The Perfect Wife (A Jessie Hunt Psychological Suspense Thriller—Book One) by Blake Pierce Book Summary
Criminal profiler in training (and newlywed) Jessie Hunt, 29, discovers that dark secrets lurk in her new suburban town; when a body turns up dead, she finds herself caught in the crosshairs of her newfound friends, her husband’s secrets, her serial killer caseload—and the secrets of her own dark past.
In THE PERFECT WIFE (A Jessie Hunt Psychological Suspense Thriller—Book One), Criminal profiler-in-training Jessie Hunt is sure she's finally put the darkness of her childhood behind her. She and her husband, Kyle, just moved from a cramped downtown Los Angeles apartment into a Westport Beach mansion. Kyle's promotion has them swimming in money. And Jessie is on the verge of getting her Master's degree in forensic psychology, the last step in her dream of becoming a criminal profiler.
But soon after their arrival, Jessie begins to notice a series of strange developments. The neighbors—and their au pairs—all seem to be hiding secrets. The mysterious yacht club Kyle is desperate to join is rife with cheating spouses, and with troubling rules of its own. And the notorious serial killer being held at the psychiatric hospital where Jessie is completing her degree seems to know more about her life than is normal—or safe.
As her world starts to unravel, Jessie begins to question everything around her—including her own sanity. Has she truly uncovered a disturbing conspiracy buried within a sunny, wealthy Southern California beach town? Does the mass murderer she's studying really somehow know the origin of her private nightmares?
Or has her tortured past finally come back to claim her?

I enjoyed the book. It was different than what I’m used to reading. I would’ve enjoyed more suspense. The end of the book, left me 😳 but that was the last 3 seconds of the book.
I finally got to pick up on doing some reading and stumbled to this book. At the time it was free (hopefully it still is). Ever since I purchased it I’ve been reading every chance I got. It’s such a thriller. Im on to reading book #2 the perfect block. Give it a shot you won’t be disappointed.
Great plot twist i wish it woulda went a lil more in depth about her past
I really enjoyed the books by Blake Pierce. This one help me surprised at several different turns. I plan to read more of the Jesse Hunt series.
I have just started back reading in my spare time and this is the first book I chose. I work from home 7am to 3:30pm and I read in every bit of spare time I had, paying little attention to my boyfriend, haha! But I absolutely loved the thrill of this book and will be continuing to read more from Blake Pierce!!
Dragged the story a bit but I enjoyed reading the book.
The build up of this plot was really interesting. But then it kind of seemed overdone. I also saw quite a few grammar mistakes.
I loved this book so much. Amazing.
Excellent and gripping
I never leave negative reviews but this book is terrible. The main character is insufferable, terrible writing, predictable. I don’t understand the good reviews.
Wow, this book is a rollercoaster of page turning fun. The only reason it didn’t get 5 stars was because of the frequent typos.
Stayed up one night reading this for over 2 hours. As I progressed in the book, I had to physically cover my screen to read line by line to pace myself. Yes, it was THAT good!
Hard to put this book down! Great read, very descriptive. Love that I feel like I can see everything happening as I’m reading the story.
This book had me on the edge constantly I didn’t want to put it down. I can’t wait to read the next one!
Woah. Thats all I have to say. Woah
Wow ! What a roller coaster ride this book was. I couldn’t wait to find out the ending. It didn’t disappoint! On to the next!
This book had my attention from the get go. Wasn’t expecting the husband to be the psychopath! Most definitely a must read.
Amazing and introspective, I will always be a devout fan of Blake Pierce his books never disappoint me and I always love the way he uses and makes words that enlighten the reader to new world of his own making. Thank you for never ending pleasure.
Awesome book!!! Couldn’t stop reading; love the twist at the end.
Loved the story and the plot twist to this book. Kept turning pages and did not disappoint.
Blake Pierce, I feel like you might have been Junebug! You are such a detailed writer, it’s like each of your books are moments of your past! Love reading your books! Mrs. Martin
This book was quick & easy read. I immediately was captivated by Jessie’s character & how the story developed. The ending definitely leaves you wanting to read the other books in this series!
Didn’t want to stop reading. Interested to find out what happens in book number two.
Very fast paced story that is a true page turner. Nicely written with lots of twists and turns. Highly recommend and look forward to reading more in the series.
I liked every thing about this book
I was hooked on the booked after reading the first couple chapters. Great read!
Great book. Honestly seems like it was written by a freshman in undergrad, but it was good and I’d recommend it to others.
Very entertaining and suspenseful.
This book is absolutely amazing!! I stayed up hours to finish it !
I agree with others that the ending was rushed. I enjoy the stories, but the books themselves have so many typos and grammatical errors, I can’t see paying for the next. I don’t know how this author charges what she does for her books and sells so many books when she never corrects what readers point out time and time again.
I couldn’t put this book down! I read it in 2 days! That’s fast for me! I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Good suspense. Not too predictable. Great story.
Absolutely loved this book! So many unexpected twists and turns to keep you on your toes and always guessing!!
I knew there was something going on, but just couldn’t quite put my finger on it! The author does an excellent job of bringing doubt to your mind and keeping you interested, without giving away the truth at all. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
The ending was a surprise to me! Finished this book quickly and I’m not usually big on reading.
It was a little boring in the beginning but it all made sense in the end. Read the last 15 chapters back to back in one day
Couldn’t put it down. Read it in two days. Didn’t expect the ending.
I thoroughly enjoyed this ebook. Highly recommend! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This book was amazing it really had me surprised. It was very well written and the twists and turn are so unexpected but well executed. I definitely recommend.
The book starts off a little slow but when it spices up, it doesn’t cool down!
Haven’t read a book in a long while and this intriguing suspense mystery had all my free time! I loved it. Can’t wait to purchase the second book.
I did not see this ending coming!! What a great story!!
Oh my god, this was abysmal. I am an avid reader, and thrillers are definitely my favorite, but this is so boring and bad. It feels like a C-plot in a really bad drama series that’s six seasons in. The grammar is awful, Jessie is a typical Mary Sue who gets congratulated for being soooo awesome at every turn, and the twist ending is so easy to guess, I figured it out the second she started her practicum. I seriously doubt an adult who graduated high school wrote this.
I can not believe i finished this book in a month! Now im sad lol but it was worth it...So captivating! Loved it. Need to find more of this author
Such a page turner! I loved it! Suspense, mystery, plot-twist; what more could a girl ask for in a good book?
This book will leave you GASPING by the time you reach the end. I could not stop reading It. Extremely fast paced and very detailed.
Crazy, fairly fast paced psychological thriller. Part of a series, but also works as a stand-alone. Hoping some things will be further explored in the series. Really enjoyed!
A thriller. Worth the time reading
It was such a great book! Loved the mystery. It was a little slow at first, but once you start ya can’t put it down!! About to read the sequel 😁

It was written well, however the ending was very predictable, I knew what was going to happen halfway through the book.
Started off interesting but hokey like a bad made for TV movie including the end where the killer simply confesses.
Suspenseful. I was on the edge of my seat. Kudos!
Blake Pierce has a true way of making a reader submerge herself into the story. I truly love his writing style. Well written (again!)
Amazing!! Couldn’t put it down, read it one day. Grips your attention and makes you want more. Blake Pierce is an Amazing author..
Perfect ending to an already suspenseful first novel. It definitely makes you want to read the second book.
I really liked the strong female protagonist taking matters into her own hands. The plot left me wondering what was happening (in a good way). Nothing was too predictable. I liked the ending and it made me want to buy the next in the series. I’ve read a bunch of this authors books and this is one of my favourites.
I really enjoy the serial killer part however the Kyle's story line to me was extremely disturbing and annoying.
I really enjoyed this book. Fast paced and mysterious. Plenty of suspense. I look forward to reading her next book in the series.
Author American. Female. Started on the self published route and has churned a gazillion titles, all of them series involving FFPs (feisty female protagonists): Riley Paige, Mackenzie White, Avery Black, Keri Locke, the list goes on. Jessie Hunt appeared in 2018 and there are already 15 in the series (I think), all with "Perfect" in the title. (The other series have related titles too). According to her website, Ms B is "an avid reader and lifelong fan of the mystery and thriller genres," and "loves to hear from you, so please feel free" blah, blah. In brief Jessie is 29, has a troubled past, and is nearing the end of training as a forensic psychologist. She wants to be, you guessed it, an FBI profiler. The fictional world can't get enough of them it seems. Our gal and her hunky investment adviser husband (another oxymoron, like the perfect wife) have just moved from DTLA (downtown Los Angeles for the uninitiated) to Orange County because his firm's opened a new branch there. The neighbourhood and its peeps have a distinctly Stepford Wives vibe, which our gal susses out immediately although hubby doesn't see it. Meanwhile, she's swapped from USC to UC Irvine and acquired a new supervisor, then gets herself into a Clarice-Hannibal thing with a psycho killer incarcerated in a secret lock up facility nobody talks about. What could possibly go wrong, right? Nothing unpredictable, that's for sure. Writing Eager high schooler with stories to tell and limited interest in editing. Bottom line I read it because it was free, okay? Don't judge me.
Great read; couldn’t put it down!
This book was interesting but has a lot of missing words from sentences, often the wrong word has been used in a sentence. Which makes the book frustrating to read and take seriously. I would recommend getting an editor to help legitimise your work. Also it’s a good idea to keep your character names spelling consistent from book to book.
As always with Blake a great book, good story and written to keep one’s interest until the end of the book. Yes I enjoyed it very much, a great read. I definitely recommend it.
Ooohhhhh so twisty. Didn’t see them coming. Brilliantly written. I can not wait to read the rest in this series. Recommend to all
A suspenseful thriller novel indeed that makes you itching to turn the pages frantically for more inevitably exciting plots. Certainly, a great read for the quarantined loners out there. 😄
Great read, very well written.
Brilliant worth reading loved it better than any other Blake Pierce series of books. Loved the follow on books. Cannot wait for the release of the next in the series. Counting down the days.
Blake Pierce's books are atrocious and an insult to serious fiction readers worldwide. The stories are something that a grade school student could slam together in a very short amount of time. The number of typos, grammatical errors, and plain bad English is unforgivable but when an author starts mixing up the names of their characters there is seriously something wrong, and Blake does this in every book that I have read. Blake does zero research which can probably be forgiven as none is required for his/her stories which is why Blake's books are so blah. I only read Blake's books when advertised as free on Bookbub (thankfully I have not parted with any of my hard earned cash) just to see if he/she has grown as an author after such prolific self publishing...unfortunately I have been disappointed on each occasion. Blake Pierce should consider doing a few writers’ workshops. Blake needs to put more time and effort and research into writing stories that will grab the attention of people for their intricacy, attention to detail, plot twists, and intrigue rather than churning out the pulp that we have come to expect from him/her. It is also time for Blake to stop self publishing and employ some professionals...editors, proof readers, copy editors...people that will actually tell him/her the truth, that people are not interested in such predictable, clichéd, recipe book fiction. NEVER AGAIN!
Nothing else should be said if it is labeled PERFECT.
The story started off a bit slow, but then it became nail biting and interesting with the many secrets around the main character, Jessie. I was curious about her traumatic past, but that gets recounted at the end. A worthy read.
Such a gripping read and fantastic plot
The suspense was just killing. A really good book
This book is absolutely amazing!! Although the ending seemed a little rushed it still had me shocked and wanting to read the second book seconds after I finished! Highly recommend for an easy but capturing read
A brilliant read, a real page turner.
Stunning couldn’t put it down and what twist at the end , brilliant read, thanks
A good and quick read.
Really enjoyed this thriller, plenty of twists & turns, which keeps the suspense going all through the book. Not read anything from this author before, but will from now on.
Really enjoyed this book. Main character very likeable and smart. Plot was excellently executed with good timing throughout. Recommended!

It was such a great book! Loved the mystery. It was a little slow at first, but once you start ya can’t put it down!! About to read the sequel 😁
Definitely a page turner e-book that was well written. Excellent, thriller book that definitely keeps you reading. Highly recommend this book be added to your reading list.
Well written and loved the ending... definitely purchasing the others !
Interesting plot; ending left too much dangling: more a ploy to sell the sequels. Also at least 5 instances of omitted words. Could do better editing.
This was an exceptional read in so many ways! It kept me engaged, on the edge of my seat and even had me shout a few times!! Hahaha I was finished in record time & immediately buying the next one! My first time reading a Blake Pierce novel. If all the books are this entertaining then I’m definitely a fan going forward!!! #LoveToRead
What a great suspenseful book! I couldn’t put it down. I stayed up reading this! I managed to take care of my Kuleana & ohana; & still make time for reading!! I recommend this book & series to everyone!! Great book! Can’t wait to read the next book!
This book the perfect escape during coronavirus news. It is well written and interesting. A good read!
This book takes an unexpected 180 degrees turn that will satisfy your reading needs and have you looking for more... Downloading Book #2 as I type this review.
4-1/2 stars Just a bit too much all in one story which is obviously setting the stage for sequels. But certainly worth the read. Entertaining, fast paced and strong female lead
It’ll have you on the edge of your bed and fining for the book !
It is a great story and also has a great twist towards the end that one did not expect.
This was definitely a page turner! I could not put this down and read this in 3 days! Definitely exciting and thrilling!
Wonderful reading, can’t wait to start the next one
I just loved this book! I’m not a psychologist but I like reading about it and this book is all I was looking for!! After reading it I discovered there are four more books so I bought them!!
Very intriguing mystery with enough twists & turns to keep you hanging on to the book well into the wee hours. I gave this book a 5 star review because it’s kept my attention and I could seriously relate with Jessie Hunt. The Author pulls you in and their’s enough humor, vulnerability, and raw emotion to leave you with a profound liking for the characters. I cannot say enough great things about this book, as well as the sequel and series as a whole. Do yourself a favor and get immersed in this wild ride!
Did not want this, thought it was an audio book. No way to get rid of it!
So worth the read. Read the whole book in one day. I couldn’t put it down. So many twist and turns.
If you like girl chatter and useless rambling the first 50 pages will have you skipping down the lane...sorry, that’s as far as I could take it.
Quite an author. I like the suspense.
Lots of twists and turns, up and downs in Jessie’s marriage. Who can she trust and does she really know her husband? She always felt something was off with their new life in suburbia but couldn’t put her finger on it until she found men at their exclusive club cheating on their wives. As a student, she was able to interview a serial killer that left even more questions about her past when she was abducted as a child. Murder, drugs, cover-up, miscarriage it’s all in this book.
I wanted to find a series to start and I stumbled on this. Since it was free I gave it a chance but it was slow and not much exciting happened. There was a ton of grammatical errors which is just so annoying. I won’t be continuing the series especially since the next book costs money
Loved it- great book.
So I read a review before I bought this talking about how great this book was in the beginning but it got sloppy and rushed towards the end and I completely agree. It’s a decent book, if it would have kept the same pace at the end that was in the beginning it would have been a really good book. Still it was a page turner, I tried putting it down to go to sleep at a decent time but I couldn’t. I got back up and finished it because I had to know how it ended. All in all I would recommend to a friend trying to find a book to read on a plane.
This book is full of typos and grammatical errors, and the book doesn’t flow as well as it could. The storyline is great - I just felt that the plot was either too slow or too fast.
This novel is pretty short comparatively speaking. It's decent for a storyline but there could have been way more character development and storyline included to really get you hooked on the characters but it felt rushed and therefore a little flat. It's a short, fun read that really makes Newport Beach (Westport Beach) (I live here) look like suburban hell but written from the point of view of an LA lover I guess it's to be expected because of the OC/LA rivalry. I love a good crime novel so I'm hoping the author improves her character development.
This book was amazing! It reads well, it isn’t slow getting into the story like some of the other free books I have read.. And I honestly didn’t expect it to end the way it does. (no spoilers!) I can’t wait to buy the second book!
I enjoyed this book, it only took 3 days to read, but it’s a bit predictable.
Great book! Could not put it down!
This story was pretty good but seemed like it could be a lifetime movie it’s so predictable if you ask me but other than a pretty nice story.
I was hoping for a much better plot development and ending, but was disappointed at the end. On a positive note, this was a very easy read. Just not as thrilling as I’d hoped it would be.
Loved this book! Had my heart palpitating with all of the unexpected turns!!!!
Had some typos but it was free. It kept me intrigued.
I thought a free book offered in apple book store won’t be good. However this book proven my assumption about free is wrong. This book interestingly written well and I loved every part the book. Now I want read book 2 if this series.
This book is one to read I couldn’t stop reading it
This was such a surprisingly good book!! Every chapter there was a new mystery to be solved. Genuinely enjoyed this book!!! Recommend to everyone whose bored.
Kept my attention
Slow start but picked up and kept me glued
Loved the book. Figured it out though. Have read quite a few of your books and I’m not disappointed. Can’t wait to read on. Thank you!
This book grabbed me as soon as I started to read it. From beginning to end, I was engulfed in the suspense that kept me picking up my phone to read every chance I got. I was a tad bit disappointed at the unrealistic sequence of events that led to “Jess” confronting her husband at their home. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and can’t wait to continue reading more novels from this author.
The characters are well developed, as is the plot! This book has lots of twists and turns. The ending is well written and not rushed. Looking forward to reading more from Blake Pierce!
What a page turner. Can't wait to read the next in the series.
Ahhhhh.... the final page....twisted.
This is a quick light easy read that keeps things moving nicely. While rather predictable, it remains fun and interesting throughout. A page turner fo sure.
I really wanted to get into this book, but it’s not keeping my interest no matter how many times I go back to it. The main character, Jessie is, so far, a huge b-word. What a horrible attitude 24/7. Also, there’s a lot of unnecessary blah, blah, blah and I can’t get past it.
Blake Pierce does it again, catches you and reels you in. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
Back to my favorite genre, mystery thrillers. This one, set in CA, what is clearly the Newport Beach area, thinly disguised as Westport Beach. Our characters have moved there from downtown LA in an upgrade on job and housing. There are a few surprises in the mix which I will not reveal for fear of spoiler alert. Regardless it is rather exciting and surprising, worth checking out!
Amazing, captivating and addicting. I for sure thought it was going to be one of those predictable stories with predictable plot twists but it kept me on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t stop reading.
Pretty good book. Since it’s free, I’d download and read if you just need something to occupy you and kill some time. It was a bit unbelievable and a bit predictable but still interesting enough to motivate me to the end. Probably won’t continue the series though.
There were some good parts, but for me it wasn’t believable for the most part. It went slow in the beginning, then seemed to rush towards the end.
