Riches to rags. … Controlling to chaos. … But murder … seriously?

After her ex-husband leaves her high and dry, former socialite Doreen Montgomery's chance at a new life comes in the form of her grandmother, Nan's, dilapidated old house in picturesque Kelowna … and the added job of caring for the animals Nan couldn’t take into assisted living with her: Thaddeus, the loquacious African gray parrot with a ripe vocabulary, and his buddy, Goliath, a monster-size cat with an equally monstrous attitude.

It’s the new start Doreen and her beloved basset hound, Mugs, desperately need. But, just as things start to look up for Doreen, Goliath the cat and Mugs the dog find a human finger in Nan’s overrun garden.
And not just a finger. Once the police start digging, the rest of the body turns up and turns out to be connected to an old unsolved crime.

With her grandmother as the prime suspect, Doreen soon finds herself stumbling over clues and getting on Corporal Mack Moreau’s last nerve, as she does her best to prove her beloved Nan innocent of murder.

Arsenic in Azaleas. It was a fun easy read that kept me wanting to read more. The animals add to the fun.

Arsenic in the Azaleas. When her grandmother moves into a nursing home, Doreen gratefully moves into her house. The recently divorced trophy wife finds an enormous cat and a chatty parrot awaiting her care. She also finds proof of murder buried in the garden. As she adjusts to her new life, she begins her own amateur investigation that reveals more secrets in her new home. Will her curiosity lead to answers or trouble? The characters were amusing though the fact that local law enforcement let Doreen interfere so much was far fetched. Honestly, the epilogue seemed unnecessary and would serve better as an introduction to the next book since it restated information already made clear in this book.

Fun read!. This is book one in the Lethal Gardens series and it features Mack, Doreen and Nan. This quirky story is a witty, wacky murder mystery with crazy characters and their pets. In this first book there is NO romance even slightly happening. As a reviewer this genre with its lack of romance is not the normal for me but I decided to give it a chance anyways. As I started reading it became more and more interesting and before I knew it I was HOOKED! The murder mystery was brilliantly written. The outcome was surprising! Nan is fantastic! These quirky characters have just the right amount of crazy and seriousness in them. Mack is totally serious, more than sexy and I want more of him. I’m looking forward to the next book.

Cute story. I was kindly provided this book as an ARC; in exchange for my honest review. If you’re a loyal reader of this authors books; I feel I must warn you that this book (a first in her new series) is VERY different from anything else she’s written before. This book reminded me of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum mysteries. The book while dealing with some morbid events, was truly light hearted an comical in parts, but no hot-steamy love scenes, violence, or profanity. This book can be read by all-ages. Some may find it to be a little “young,” but as with most of Ms. Dale’s work, it is well written and a fast read. Story begins with Doreen Montgomery, a soon to be single 35 year-old woman who’s on her own for the first time. After losing everything but her dog (Mugs) and her expensive (mostly useless) wardrobe, Doreen moves into her grandma “Nan’s” home. One hour after arriving at her new home, Doreen’s dog and Nan’s cat (Goliath) bring her a human finger! Then the adventure begins. This is an entertaining and somewhat silly story. The next book in the series will be Bones in the Begonias. I’m looking forward to it.

Cozy mystery. I loved reading this book. Although she is a woman, she has become an unaccustomed home owner with a dead body in her garden and has no knowledge of how things work. Very entertaining read.

Arsenic in the Azaleas. Thoroughly enjoyable quick read!

Hilarious series start. Omg!!! This is a hilarious mystery. Our girl Doreen has just gotten out a marriage, (she got the shaft money wise, and hopefully that’ll change). She moves to be closer to her grandma Nan, whom just moved to a retirement home. Doreen’s first day involves her basset hound, a house that has seen better days, two new pets and a dead body! With help from the local PD and Nan, Doreen is on the case!

Arsenic in the Azaleas. Fun, cute book. Too many bodies for over stressed heroine to deal with in such short time! Look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Entertaining. Dale Mayer has done it again. An entertaining and suspenseful book with great characters and a happy trio of animals add to the plot. A great read, summer beach book or winter fireside entertainment.

Arsenic in the Azaleas. Thoroughly enjoyed reading about Doreen, her three pets, wacky gramma, hunky police detective, and her new beginning. Real page turner. ajr.

Arsenic in the Azaelas. The book was fairly well written. The twist interns were somewhat predictable but I wasn’t expecting what happened at the end of the book. I like the characters, Doreen and Mack. The pet menagerie was especially cute. Thaddeus, Mugs, and Goliath really enhance the story. I have a Maine Coon, Zoe, and she is adorable just like Goliath. I plan to read other books in the series.

Lindi rae

Arsenic in the Azales. I really enjoyed this book and the use of the animals to solve the murders.

Arsenic in the Azaleas - Lovely Lethal Gardens. What a fun book, including the three pets. The characters are all interesting and the mystery held my attention. I didn’t know who the “bad guy” was until the end of the book.

Should have done her research. The very first page showed a complete lack of knowledge about Kelowna and the Okanogan. A moss covered roof in an area that's so dry that cactus are native plants and rattle snakes on hot rocky outcrops are the norm.? In an area where the garden centres specialize in drought resistant plants she has a her main character looking after gardens that cry for daily watering along with a bubbling creek out back. Anyone who's been to the Okanogan knows that without irrigation the entire area would revert back to the desert it is and that Kelowna is a city with a population of over 100,000. Not the small town portrayed in the book.

Northporchgal

Arsenic in the Azaleas. Very entertaining and likeable sleuth with much potential for a buddy romance with the police chief. I love that it’s set in Canada although she could’ve done her homework on climate , and a few other details. The epilogue was messy, an almost rehash of the book. I gave it 4 stars because it was so different.

Dizehere

Arsenic in the Azaleas. Although I enjoyed this book and all the characters, I didn’t feel like I needed to read a rehash of all the characters again in the epilogue. Being from British Columbia, Canada, I was surprised to be referred to as a British Canadian, we are all just Canadians or French Canadians here as the French in Quebec have been granted the use of the term ’Distinct Society’. Many people in BC are not British, The British Properties in North Vancouver also have nothing to do with the ancestry of the residents. I think the author has only been in Kelowna in the Summer as it is not ‘balmy almost every day of the year here’! Check out the far below freezing temperature in the winter sometime, especially in the surrounding foothills and mountains which make the growing season short and quick. It is cold enough to crack an engine block in half in a truck. Mission is simply Mission, not Kelowna Mission or The Mission. Most of our place names are people’s last names or First Nations names, we don’t call our First Peoples aboriginal or Indian. More research required to allow us to believe the characters really live here at all. Forgive my critique but these errors do a huge disservice to all of us who live here and have for several generations and I find that seriously annoying.

V on a journey.....

Arsenic I the Azaleas. Found this book through Bookbub and thoroughly enjoyed it! A pleasant surprise to have it set in Kelowna,BC, one of my favorite cities ...brings back a lot of memories.
