Everything I needed it to be!. This was my first book by Charly and it didn’t disappoint. It was a page Turner and so real! It had my heart racing and the tears flowing like I was in the book! Definitely would recommend and will be reading more from him.

Wow. I almost gave up on this book and I’m glad I didn’t. There are so many suspenseful parts in this book that I literally found hard to read just because of how stressed I was for the characters. Great read. Highly recommend.

A real page turner!. A rating of five stars is too low for this book! I could hardly put it down. The character development was excellent and I felt as though I knew them. There was a startling and totally unexpected turn in the storyline which had me racing to the end. I’m looking forward to reading more books by Charly Cox.

Twist and turns. I loved this book it had a lot of unexpected twists and turns. Kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time! And the end OMG! The end was not expected and kind of infuriating but, guess you have to read it to find out why!

Amazing!. I loved this from start to finish. I literally could not stop reading until the end. If you’re looking for a book that will keep you captivated and you love mystery and thriller definitely give this one a read!

An okay read. The book was competently written. The author’s constant obsession with the protagonist’s coffee addiction and the “Lifetime movie of the week” perfect family trope made the story grind to a halt at times, and it literally had me rolling my eyes. Other than that, the plot was interesting.

Soooo good. Perfect pacing, explanations, and twists. Started what I thought would be a couple chapters one evening after dinner and ended up reading until a little after 3am, by the next day I was finished and had bought the sequel! Really really good.

Kept me up all night!. Intense book! I stayed up all night to finish it. Predictable in some regards but enough twists and turns to keep it moving forward and taking me along the author’s journey.

Heart pounding. An emotional roller coaster that you don’t want to get off of. At some points I had to check my pulse it got so intense. I don’t read, but could not put this book down. It was a book that I hoped would never end. Thank you for all of the intense feelings each page sent coursing through my entire body! I finished this book and 20 min. Later my heart is still pounding and my hands still trembling. A TRUE MUST READ!!!

It will keep you on the edge of your seat and has a surprise plot twist. I could not stop reading until I had read the last word on the last page. I am looking forward to more books about this Albuquerque detective.

WOW. Could not put this book down. Found myself trying to squeeze in a chapter or two at any chance I had! Charly has a way of pulling you in and making you visualize the entire story. Definitely would recommend!

Perfect. Amazing…Amazing… Every time I stopped reading, I couldn’t wait to go back to find out what’s going to happen next. Brilliant.

Gets better after half way. I don’t like books that involve violence to women. There are enough perverts out there already without giving them ideas. This has lots of such violence yet the two principal detectives seem more concerned in their coffee and eating habits initially rather than a methodical but urgent investigation of the crime. It meant I had to force myself to keep reading and, as a result, I took much longer to get through the first part of the book. I’m glad I kept going as the last third was gripping and I read it in one go.

Gripping Read. This was a gripping and tense read, at times you were on the edge of your seat, holding your breath, it certainly keeps your attention from start to finish, with a few good twists to the story that I just didn't see coming. How did I miss them? I like to think of myself as a good sofa detective! But then Miss Marple this isn't. This is the first book in what I hope will become a series, introducing Detective Alyssa Wyatt and her partner Cord Roberts who work for the Albuquerque Police Department. Callie McCormack has disappeared from her home Alyssa and Cord are assigned to the case, But when they find her barely alive they realise they are hunting an evil predator, realising that Callie is not the first victim to fall foul of this evil killer. The victims all have a likeness to Alyssa which is mentioned a couple of times. At the beginning of the book the chapters jump back and forth on the timeline which give a bit of an overlap of the events that are happening, at first I wasn't sure about this and found myself flicking back and forth to check the times and date, but once I got used to it it began to make sense. The story is narrated slightly differently from usual police procedural stories, in that it is narrated by Alyssa, and the predator Evan Bishop, so you see both sides of the story. The investigation, and the motivation and mindset of the killer. When the killer is done with one victim who will he target next? What is in Alyssa's past that haunts her? It is strange knowing who the perpetrator is, but it worked and didn't take anything away from the tension. The violence is quite graphic, also at times creepy, so not a cozy murder mystery, and not for the faint hearted. But then I like my crime novels gritty. Although I do equally enjoy a cozy crime story in-between. I felt that this book became more of a psychological thriller than a police procedural or could be classed as a sort of crossover of the two. For a debut novel this is very well written, the characters are well thought out, likeable and relatable. Alyssa's husband is supportive of her work and the family dynamics good, there are some moments of humour, which I like to see even in a gritty crime novel, as it can lighten it a little, rather than it be all doom and gloom. I would like to see more of these characters and get to know more about them, except for the amount of coffee drinks which was far too much and was mentioned just a few times too much. I give this book 4 stars out of 5 and look forward to reading more by this author in the future. Drawn into the book instantly. Charly has a great way of pulling on your heart strings with her characters. The suspense and pace of the story was good. It gave me feelings of sadness and relief at the end as you become entangled into the life of Alyssa and her family. The ‘what ifs’ spring out at you whilst reading this book and I look forward to reading more from Charly.

Excellent. Gripping and realistic. Thoroughly enjoyed the way I was immersed in the story to the detriment of everything else until I reached the end.

Definitely recommend. This book kept me gripped all the way through, it played on all emotions and at one point even made me cry. Had to keep reading to find out what was happening so only took me a couple of days / night to read.

I'm always a bit unsure when I start reading a book of which the author is unknown to myself or been recommended to me but Charily Cox does not fail to enthrall me and keep me on the edge of my seat so I am unable to put the book down. Very much enjoyed this can't wait to read the next in the series after getting involved with the characters and can't wait to see what happens in the next in the book world of Alyssa and co.
