She looked at the smiling, eager face of the little girl in the photograph, with dark hair, bright-green eyes, a missing front tooth, and her entire life ahead of her. Chelsea was last seen walking back from a friend’s house one summer afternoon. She never made it home…

An eight-year-old girl, Chelsea Compton, is missing in Pine Valley, California and for Detective Katie Scott it’s a cruel reminder of the friend who disappeared from summer camp twenty years ago. Unable to shake the memories, Katie vows she won’t rest until she discovers what happened to Chelsea.

But as Katie starts to investigateher PTSD flashbacks kept at bay with the help of her loyal ex-military dog, Ciscothe case reveals itself to be much bigger and more shocking than she feared. Deep in the forest, she unearths a makeshift cemetery: a row of graves, each with a brightly coloured teddy bear.

Tracing the silk lining the coffins, Katie links the graves to a stack of missing-persons cases involving young girlsfinding a pattern no one else has managed to see. Someone in Pine Valley has been taking the town’s daughters for years, and Katie is the only one who can stop them.

And then another little girl goes missing, snatched from the park near her home…

Good writing fast paced. Loved it

Slow.. Slow read. Best part was a few pages at the end.

Lcschnook

Choppy and Unrealistic. This story seemed to jump around a lot. Although nothing obvious was missing, the story would be going along, and then suddenly it was another place or day. I also never got invested in the main character. Never quite understood what so many people had against her. This book was just too choppy and unrealistic. About two thirds of the way through, I just wanted to be finished with it. By the point when the bad guy was revealed, I really didn’t care. And all that he did to Katie made no sense whatsoever.

Chelsnw003

I didn’t see that coming…. This book kept my on the edge of seat and I couldn’t put it down. The twists (yes, PLURAL) will blow your mind. Read this book, you will not regret it.

Mesmerizing. Mesmerizing! I couldn’t stop reading. “Just one more chapter, and I’ll head to sleep.” It only took me 3 days! I loved every twist and turn to the very end!

Good read. A little predictable at times. Quite a few grammatical errors. Overall was an intriguing thriller to read.

Read this in two days!. Loved this book. Couldn’t put it down.

Daaip

So-so. Good at the beginning, falls apart completely at the end. No explanation of how the bad guy’s identity is discovered, it just is , and the heroine’s escape from him relies on a really far-fetched coincidence

HuntHunt15

Unbelievable ending. Overall it was a good story line but the ending was somewhat of a let down and un - believable.

Mlawyer112

Wow. This is the first book I read by this author and I was really wowed by it. This is also the first book in her new Detective Katie Scott series. This book is about a returning vet battling her own demons while trying to find a serial killer who is murdering young girls. Katie Scott returns to her family home after serving and tries to figure out what her next move is. She accidentally sees a cold case on her Uncle’s desk and begins to investigate. She stumbles upon the killers grave site and that’s when the fight between good and evil takes place. I have to say what caught my interest was the description of the book and boy this book did not disappoint. The book did start off slower but that was great because we got to know all the characters better. By half way through I couldn’t put the book down and was trying to read as fast as I could so I could find out who the killer was. The ending took me by surprise and I was literally gasping for air hoping everything would turn out ok. Between the plot, characters and all the twists in this book it made it an easy and fast read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Page turner. Fast paced mystery. Katie has returned from being in Afghanistan to her home town where her uncle, the Sheriff puts her to work for him while she decides whether she wants to return to her former police job. Little girls going missing make Katie use all the skills she learned in the military to go after the perpetrator. Great characters, suspenseful situations and so many twists and turns will keep you turning pages till you finish this book. Highly recommend.

5 Stars!. I am so grateful I found Jennifer! As a long lost relative (my last name is Chase too!), I needed Jennifer’s work to keep my mind occupied while in the hospital with my mom. I flew through this in about a day and am so excited and eager for the second book in the series. Gotta go now, time to read! Thank you Jennifer!

Good title. The book started off great, I finished it in only 2 or 3 days but I was very disappointed with the ending, details started to slur and it felt rushed.

Dlh19981980

Great read!. Twists and turns until the very end! Great read!!

Bellalovesfnaf

So good, hehe 😝. At the time of writing this review I am currently reading the book for the second time. I’m a book worm I will admit, but, I don’t usually read mysteries twice. BUT THIS BOOK, I need to get moorrreee, I don’t have a job though so I can’t, but I will! >:D also highly recommended. It’s so good. I may only be 11 but I have seem a lot of serial killer books that my mum doesn’t approve if in my time, and so far this was the best! I love it so muucchhhh 👁🫦👁. I think that anyone reading this review that’s over 10 years old and debating whether to get the book or not, should, hands down, they should get it. And if your wondering if it’s age appropriate for your 7 year old child, it’s not, definitely not. And if some father(like mine) thinks it’s a cute little bed time storie compilation for little girls, it’s not, it’s a book about a serial killer. So there’s my rating! Good job(insert author name cause I can’t remember it😅)! U wrote a real masterpiece!

Swick Chic

Little girls sleeping. Great book

CenerBeaner

Overuse of adjectives.. It’s a huge turn off when the author uses 2 adjectives before and after nouns. I couldn’t even get through the first chapter. Reading aloud sounds like I’m in 4th grade using a thesaurus to over describe everything so my essay is longer. Don’t waste your download time or space on this crap.

Alaskan.Hammer

Sink holes. Good read, the sink hole story line was a little underwhelming.

XxxTinyDancerxxX

Gripping with the right amount of suspense. Absolutely LOVE a strong female lead with a touch of romance. This was such a great book and had me up into the early morning hours. Couldn’t wait to get back to it.

Zamer1230

Good story. Kept me interested the whole book. Could get a little tedious or repetitive- but the author writes well and keeps the flow moving. I didn’t understand where the ‘bad guy’ fit in, but that’s a ‘me’ problem, I’m sure. Enjoy!

Captain minnow

Little Girls Sleeping. Excellent read. Strength, determination, courage all came thru. Hard to put down.

Little Girls Sleeping. Very good read. I liked not being able to guess the ending as I often can with this type of book.

Great writing. I enjoyed the descriptive writing.

Northporchgal

Little girls sleeping.. This is action packed right from the get go. Female army gal comes home , reunites with her K-9 and gets a job via her uncle the super of police force. Meanwhile someone is killing little girls. Lots of action. I don’t readily give 5 stars. Only question is what year is this? They have cell phones but don’t seem to use triangulation.

Kyleneunger

Entertaining, kept me wanting to read more!. I am super impressed with the first book of this series, got it on a whim since it was available for free and enjoyed every minute of it. Kept me from sleep, reading whenever I could. Overall a great thriller, very descriptive, easy to follow along and had me guessing who the killer was the entire time!

Takenbyyourheart

10/10. Absolutely nail biting read. I could not put this book. The suspense and depth of the story was immaculate. Will definitely be reading her other books

Tazzydiva

Easy to read. The first book in the Detective Katie Scott series. Not really believable but still a page turner. Cisco the Alsatian was my favourite character.

A brilliant start to a new series. Having returned home from a tour of Afghanistan with the K-9 unit, Katie Scott plans to take some time out from her previous role as a police officer with the Sacramento PD, to doing administrative work for the Pine Valley police department where her uncle is the sheriff. When in his office, she comes across a file from a cold case where a little girl named Chelsea Compton was kidnapped four years previously, and whose body was never found. Still haunted by the memory of the mysterious disappearance of a friend at summer camp 20 years ago, Katie takes matters into her own hands and she secretly starts investigating Chelsea’s case with Cisco, her beloved german shepherd who she worked with in Afghanistan. When she stumbles upon multiple graves, the case is blown wide open to other unsolved cases of missing girls with a calling card of a teddy bear on each of these graves. It is then that she realises there is a serial killer at large, and one of the worst kind imaginable. With part of the mystery solved, a major part of the puzzle still remains, and it is then that the sheriff promotes his niece to detective so she can continue to work on the investigation. But being a relation of the town sheriff does not win Katie any friends and she ruffles some feathers, especially with the detective who was assigned to the case at the time. The race is then on, when another little girl goes missing to solve this case. Time is running out, but the closer that Katie gets to solving the case, the more her life is in danger. Do I recommend this book: Hell yes! I absolutely loved this book and Katie’s character. It is never easy to read a book like this when the victims are children, but Jennifer does a great job and is sensitive with the subject matter without describing the deaths in too much graphic detail. I really enjoyed Jennifer’s writing style and felt the determination of Katie in her need to solve the case no matter what. Even at the risk of her own life. This is a fantastic debut for this series and I look forward to many more books to come. Thank-you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Jennifer Chase for allowing me to read an advance copy of Little Girls Sleeping in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own and are not biased in any way.

GSF12

Too much action. I prefer psychological trillers.. Too much action, unnecessary delays. Not enough psychology or detection.
