriptions and discussions of criminal cases ranging from smuggling to murder, you’re following four sleuthing seventy-year-olds who live in a retirement community. They’re plucky and capable of more than expected but still have their limits. If you align your expectations with the acitivity levels of Marple or Poirot, you’ll have a much better chance of enjoying this slow but steady mystery. Despite more than ten characters and one hundred chapters, the Thursday Murder Club stays front and center, mentioned or appearing in approximately seventy-five percent of the book. Included in those ninety chapters are twenty-five diary entries from Joyce Meadowcroft, giving personal updates as the murder investigation moves along. Joyce is definitely my favorite character so far. She brings medical knowledge to the table as a former nurse, and I relate to her being underestimated just because she’s quiet. Using that to her advantage, she gets the inside scoop and spreads the word before you even know she was there. Turning lemons into opportunity. I love it! I’m assuming the next three books will feature POV chapters from the other club members which is a nice way to get acquainted with the main characters. I’m excited to learn more about them, especially enigmatic, former spy Elizabeth. She has secrets, and I want to know every single one. Let’s go back to what I discussed earlier because the one element holding “The Thursday Murder Club” back from a perfect rating is pace. I’ve read and loved slow burn mysteries before but this time found my attention wandering every few pages. I had to purpose to sit down and focus because I wasn’t feeling eager to dive back in. Eventually I got into a reading groove and enjoyed the story, even getting emotional a few times. It was interesting to read about an age group looking at the end of their life and dealing with the circumstances that come with that. The main characters carry some heavy burdens such as disrespect from younger persons, loved ones with dementia, and grief over the constant loss of friends and acquaintances. That kind of subject matter makes you realize there is no age when you know everything, and your days are smooth sailing. Every phase of life come with its own set of challenges, and you will always be a student, learning through the ups and downs. Struggles aside, I’m so glad I picked this up because the age aspect was outside my comfort zone and thought-provoking. I’m settling on four stars and recommend this book to cozy mystery fans who don’t mind a slow burn and a tear or two. • -> Full content breakdown on my blog LaurenMicheleLifestyle on Wordpress

Excellent book, but…. This is a British book, written by a British author. Why are words like “favour” and “neighbour” misspelled (ie without the “u”)? It keeps throwing me out of the story. Why are you using the American spelling in a British book sold in Canada?
Excellent Read with a Lot of Heart. thoroughly enjoyed this. a great mystery with a wonderful cast of characters who were impossible to not fall in love with. I originally picked up this book thinking it was a classic, cozy whodunnit - which it certainly is - but I was pleasantly surprised at the depth and heart this book had. Very excited to read the rest of the series.
