Camino Winds by John Grisham
Camino Winds by John Grisham Book Summary
#1 NEW YORK TIMES AND USA TODAY BESTSELLER • “The perfect crime scene ... in the type of wild but smart caper that Grisham’s readers love.”—Delia Owens, author of Where the Crawdads Sing
The master of the legal thriller sweeps you away to paradise for a little sun, sand, mystery, and mayhem. With Camino Winds, America’s favorite storyteller offers the perfect escape. Welcome back to Camino Island, where anything can happen—even a murder in the midst of a hurricane, which might prove to be the perfect crime...
Just as Bruce Cable’s Bay Books is preparing for the return of bestselling author Mercer Mann, Hurricane Leo veers from its predicted course and heads straight for the island. Florida’s governor orders a mandatory evacuation, and most residents board up their houses and flee to the mainland, but Bruce decides to stay and ride out the storm.
The hurricane is devastating: homes and condos are leveled, hotels and storefronts ruined, streets flooded, and a dozen people lose their lives. One of the apparent victims is Nelson Kerr, a friend of Bruce’s and an author of thrillers. But the nature of Nelson’s injuries suggests that the storm wasn’t the cause of his death: He has suffered several suspicious blows to the head.
Who would want Nelson dead? The local police are overwhelmed in the aftermath of the storm and ill equipped to handle the case. Bruce begins to wonder if the shady characters in Nelson’s novels might be more real than fictional. And somewhere on Nelson’s computer is the manuscript of his new novel. Could the key to the case be right there—in black and white? As Bruce starts to investigate, what he discovers between the lines is more shocking than any of Nelson’s plot twists—and far more dangerous.
Camino Winds is an irresistible romp and a perfectly thrilling beach read—# 1 bestselling author John Grisham at his beguiling best.

Camino winds. Boring ,elementary not his best snaps290
Camino Winds. Wow, so bad. I won’t waste my time writing more than that. He didn’t waste time thinking about making this book worthwhile.
Waste of time and money. Very BORING BOOK!. BORING book. This has to be one of the worst books by Grisham if not the worst. The plot is very slow, and the whole book seems like one huge rambling run on sentence. Very repetitive. What an embarrassment for Grisham. Don’t waste your money on this garbage.
Long Wait. Not Grisham’s best. The book didn’t get good until they hired Lindsey and team. Took me a while to finish because the first 400 pages moved slow. The last hundred is the real story and moved FAST.
This one was really phoned in. This is a very slow and predictable read - the story warrants a short story at best - will not be reading the next one!
Camino Winds. Proof again that Mr. Grisham is a master of every genre he puts his pen to. This one blows everything away with gale force winds.
Camino Winds. Eh....I’ve read better. He’s written better. Disappointed. Can i have my $15 back?
Good Read. I read Camino Island and then this one back to back. Kept my attention.
Is Grisham hiring interns to write his books now?. Seriously, maybe he should take a break and get back to his center. Does he need the money? I could set up a Go Fund Me Page if necessary. John...call me!
Another page turner. Easy, enjoyable, and fun read.
Slow but steady. The book started slowly, but picked up Toward the end.
Quick. Not much here.
Not good Grisham. Much too wordy and trite, poor story line. Story stretched out to ad nauseam Could have been written in less then 100 pages Totally disappointed in Grisham’s need to pop out such a book of this quality
Too jumpy. The opening dinner scene with the rich characters got me hooked, but then the story rambled. This just should have been an island who dun it. The story was slow and the there was no courtroom drama. No last minute filings of motions, etc.
Not Grisham’s Best!. Did not live up to Camino Island which was much better. Seems like Grisham didn’t put much effort into this one. Couldn’t wait to get through it and move on to another book.
No Stars. I don’t want to give this book even one star but I couldn’t submit my review if I didn’t. I cannot believe this book was written by Grisham. I’m trying so hard to stick with it but I think it’s a lost cause. Don’t waste your money.
Camino Winds. I’ve been a John Grisham fan for a long time but him mentioning President Trump in Camino Winds in an unfavorable way didn’t make me happy. So John if you happen to read this how about sticking to writing and leave your politics out of it. You could lose a lot of fans if you don’t. Personally I don’t push my political beliefs on anyone I do my politics at the voting booths.
Camino Winds. Good story. Easy read. I enjoy Grisham’s storytelling!
Better than the first book but.... John Grisham is widely known for his courtroom and crime books and this had some of those elements but I had a hard time putting the fictional characters with the case written about. Using the term multiple times bad guys is non-descript for Grisham. The characters on Camino Island were too simple. I have read both books and I was only engaged in this one when the actual crime started with Nelson Kerr’s book... the contract killers and that stuff was more accurate for the author. Having a whistleblower case like this one was gruesome but I know that it happens and he dealt with the topic in a much different manner than the rest of the book. Almost felt like a novice author wrote the Camino Island parts and characters and Grisham wrote the crime. I am giving this a generous 4 stars because of the author and his past books that were crime fiction or courtroom thrillers. I actually had buyers remorse for the first half or more of the book. But when it got to the crime I couldn’t put it down. As gruelling as it was to read about it was indeed the authors style finally. It did switch back and forth a bit when I couldn’t put it down but overall I will give credit for a much better ending and plot than the first book Camino Island!
Not Great. By far my least favorite of his novels. Thin plot, uninteresting and not wholly likable characters. Expected more.
tremendous!. by far the best book I've read in a long time. never dull or slow. full of characters that seemed to come to life. a great read!! disagree with several of the other reviews...I couldn't put it down.
Page turner!!!. This was one of the best books I’ve read this year. Suspenseful, humorous, and intriguing! Absolutely could not put down.
Boring. Not great.

Fast, fun read.. Loved revisiting the players from Camino Island. The hurricane was great. Then it turns into some typical Grisham. One of my favorite authors nonetheless.
Hard to get into and sloppy writing.. It was soooo hard to get into, boring, and some of the writing could’ve been written by a child. I only stuck with it because I was stuck in a hyperbaric chamber for a two hour treatment. As this happened to be my last of 20 treatments, I just started the book, figuring it would be a treat. But wish I would have read the reviews first. To much wishy washy. I actually gave the book away when I finished my treatment. Disappointing. Come on, Mr. Grisham…..you can do better. I sure hope your Sooley book will be better but I will sure read reviews first.
Disappointing. Slow moving. Lots of time spent recapping the first book. I like Grisham, but he should stay away from sequels.
Don’t bother.. This book was boring and as another reviewer said, far too drawn out. The characters are disinteresting and hard to connect with in a way that draws you in. Was really hoping for more from Grisham.
Camino Winds. Terrible book. Grisham could not decide on a plot, meandered about and then wrapped it up with a few convenient, unrealistic scenarios. Very disappointing.
Camino Island. Been reading Grisham for years. What a flop! Not worth reading.
Camino Winds. I have read Mr. Grisham for several years but unfortunately, Camino Winds will be the last. I found the author’s reference to President Trump to be unnecessary and out of character for a top tier author. Likewise, I will avoid print material published by DOUBLEDAY. Admittedly a hurclean if not impossible goal, but I will try. As for Mr. Grisham, he’s out.
Camino Winds. His least interesting book by far. I couldn’t finish it. Slow developing plot....weak characters.... don’t waste your money.
Amateur writing. Very juvenile read. Definitely not a page turner. Could hardly wait to finish and luckily it was quite short. Quick write for a quick buck to pay for his house on Camino island.
Way to go….Mr. Grisham!. Not surprisingly, loved this read! Fast moving and did not disappoint!
Great read during quarantine!. Great characters as usual!
Not a good read. I’ve read every one of them and have nothing but the greatest admiration for John Grisham. But this one I couldn’t even finish. Characters are weak...and rather disgusting.
Fun book. Fun book to read. Very predictable but like most Grisham books it was worth reading.
Camino Winds. The ebook version of this book was completely messed up. Sentences written over other sentences, some sentences left unfinished, hard to know what I missed.
Amazing. Really good book
Slow-Going - BUT Eventually Delivers!. It took Grisham seemingly forever to decide which way his story would unravel - but he eventually got there.
Long way from The Firm. Each one of Grisham’s books is better than the next…
Great Book!. Please write a third
Don’t waste time.. Boring plot with an ending that doesn’t relate at all to the rest of the story. Not sure this should have Grisham’s name on it.
Camino Winds. Very disappointing. I have always read and enjoyed John Grisham, but this one left a lot to be desired!
Camino Winds. Good to the point that a trained assassin shoots her disabled partner twice in the head at point blank range and he doesn’t die, is able to be interviewed for 3 weeks and rats on everyone. No buying that twist.
Camino Winds. Always enjoy his books. This one not as good as usual. To far fetched and all over the lot. He can do better.
Good Book. Good book
Camino Winds. Excellent book.
Hunker down with this!. Grisham did it again. Fast paced, surprises, FL fun and always great characters. Loved the legal part too. Make this one of your house-bound reads. Hunker down with this one!
Superb. Grisham does it again! Not so desperately exciting to be read in a single all-nighter, but nice to savor over a couple days at the beach.

Unreadable. Not at all like the stellar Camino Island
Poor effort. I love John Grisham’s books, but this one is rather disappointing. Very weak ending in that it just sorta fizzles out. Next......
Nice patio read. Needed a quick, light read. This one did it. Decent story (a continuation from Camino Island) and characters.
Not his best. Story seems a bit forced and pedantic, with none of the freshness and suspense of Camino Island. The characters are not as interesting. As Bruce gets bored of his life on the island I found myself getting bored with the book. But ploughed on to the end. Could have done with more editing.
