#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • From the author of Small Great Things and A Spark of Light comes a “powerful” (The Washington Post) novel about the choices that alter the course of our lives.

NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY MARIE CLAIRE

Everything changes in a single moment for Dawn Edelstein. She’s on a plane when the flight attendant makes an announcement: Prepare for a crash landing. She braces herself as thoughts flash through her mind. The shocking thing is, the thoughts are not of her husband but of a man she last saw fifteen years ago: Wyatt Armstrong.

Dawn, miraculously, survives the crash, but so do all the doubts that have suddenly been raised. She has led a good life. Back in Boston, there is her husband, Brian, their beloved daughter, and her work as a death doula, in which she helps ease the transition between life and death for her clients.

But somewhere in Egypt is Wyatt Armstrong, who works as an archaeologist unearthing ancient burial sites, a career Dawn once studied for but was forced to abandon when life suddenly intervened. And now, when it seems that fate is offering her second chances, she is not as sure of the choice she once made.

After the crash landing, the airline ensures that the survivors are seen by a doctor, then offers transportation to wherever they want to go. The obvious destination is to fly home, but she could take another path: return to the archaeological site she left years before, reconnect with Wyatt and their unresolved history, and maybe even complete her research on The Book of Two Ways—the first known map of the afterlife.

As the story unfolds, Dawn’s two possible futures unspool side by side, as do the secrets and doubts long buried with them. Dawn must confront the questions she’s never truly asked: What does a life well lived look like? When we leave this earth, what do we leave behind? Do we make choices . . . or do our choices make us? And who would you be if you hadn’t turned out to be the person you are right now?

A boring textbook type book with no ending. How can I drag through 400 pages of a story that reads like a textbook? Because I wanted to see how the main characters wind up and guess what? You don’t get to find out! Read this book of you like reading pages about quantum mechanics, ancient Egyptians, and being hella disappointed that there is zero resolution

Boo-Lady

Amazing. This is one of the best books I have ever read. The juxtaposition of the apparent contradictions of quantum physics (very clearly explained), with the apparent contradictions of the roles and behavior of Egyptian gods (also very clearly explained), intertwined with the contradictory stories of the main characters, is so incredibly delicious that there are not words to describe it. If you are unfamiliar with either quantum physics or theories about ancient Egypt, just let the story flow and enjoy it - but keep in mind that there may be apparent contradictions. That’s ok. It’s life.

Buttercup8601

Wonderful book. Wonderful book that sheds light on the difficult subject of death, teaches you about Egyptology and of course a love story. I think this is one of Jodie Picoult’s best!

Kaitlyn hehl

Disappointed. Jodi Picoult is my favorite author, but I struggled with this one. Just as the ending was starting to get good and I told myself it was worth sticking with it, the final ending was disappointing. Hoping it’s due to a sequel to the book in the future but even then, I may not read it.

IVPartDeux

Let’s talk about death. I happened to read this book as my father-in-law was dying of stage IV bladder cancer that had spread to his bones. I watched as his wife, her son, his girlfriend and other friends of the family tried (in vain) to keep him alive and not talk about the reality and inevitability of death. I learned a valuable lesson in the two weeks we spent by his side: How NOT to handle the end of someone’s life. Reading the Book of Two Ways gave me comfort during this time. Jodi Piccoult is one of my favorite authors, and I always learn something from her well-researched writing and interesting topics! Thank you for this beautiful book.

Sllilly003

Cried many times. Jodi Picoult is my favorite author. I’ve read all of her books. This one got missed for a few years because the reviews scared me. I missed out big time. I love the research that goes into her books. It is very apparent. The subject of Egyptology is not the most fascinating to me but I learned a lot.

Book of two ways. I love Jodi and every book she’s written. Even though this one could be a little harder to read than usual, very scientific on two different levels, it was still a good read. I will say I was disappointed in the ending, because I prefer a definitive ending.

AMSReader

Two Paths, No Resolution. Loved the entire story, but the end..... 😫 After all the reader goes through on this emotional roller coaster, it’s not a fair ending.

DeniseK.

The Book of Two Ways. This is not one of Jodi Piccoult ‘s best books. I could not finish it. Very disappointing!

Kovydog

Too long. I actually stopped reading it which I never do. Too much Egypt, too much physics, too long to get the reason she went back, too long, too long.

Bjccnor

Fabulous!. I loved every moment of this book! If you love to learn something as well as immerse yourself in a great read, this is the book for you! You won’t want it ti to end....

Bilingue Stef

Book of Two Ways. I loved this book! And I’ve read them all. There were parts that I thought might have been a little contrived, but she’s the author and she gets to do that. The more I read, the more I wanted to read. Kudos, Jodi, you did it again. This book definitely pulled at heart strings.

M$sper

Wow. Loved it! Made me feel so many emotions at the same time!

Truebeach

Grim. Jodi Picault is a wonderful writer, and this book is no exception. However, it is 400 pages of sloughing through Egyptology, quantum mechanics and death as a background to a feeble two-way love story which the author leaves up to us to resolve. It all ties in with the title, which she started out with. Too bad. If you want feel depressed, go for it.

Little freep

Disappointed. Having read all of Jodi Picoult’s books and enjoyed them immensely, this was quite disappointing and I didn’t even finish it. It was quite a let down as I was anticipating it with excitement.

DogtorT

Such an intriguing read. One of the best ones of hers I have read. Yes there is a lot of technical aspects to this story. A book that combines ancient Egypt, quantum physics, and death all while also telling a love story...it’s was a gem for me to read.

Daytime ops

The Book Of Two Ways. Painstaking reading. literally skipped about 200 pages and landed on the same words and same material. i appreciate her research but she ran out of a story. The ending was the tell tale of how she ran out of ideas. Not her best for sure

Drobster 1

A Real Drag.. This was the worst book I read by Picoult. I am very disappointed. The book is way too long. Too much Egyptology and the bouncing back and forth is annoying to say the least. To top it all off, the ending is horrible. Just as bad as the end of the Sopranos

Dkwasthe5th

Bummed!. Stopped reading it which really bothers me but I just couldn’t continue! I read to relax, not to try and learn about things I have no interest in. Waste of money.

Nonna1210

The book of two ways. I did not enjoy this book at all ... and I am an avid fan .... there was nothing that I liked about it ...

Calico Lady

Spellbinding. I loved this book! I found the story fascinating the way the characters were interwoven with the historical perspective of Ancient Egypt. The research for this novel must have been immense. Jodi Picault’s stories always make me think about certain topics in an entirely new way. Some readers did not like the ending. I feel that the characters were so well developed that the reader instinctively knows what will happen next.

NC774

It’s all about life choices. Yes, there was more info about Egyptology that I wanted to know, but there is so much more if you read the entire book. Pick it back up again, skim thru some of the stuff, but finish the book. It is so worth it!

Sdfrdeghfrjed

A Bore. Took forever to end. Very boring and unmoving novel

Jujfr01

Too Much Detail. I really liked general direction of the book and the premise of the story line. What I didn’t like was all the details of the Egyptology and quantum mechanics. I found I stopped paying attention to what I was reading when those details went on for too long, and I lost my interest in continuing to read those parts. I did finish the book and did like the ending.

#FreeBird

So disappointed!. I’ve read every book written by Jodi and always eagerly await her next one! I am so bored that I can’t even finish this book.

Geri Wolf

The Book of Two Ways. Too long and drawn out before getting to real story. Not up to her usual excellence

Sdrtywq

Profound, provocative and intriguing. I love her books. This is no exception. As a scientist I can appreciate the depth and accuracy of her research. As an artist, I am deeply engaged with her characters. This story will entertain and educate at the same time.

Tibberdoe

Disappointed. Disappointed with the ending

Rkowitz

I need closure!. Loved the majority of this book—the details and the research were phenomenal—but where’s the ending?! I hate loose ends. When a reader becomes invested in the characters of a story, leaving them hanging can be quite cruel.

YayaNetski

Dawn and Egyptian history. Good love story . Lots of history and back and forth in time and Egyptian history. Too much history for me . Less on Egyptian mummies and more would have been fine. The main character narrator was good enough.

Seabrooklr9

The Book of Two Ways.. THIS BOOK IS AMAZING! I read it in a day! I couldn’t put it down! I laughed and I cried! I even learned some things about marriage that surprised and comforted me. YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK!!!

Marti127

Wonderful read. Heartwarming and honest. Could not put it down.

Jannallee

Save your money. This is the most boring book I ever tried to read. Could not finish it and the parts I did read I skimmed over half of. Very disappointing.

Kdelket

The book of two ways. Needs an ending.

Cassipj

Book of two ways. A very different read for Piccoult but I enjoyed the “you choose” ending.

$&@*#%

Ok of Two Ways. I have always loved Piccoult’s books - but this one I cannot finish. I will give her an A for all her research. I just could not finish. $*@&#%

Lauer power

So Disappointing!. I was so looking to the premise behind this book, but it should have been listed as a “text book”. Painful. Not Jodi’s best work. Would not recommend!

Esperanzabuddy

Fabulous. A very rich and enlightening book. Truly one of the best well written and researched novels this year. History, mysticism and science weaves a tale of parallel lives in all of us.

Ki91690

Love this book, can’t wait to read it again!!. What a rich story, full of surprises and twists! I’ve been waiting for this one, now I’m hoping for a sequel!!!!!

Melsoupppppp

Amazing. This book was great. I love all the research she puts into her books. The ending left me hanging but overall I loved it
