Intense. Loved this book……. I hope there is a sequel to this! I couldn’t put this book down, devoured book in about 3 days. Great read.

Excellent thriller. Most sequels (and second seasons, depending on the medium) will disappoint loyal fans - this didn’t. It exceeded the original. That alone is worth 5 stars.

Nice continuation. Decent follow up to the original. Neil definitely was the tragic villain.

Brilliant. The character development. The twisting plots. The highs. The lows. The action and adrenaline. This book is unputdownable. What a wild ride. So disappointed it ended.

Great Dialog and characterization. This book does a great job of taking the characters from the film (Heat) and applying them in written word. The main characters’ s dialogs are so spot on, and it really make this novel shine. I will say that the main antagonist was a little strange in the way he was portrayed, and I thought he was a little too dumbed down for the hero. But all in all, this was an enjoyable read as a Heat fan. Looking forward to seeing if they put this to the screen.

Better than the original. Simply an awesome novel and hopefully will be made into a movie. I’ll be watching Heat again shortly to refresh my memory of the characters.

Page Turner. Couldn’t put it down.

Amazing. Like watching a film instead of tracking words on paper. A stunning dance of present tense writing, a style I normally lose interest in about page two. Not Heat2. Clenched onto my throat from page one, kept me gasping to the very last turn. A great crime novel on par with the best of the great and sorely missed Elmore Leonard. There are no other superlatives that the clichés don’t cover.

Great Read. This is an excellent follow up and expansion of the world of Heat. Admittedly, I was skeptical of a book that was both a prequel and sequel, knowing the latter portions would be without the iconic character, Neil McCauley. However, my skepticism was quickly allayed with a fast paced, entertaining story that spans over a decade, and makes you remember why Heat continues to be a critically acclaimed staple in cinematic circles! I highly recommend this work and the thrill ride it will take you on!

ALMOST FIVE STARS. I enjoy the characters, but sometimes the police tactics seem a little over the top and absurd. It was a little slow earlier on, but halfway through the book it picks up and gets more interesting and exciting.

Excellent. Loved this book. Writing was superb and it was like three books in one.

Exhilarating, adrenaline filled read!. The book reads as a screenplay. Honest to goodness you see the book play out as a movie in your mind. If you’re an avid fan of Mann’s classic film this thrilling, pulse-pounding book is a must own.

Heat 2. thrilling cover to cover.

Al Pacino and Val Kilmer lived in my head the whole time. Heat is one of my favorite movies of all time. Because of that when I found out there was a book that would explore the past and future of the characters of that beloved film I was very excited. The book very much lives up to my expectations and you can almost see Al Pacino, Val Kilmer, Robert De Niro and the rest of the cast acting out the scenes in the book. Michael Mann knows these characters and their mannerisms so completely that they come to life all over again. My only critique is that some portions seemed a little convenient and it’s hard not to wish this was Michael Mann’s latest movie to grace theaters with all the visual splendor you expect from a man so good at his craft. That’s a small criticism for what was overall an excellent novel.

A worthy sequel. Kept me locked in. Multiple story lines across time and location keeps the reader on their toes as the Hanna, McCauley, Sirhelis saga continues to unfurl.

Amazing extension of the original. Smartly written. Fast paced. Fascinating deep dive of characters that we know. It’s half prequel and half sequel, yet it’s all tied up neatly and violently into a bow. There are enough interesting characters to build out a couple regular book series that I would read.

Thrilling-start to finish. A masterpiece by Mann.

Phenomenal. I struggled to put this down. It read like a movie script, which I loved. You could see the characters as they looked in the movie. It’ll be hard to make the movie and addicting as this book, but I’ll be seeing it no matter what.
