55 year old empty nester—and freshly retired FBI agent—Kate Wise finds herself drawn out of her quiet suburban life when her friend’s daughter is murdered in a home invasion—and she is implored to help.

Kate thought she left the FBI behind after 30 years as their top agent, respected for her brilliant mind, tough street skills and her uncanny ability to hunt down serial killers. Yet Kate, bored with the quiet town, at a crossroads in life, is summoned by a friend she can’t turn down.

As Kate hunts the killer, she soon finds herself at the forefront of a manhunt, as more bodies turn up—all suburban moms in perfect marriages—and it becomes apparent there is a serial killer stalking this quiet town. She unearths secrets from her neighbors she wishes she never knew, discovering that all is not what it seems in this picture of model streets and neighbors. Affairs and lying are rampant, and Kate must sift through the town’s underbelly if she will stop the killer from striking again.

But this killer is one step ahead of her, and it may end up being Kate who is in danger.

I read thin in the small window of five hours. Altho it would have been cooler if Kate wize was the student instead of the teacher, you know, Learning about how to slice crimes and all, but it was still fantastic. It was a tiny bit repetitive, but it was pretty darn good.

I haven’t read a book in years however this ONE made me reconsider reading again !

I really enjoyed this book in Blake Pierce’s Kate Wise series. I Iiked Kate’s pondering as she looks on her life, current and past. I think his partnering of Kate and DeMarco, was well written. It showed the invaluable benefit gained by each character; the experienced Kate and the just beginning DeMarco. I plan to read the rest of this series as well as others written by Blake Pierce.

This entire series is one of my favorites!! Can’t wait to read more of Blake Pierce

The author brings you right into the story wondering what will happen the conclusion was too obvious for me knew there was something else going on but definitely worth the time to read As the true killer was a surprise Motive and All. Will definitely continue reading this series.

It was a nice read, but honestly nothing spectacular.

Great book, kept me on my toes the entire time

Slow at first, but I was able to connect with the characters and enjoy the novel.

I was on the edge of my seat the entire book! Loved it.

Good book. Keeps you guessing

The author keeps you guessing who the murderer might be until the end.

We will do the we will be righterdtsr E rwe dwe retssyssyr we rr

This book had me on edge, I was hooked from the minute I started reading it. at one point I had a feeling who the unsub was but then as I contained reading, everything that I thought I knew about who the killer was , wasn’t. I couldn’t put this book down, can’t wait to start book 2.

Half of the book was nothing but repetition. How many times do we need to be reminded that she’s 55, retired for 1 year, and a grandmother?

I enjoyed the characters and the story line. It was simple but not dragging so read in one shot. There were several typos which I find distracting but I otherwise enjoyed it.

Did not expect that one... good read!

This book is amazing and very interesting with twists and turns along the way. If you’re interested in crime and mystery, this is a very good book to read.

Fascinating. I had not read many books lately but I couldn’t put this book down! Loved it and want to read more from this author!

I enjoy excitement in that book. It was something that happened, then it was what was happening from what happened at the beginning. I liked it!

Riveting, intelligent, adrenaline pumping suspenseful.. page turner!

Only if she knew

Author lies in the book to throw off readers to figure out who is the killer. There is other ways to do that.

Decent story line. Tons of typos.

The motive was never really revealed.

The author got a bit carried away with “ho hum” details that really didn’t enhance the story but otherwise it was a good book.

This book really captivated me couldn’t wait for the next page. Loved this writing style along with the characters

I could not get further along in this book than page 58. It didn’t capture my attention and simply isn’t very well written. Just not the book for me.

Must read! I am definitely going to read book #2!!

Best book I’ve read in a while. It definitely held my interest page after page. I kept trying to figure out who the killer could be but had no idea it was who it turned out to be. Great story teller!

After taking a break from reading for a while it was nice to read this. I have always liked mystery type books and this one was ok. I’m glad it wasn’t graphic to get the point on what happened in any particular part. I really like this Agent Kate Wise lady. Def looking forward to reading more with her involved. Thanks for the read!

The book keeps you highly intrigued of what’s happening next. It’s definitely not gonna be the last book you read from Blake Pierce.

I like the book. Had some good insights into the mind of someone who has seen and done a lot of things. Good read!

I found this book to be repetitive, boring, and to have a completely self absorbed main character. It is hard to believe the author has published so many novels with such weak and uninteresting plots. The book was so bad I gave up only a quarter of the way through and am sorry I devoted any time to it at all. What a snooze.

I enjoyed reading this book for many reasons, two of which considering it was free and intriguing. Nonetheless, I was let down by the number of misspelled words throughout the book. Not sure how it was published/released without this being addressed.

I can’t remember the last time I read an entire book...this one had my attention. Great Read

Utter nonsense. Written for adults with fifth grade minds.

Slow in the beginning.... middle to end, I couldn’t put the book down.

Fast reading. Great characters. No foul language or sex if you are looking for an exciting clean murder mystery. Did not guess the killer.

Was this book not proofread!? The grammatical errors are atrocious. The publisher should be ashamed.

The story keeps you intrigued .. great storyline

Outstanding and very enjoyable to read!!

Blake Pierce has created another believable character, Kate Wise. This first book should lead the way for a thrilling series. While Kate is smart and strong she second guesses herself at times when she should be sure. I liked the pairing of the two females and look forward to see what they solve next. They compliment each other.

So addicting Not much of a reader but this book has me hooked like crazy Highly recommend this book

There were so many spelling and grammar issues that they actually were distracting at times. Does anyone even edit these books? The story was great....loved Kate Wise and the plot.

Highly recommend.

Good read, went through it in 3 days. Keeps you on your toes and is interesting. I would give a 4/5 star if the book hadn’t had so many typos and there hadn’t been a hole towards the end that didn’t line up about the solving of the murder. Also, it bugged me that they only ever interviewed neighbors once rather than surrounding neighbors of all the cases. Just didn’t make sense. Maybe I’m too technical, but just felt somethings were left out that made me disconnect from the story and to make me not fully dive in.

One amazing book very much worth reading it will keep you wondering what happens next makes it hard to stop reading....

Fast paced with a great storyline throughout. A detective you will want to enjoy again!

Great mystery!!!! Loved this book and great ending.

Amazing read from start to finish. The characters and action kept me going from start to finish

This book is perfect for people who enjoy Mystery and action. I read this book in like 3 days and one night I was up till 3:00 reading! 😂 I recommend for sure if your into FBI and murder mystery’s, stuff like that. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series!

A very good read. Good characters. Good suspense. Keeps reader interested until the end. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

I was hooked from the first paragraph and I enjoyed the entire thrilling ride! I definitely recommend this book and I’m looking forward to purchasing the next one!

This book was an enjoyable and capturing read. I wish the ending and killer’s motive was explained better though.

Good read

Story was great from start to end, can’t wait for the next chapter.

A gripping read

Reading the first few pages I felt like putting the book down the next thing was I needed to read more just to understand what’s going on. First book I’ve noticed the author had written about an FBI agent at retirement age. Intriguing and interesting but felt left at a visible small cliff hanger with wondering on what Kate will do next.

I downloaded this book for free a while ago and only came round reading it recently. I’m very glad I didn’t spend a single penny for it. Nothing works for me in this book. The story doesn’t make much sense and is very unbelievable. The side stories with the main character are pointless and doesn’t even contribute to bring her some personality. Reading this book I’ve learned I should stay away from very profilic authors such as this one publishing a book every couple of months.

Brilliant story, couldn’t put the book down.

Short but sweet! This book was fantastic - I didn’t expect to finish it in a single sitting but it kept me hooked.

If you like crime thrillers you’ll love this. Defo a true page turner with a strong female lead. I could imagine all the characters through the writers imaginative description of the characters and the scenes.

Do not read or download for free. To be honest, I’m only in year 7 and I found this utterly BORING but if u are an adult u may want to try and. Read it maybe you will understand it more. #rubbish

The Beginning uses lots of vocabulary that emphasises the story plan.

Well written and I never bored reading it.

Was hooked from the first chapter. Great story telling.

Great story telling, unfortunately too many spelling and grammatical errors to rate any higher than 3 stars.

I don't know who proof reads these books, but this one is full of irritating typos.

A good plot line - nice to see older female characters portrayed in such a strong and positive way. But the writing is slightly erratic , almost formulaic at times

Very good read. I liked the way it’s written and the characters are all likeable and establish common ground straight away. I enjoyed the plot and whole journey to finding out “whodunnit”. I good mix of conversation and story telling which seems on the decline in the books available right now.

Wow! I’m not much of a book person but this book caught my interest from chapter one! I was thrown off so many times and by the finally chapter I was ready to see what book 2 had to offer. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who like mysteries.

Loved this book! Thank you!

I rarely give 5 stars to a book, but this one truly deserves all 5. The characters are well developed, the plot rapidly moves along, yet still allows the reader time to understand the mind of the main character, Kate Wise. Her instincts are impeccable. I look forward to reading more books in this series. Agent Kate Wise and Agent DeMarco are a great team!

I would have rated his fast-paced suspense novel a 4 or 5 star book, if I wasn’t so bothered by the uses of God’s name in vain. The main character is described as a believer in God, but not so sure about Jesus. Another character talks about Christianity like it’s pure fantasy. I know this isn’t a Christian novel, but I ‘d rather know that the characters are total atheists, than read about characters who are so smug in their own intelligence that they have to be so downright negative about Jesus.

Why did DeMarco show up at the killer’s house? Just the routine return to finish questioning him?

Great mystery. Great characters. Hard to put down. Still needs some proofreading. It’s distracting to have to restructure a sentence to make it make sense.

This book was really good

Great to read stories about strong, smart, women. Kept me guessing until the end.

Couldn’t stop reading. Great story and plot. A terrific mystery.

Loved the book. Of course I’ve read other books by this author and I’ve enjoyed all of them. I never did figure this one out so it was a nice surprise. I highly recommend any books by this author you will not be disappointed. Thank you!

Blake Pierce - If She Knew (A Kate Wise Mystery—Book 1) Comments

About Blake Pierce Wiki

Charles Pierce (July 14, 1926 – May 31, 1999) was one of the 20th century's foremost female impersonators, particularly noted for his impersonation of Bette Davis. Life and career Born in Watertown, New York, he began his show business career playing the organ and acting in radio dramas at station WWNY. He branched out into a comedy routine, attired in tuxedo, yet managing to evoke eerily convincing imitations of popular movie actresses. Eschewing the term drag queen, which he hated, he billed himself as a male actress. Initially playing in small gay clubs, his fame spread. He took up residence in San Francisco, where his act became well known to Hollywood stars. As he toured, his costuming became more elaborate, initially adding small props, later full costume and makeup changes. His imitations were imitated by other female impersonators, and his roles included Bette Davis, Mae West, Tallulah Bankhead, Gloria Swanson, Carol Channing, Katharine Hepburn, and Joan Crawford, and these ...
