"NEXT DOOR is full of completely unexpected twists—you will read it on the edge of your chair. It is Blake Pierce at his best! Another masterpiece of suspense and mystery. I highly recommend it to the permanent library of all readers that appreciate an excellent thriller, full of psychological suspense and with a completely unexpected ending. This is the first in what promises to be another excellent series. I can hardly wait to read the sequel."
--Books and Movie Reviews, Roberto Mattos

NEXT DOOR (A Chloe Fine Mystery) is book #1 in a new psychological suspense series by bestselling author Blake Pierce, whose #1 bestseller Once Gone (Book #1) (a free download) has received over 1,000 five star reviews.

FBI Evidence Response Team intern Chloe Fine, 27, finds herself forced to confront her own dark past when her troubled twin sister needs her help—and when a body turns up dead in her small, suburban town.

Chloe feels life is finally perfect as she moves back into her home town, and into a new house with her fiancé. Her career with the FBI looks promising, and her wedding is on the horizon.

But, she learns, all is not as it seems in suburbia. Chloe begins to see the underside—the gossip, the secrets, the lies—and she finds herself haunted by her own demons: her mother’s mysterious death when she was 10, and her father’s imprisonment.

And when a fresh body is found, Chloe soon realizes that her past, and this small town, might hold the key to solving both.

An emotionally wrought psychological suspense with layered characters, small-town ambiance and heart-pounding suspense, NEXT DOOR is book #1 in a riveting new series that will leave you turning pages late into the night.

Book #2 in the CHLOE FINE series is also now available!

Good plot. Interesting mistakes. Spotted quite a few spelling mistakes. Name mistakes made it confusing at times (Martin can’t dodge a punch thrown by Martin type of thing). Aside from that it was well worth the time spent reading.

Ddddddddddddddddddq

Next Door. Great twists but sophomoric writing. Even had a wrong name in a dialogue.

Jley1127

Great author. I’ve read quite a number of Blake Pierce’s books and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all of them. But I have to say, whoever proofreads these books needs to be fired. Every one of this author’s books are riddled with mistakes. Wrong names, misuse of words, etc. Makes the books look trashy, which they certainly are not. If she isn’t already she’ll soon be on the bestseller list. But let’s get a new proofreader first please.

Love at first use

A MUST READ. Anything by Blake Pierce is great. This one is by far my favorite!!!

Saucey Cher

Very good book. I was skeptical about reading this book because of the reviews about editing. There are a handful of mistakes but nothing too distracting. This was a very good read and an original plot. NO CLIFFHANGER!!!

MiLindaNina

Yes yes and yes!. Finished this in 2 days! Such a great book! Was not disappointed at all

Hnbraswell

I like this book a lot. I would read this book a million times I recommend this if you love mystery

Mystery. I liked the plot and the characters. I didn’t like the vulgar language.

Maryjomorrison903

Great read!!. I was impressed with this read. I can’t wait to read the next one! The story was very well organized and stuck to the point! I like the turns it ends up taking and the feelings described. Definitely a page turner!!! ❤️

Dbd29334

Boring. Very boring and predictable. Nothing out of the ordinary. Wasted time.

Decj25

Incredible. Great read love this book and the sister to sister interaction.

Best book ever. Best

Very enjoyable. Next door is a thriller and mystery rolled into one great book. I see Chloe Fine, the new agent, unraveling many more tough cases. You cannot figure out "Who done it" until it is revealed. You will not be able to put this book done until you have read the last word.

M_Gee

Meh. Good plot and story but felt like I was reading a Lifetime movie... Over simplistic and some really unbelievably dumb events. The editing was horrible... Wrong character named and wrong location...

Mli701

Next Door. Great book! I couldn’t put it down. It was full of suspense and amazing characters.

Dlpenni

Liketoread. Good read a little more on the sophomoric writing style with some the story

A Series That Will Leave You Wanting More. In the grand scheme of it all, this novel is full of a suspense and guesswork. It’ll have you reading details while your brain is trying to piece them all together. A solid storyline is offered in continuation with the series later on, However the investigation and the inclusions in this piece flow beautifully together and parallel the main character’s psychological journey. An overall great read for anyone who likes mysteries, especially murder mysteries.

Meeks146

Not for me. I read the other reviews but decided to try it anyway. Much truth in the fact that their are errors, I kept highlighting them along the way. My issue with the book was that it was not heart-pounding suspense, or suspenseful at all to me. I didnt really care about the next chapter. I’m not sure why it’s called a psychological thriller, bc neither of those words describe the book at all. I liked the relationship w the main character and her supervisor/mentor. Other than that, I didnt care about any of the other characters. I didnt understand the reasoning behind the murder in the first place. I think this author has potential but this book wasnt it for me.

Docthecat

Too many ads. I have read three chapters and after every chapter is an ad for the next book ! I have never encountered this before. I don't know if I like this one yet, why would I buy next book now? This is why only two stars , hoping for improvement!

Nickname5452316

Next Door. Interesting. Lead character is learning and given some rope by superiors instead of the typical story line of the lead going against authority. Story develops nicely, some action. Developments in relationships also interesting. Not a great read but worthy of one’s time and overall very good.

Swan rock

No opinion. Well written and kept one's interest. Wonder how people deal with such deceit and heartache. I believe there is an error when Martin's name is used instead if Stevens. Fran

Yuliana20g

Some mistakes. Interesting book and very easy to read and understand but it has a lot of grammar mistakes and for some moments the story it’s a little slow!

Megmuff

Did my 8 year old niece write this?. So many grammatical errors. How does a book even get published in this state? Truly baffled.

Vlmckune

Next Door by Blake Pierce. A fresh well developed store with a fresh twist. Refreshing to read without sexual encounters that leave a distaste is your mouth

Sometimers3

Next Door. Great book. I love that the sisters reunited.

Mnm17

Awesome.. minus typos. I would love to give five stars because I’m totally into these books and have a really hard time putting them down, but.. the typos have me take one star off!

Kathywamsley

Next Door. Very fast moving I really enjoyed reading this book. I also enjoyed the FBI character and her boss! Thanks k.

Jess5720

You have to find out what happens next. I really enjoyed this book. It kept me interested and that’s saying a lot. I get bored easily while reading. I found it difficult to stop reading this book, just telling myself, “one more chapter and then I’ll go to sleep” over and over.

RockyD1026

Engaging Plot. Riveting and engaging! I am giving this book 3 stars because of the numerous typos I found.

Sdfrdeghfrjed

So So. The story was ok. Didn’t quite care for the ending. Doesn’t make me want to read more.

Gramm j.

Great suspense. There were so many twists and turns that I couldn’t guess the outcome. Great read.

Jdt_s

New start to a series about a female detective FBI intern. Good story, interesting protagonist in an intriguing situation. Worth a read for a veteran author of a new series. Will watch for more.

Gpldac

Next Door. Good read ! Well written. Looking forward to more of this author’s work.

Zzrt341

Ok. So many sentences started with “But...” it was distracting. Like the author couldn’t decide ....

Yhf l

Oh Chloey. Up close and personal

Mysbev

Good read. Book was well written with just a few grammatical errors. Story kept me interested and the characters believable.

Seannammck

Just Bland. Nothing about this book had real suspense or mystery. The ending turned out to be so lackluster.

LWProl

Next Door. First time reading this author’s book. Very well written, kept my attention. I will definitely buy his next book about Ms Fine.

CamryMathis

An editor? Any one?. This book wasn’t terrible but it was lackluster to say the least. Most of the criticism I have for it is the seemingly non existent proof reading. Several words were wrong, names even. Did ANYONE read the book before it was published? And that ending? Not for me and I won’t be reading another in this series.

I_SolemnlySwear

Next Door. Couldn't put it down!!

Future Mrs. Cautilli

Good read, but a lot of writing errors. I loved the book and the storyline, it definitely kept me on my toes, but I struggled with the writing errors. Some made the story very complicated to follow because the Author used the wrong names from time to time, at one point a dead guy (don’t want to say the name because it’ll spoil it) was talking to Chloe instead of her fiancé, etc, but if you can get past the writing errors, and improper grammar, then it’s definitely worth the read. I’ll be reading the next book!

Poor,broke,confused

Next door. Good

LeeRiker

Next Door. A fantastic read...

ACarb1214

Halfway through. I have seen so many mistakes in this book and I’m only halfway though it. Was this reviewed by an editor? Grammar and misspelled words are everywhere, and in several instances the author named the wrong character in the sentence. I also have concerns with the validity of the twin being tossed in prison literally one day after the body was found. Not impressed so far...but will try to finish and will rate again after.

JC Troutstream

Proof reading would have been helpful. Story was okay. Writing definitely could have used some improvement and another proof read before publishing. Used the same adjectives several times in single paragraphs which was painful to read through after about five instances of this. Also, some names and places were not correct at time eg. the author wrote at one point “said Martin” after a statement that the character Steven was making to Chloe. Considering the character Martin was dead at this time it should have been a very easy typo for the author catch. None of this stopped me from being glued to the pages and reading it in just two days. Wouldn’t recommend for someone else to read it but am not disappointed that I spent my time on it.

Relsil

Mystery. Interesting story

Spud902

A neighbours lie. Gripping, twisty and suspenseful

Fernweh_

Good book. Great book, hard to put down. But turned off by the shameless marketing of the second book after every chapter. I almost deleted the book a few times just for how pushy it became. Needless to say the book was awesome but I won’t be downloading the next due to this.

Hana12300

Suspense. Great book hard to put down and well written.

Ljb17.1

Good read but needs better editing. Have noticed a number of errors, that take away from the fact that the book is a good read.

Bridgec94

Could not put down. This book I could not put down. Each chapter left you wanting more. There are a few spelling mistakes in the book, but would recommend reading this book. I even shed a tear.

Mikyla xo

Weirdly, couldn’t get past the first few pages.. Forgive me if there’s a point to it, but the first few pages just seemed to emphasise strangely enough that the “cop” was fat and black. Couldn’t keep reading the words “the fat cop” over and over. Wasn’t really sure if that was even relevant, or THAT relevant.

Taraani.D

Tardea08. Great read, different to what appeared to what my thoughts were.

Kirstynshmirstyn

Would recimmend. Great read the story didn’t go the way I expected and was interesting to read. Lots of spelling and grammar errors though

Zontoast18

Great read!. Beautifully written! No dragging moments. Heartfelt, suspense, thrill and sorrow. Perfect quick read, really enjoyed this book!

Cazzdw

Addictive!. Blake Pierce is my new addiction. I just can’t get enough of his books. Once again he doesn’t disappoint with his new Chloe Fine series. Great character build up that makes you love the main protagonists. Perfect stories to evolve to tv series, the action taking place off the pages and into the mind would just jump straight off the screen. Well done Blake on another original series.

Belladaido

Really engrossing. What a wonderful book! Couldn't put it down and devoured it in one sitting! Really look forward to reading more from this author.

Tracey Paton

Another superb book by Blake..... Read it in one sitting and loved this new character. Can’t wait for Book 2. Thank you Blake .....

Teflon16

Gripping new author!. I will definitely be buying more of her books.

Ctcutcutctu

70andgorgeous

Great read. What a well written book and so full of interesting things about the main characters. I would recommend this book.

Tee3009

Couldn’t put it down. This was my first crime and mystery genre book and I absolutely loved it, a real page turned for me!

StaceRoo9192

Page turner. Couldn’t stop reading this kept me wanting to read more to find out what happened! Brilliant read!

Lady with stix

Proofreading gets in the way. Who the hell proofread this book? It’s a good story and well constructed, but the proofreading is abominable and stopped me engaging in the way I normally do. Please sort it out!

J070986

Keeps you hooked. Could not put the book down defenders a page turner

Rubylovesdresses

Good. Really good book. Well written and engaging and investable characters. Every second I was along with Danielle and Chloe in what was happening, as if I was there myself. Total page turner!

168965

Amazing. Haven’t put it down and read it within the day, loved every part!

Hunni3108

Next door. Loved it couldn’t put it down.. Can’t wait to read the next one.

Marmar23568643157

Stop the adverts!.... but fantastic.. This seems to be a good story but at the end of every chapter it asks you to buy the next book. Fair enough when you’re half way or even nearer the end of the book but after EVERY chapter including chapter one. It ruins the flow of the story and would never be done in a paper book. Will try to keep reading but may give up through irritation. Shame as I often buy sequels but am feeling pushed. A good writer doesn’t need tricks to sell books. Update. The adverts did stop and the book is fantastic.... good enough to buy the next one.

BookReview2

Unlike the protagonist, story was not detail-oriented. Overall I appreciated the read. However, I had to go back multiple times in the story because details seemed to be conflicting. Maybe I wasn’t reading carefully enough but I have a lot of questions- Were they twins or sisters? What movie theater plays movies well before lunch? How did Danielle get home to her mother’s murder when she was described to be at the park? How do you spell the agent’s name- Green or Greene? For a suspense novel about a detail-oriented FBI Agent in training, I would have expected facts to align better.

MG171586

Suspenseful and well written. I could not stop reading this! Finished in 3 days. I loved how the various lives of the characters came together and added depth to this story. There were some editing errors but the context was so clear that they weren’t too distracting. I will be reading the next book in this series for sure.

Ty-Asia

Amazing. Keep me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. Great writing and great plot and twist! Must read again!

Spaghetti & Meatballs

Slapstickgum

Very good. Couldn’t put it down, kept me captivated and the ending was surprising. Would definitely read the next one!

KSGrubbs

Keeps you up at night. It was a good book. Chloe was soooooo annoying in this one chapter towards the beginning and I wanted to stop reading but doesn’t that make a good book? I love how the book ended differently than I expected would def recommend. I stayed up til 2 and 3 in the morning trying to figure out what was next

Pins4

NEXT DOOR. Good read. I’d recommend it too anyone liking a good mystery.

About Author "Blake Pierce"

Charles Pierce (July 14, 1926 – May 31, 1999) was one of the 20th century's foremost female impersonators, particularly noted for his impersonation of Bette Davis. Life and career Born in Watertown, New York, he began his show business career playing the organ and acting in radio dramas at station WWNY. He branched out into a comedy routine, attired in tuxedo, yet managing to evoke eerily convincing imitations of popular movie actresses. Eschewing the term drag queen, which he hated, he billed himself as a male actress. Initially playing in small gay clubs, his fame spread. He took up residence in San Francisco, where his act became well known to Hollywood stars. As he toured, his costuming became more elaborate, initially adding small props, later full costume and makeup changes. His imitations were imitated by other female impersonators, and his roles included Bette Davis, Mae West, Tallulah Bankhead, Gloria Swanson, Carol Channing, Katharine Hepburn, and Joan Crawford, and these ....
