lovely book of life, living and hope. just read it to my 8yr old, who said, “my friend has this book, and the mole likes cake and the horse can fly” and we read it as a family and learned a dear friend has cancer, and tomorrow I will read it to a leadership team of hundreds of hospice leaders… perhaps they will have cake! Semi Cursive Font. Couldn’t get passed the first page. The font throughout the entire book is the exact same font on the cover and is extremely difficult to read.
Gentle and Meaningful. My dad gave me this book when I was 13 and I never got to reading it until a few years ago. I love this book, and i hold it close to my heart. This book is very meaningful, and is written in a way that feels very gentle. It has depth, but is portrayed through simple and delicate illustrations with smudges and twirls. This book changed my outlook on life, and I always will be grateful for my father’s gift to me. I recommend this book for all ages, for anyone really. It’s such a sweet and impactful book for anyone and sheds light of things we may have felt alone in feeling. I love this book, and i bring my hardcover everywhere i go. I love reading it to kids and even my friends sometimes, and they all always love it. The pictures are incredibly sweet to, and the illustrator is obviously very talented, and of course the writer who creates a philosophical and yet so simple book for all ages that warms hearts. I want to be lowered into my coffin with this book in my hands to be honest, and i love it dearly.

Beautiful. This book truly connects with people of all ages. I grabbed it at the bookstore and my 7 year old son said his teacher introduced him to it and there was a most beautiful page in there at nighttime and they’re all flying together. I opened it up and within minutes was tearing up. Beautiful.

This is a book you didn’t know you needed. You can pick this book up and start reading from any section and you’ll find great comfort in its words and simplicity. You’ve spent more money and less so spend this little bit on yourself and you’ll completely understand what I mean.

In the book I wrote quotes and thoughts, wonderful portions of the story reminded me of his childhood. This is a great book to give to a child during these unusual times. This story will make you think as a parent and as a child about fear, friendship, inspiration, happiness, gratitude and love. Charles Piers Mackesy (born 11 December 1962) is a British artist, illustrator, and the author of The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse. Career Mackesy began his career as a cartoonist for The Spectator, before becoming a book illustrator for Oxford University Press. He also worked with Richard Curtis on the set of Love Actually to create a set of drawings to be auctioned for Comic Relief; he has continued to work with the charity that he loves. He was selected to work on Nelson Mandela's Unity Series project, a lithograph project working together with Mandela on the drawings he made.His bronzes can be found in public spaces in London, including Highgate Cemetery and the Brompton Road.
