Tattooists. Great book, had my attention the entire book. I couldn’t put it down!!

Tried to enjoy it. Sorry, it just reads like spark notes or something. Every chance for something interesting cuts short to a sentence of “then x was happening for y days”.

A book you want to read the second time. This was such an amazing book and I quickly read through it. It’s a true one story and one about surviving the camps and what Lale did to remain alive. I would recommend this book to anybody and everybody!

Accounts of the Holocaust are always desperately difficult to read but this story shared the will to survive through a beautiful love story of two desperate survivors sharing their accounts of surviving the death camp of Auschwitz. Tatoist of auschwitz. As i sit in quarantine & read Lale & Gita”s story, i have experienced sorrow, inspiration, & joy. The horror & loss of so many innocent lives during the holocaust is something the world should never forget. Thank you for telling their story- i will remember. The inspiration that they survived such horror & were able to love & build a life... may it give others who are struggling hope for tomorrow. May we each be a vessel to help those around us in need in any small or great measure we can within our ability at the moment. Lale”s heart to help others is an example to follow. Heartbreaking.. This book was well written, but the subject matter is hard to get through. The systematic erasing of a culture is unfathomable to me.

Poorly Written and Unfinished. The true story of this couple deserved so much more than it got with this novel. It somehow took a true story of love and survival in one of the darkest times in recent history and turned it into a teen romances novel. I was left with sadness when I finished the book, not from the book itself, but for the story that could have been told. I am truly bewildered that this has good reviews.

Astounding. Amazing book that places you in the middle of a forbidden relationship. heartbreaking, but an amazing, cant-put-down read.

Overly romanticized. In the beginning of the book I was intrigued but as the story went I felt as if i was reading something unfinished. Everything going in the story was down played for the sake of a love story. It just felt very unfinished and rushed towards the end to the happy endingDefinitely better holocaust books out there.

Poorly Written/Factually Flawed. I can tolerate bad writing, but minimizing the experience at Auschwitz and making it seem like it wasn’t that bad in excusable. There’s so much glossing over the actual horrors that took place there in an effort to write a Holocaust romance novel. It’s actually quite offensive.

Great easy read. There are some sad bits to this book as with any book about the holocaust but it is a great read with many light hearted parts. I really enjoyed this novel.

Horrifying, spellbinding.. I’ve read other accounts of the concentration camps, but this was the most compelling. A love story for the ages, interwoven in a time of the worst evil mankind can inflict on other human beings.

Underdeveloped characters and ending. I enjoyed the story and perspective of this book. However, there wasn’t a whole lot of character connection or development throughout the story. The ending was also sped up and ended too quickly.

Sad, but loved it. It is a tough read in places, but hard to put down. A man taken to Aushwitz death camp schemes his way to a ‘secure’ position tattooing numbers on new arrivals. He uses his elevated position to help others around him. In the terribleness of what is happening in the camp he falls in love. Very well written.

Just Wow. Easily one of the best holocaust survival stories I think I’ve ever read finished it in 2 days I couldn’t put it down Lale and Gita’s journey of survival is just amazing bravo to the author a must read if you are looking for a holocaust story

Compelling. The feelings and thoughts expressed by the character, Lale, in the face of unbelievable choices and horrendous circumstances grabbed me right at the beginning. There are many Holocaust stories and books. This one is a top of my list, must read for the realism of one person’s journey through that horror.

Touching Story. We all have heard of the horrors those experienced during WW2 and the concentration camps. This tells about Lale Sokolov’s story of finding love and surviving the horrors at Auschwitz. Very good book.

AMAZING!!!!. This book was incredible! I have been addicted to it for the past few weeks. It takes me to a completely different and horrifying world, I felt like I was in Lale’s shoes and I was really there experiencing what he did, it was scary. This book is told incredibly well and it is a book a will put on my favorites list and recommend to others. I like reading books about the holocaust, it helps me to reflect on humanity. A true love story. I could not put this book down! After three days of reading start to finish I learned that love can over come some of life’s most difficult obstacles. I also learned a little more about what life was like during that time which made me cry for the pain they suffered. But made me feel joy as well when they were happy! I highly recommend this book to anyone.

Compelling tragic and incredible. I wasn’t sure what to expect, only that everyone raves about this book. I found myself unable to put it down. From start to finish heather really captures the heart and soul of that period in history covered in so much despair and heartache.

Tattooist of Auschwitz. I found this book to be an average read only. Everything about the plight of prisoners in Germany’s concentration camps is horrifying. We knew that. But this writer recounts his time dispassionately. Almost clinically. It’s not that I am without sympathy. But it just wasn’t a compelling suspenseful read.

Incredible Story, Poor Writing. I was fascinated by Lale’s story but the writing left much to be desired. Not enough emotion for such a serious topic.

Compelling, inspiring, heartbreaking story; simply written. THE TATTOOIST OF AUSCHWITZ is based on a compelling, inspiring, and hearbreaking true story of Lale Sokolov and his years in a concentration camp tattooing numbers on the arms of fellow Jews. It's a love story; a tale of the strength of human spirit and ability to survive that reprehensible, inhumane environment with one's heart in tact. While the story drew me in, I found the writing style simplistic; I would have liked the book better with character detail and descriptions I could sink into.

An Extraordinary Story in Extraordinary Times. I poured over this novel in the course of several days. Having read many books on the subject of The Holocaust and concentration camps, I found the tale of Lale and Gita to be a compelling love story. At times, the events seem to be hard to fathom especially Lale’s bartering for gems, food, and the many fortunate situations that preserved his life. A cat with nine lives, indeed. The screenplay and subsequent book by Heather Morris was a somewhat fictionalized account of an extraordinarily dark time in history. She brought light, love, and humanity to it. Worth the read.

Great book. This book was greatly written for such a sensitive time in history. It is truly amazing to see what a human can endure through years of terrible experiences. I could not even imagine living in a time where I fear death day by day. What drew me to this book is Lale’s story and his determination to stay alive since the beginning. When he met Gita and fell in love with her that was something he fought harder for to stay alive. It is truly amazing the places where you can fall in love. This book is a must read!!

A Must Read!. I sat down and read this book in 4 hrs. I could not put it down. I have read many books and materials on WWII this one by far is one of my favorites. As sad and horrific as the story was it brought to light all very serious time period. It had me yelling “No, no, no!!!” and balling like a baby. Reviewing the depths of humanities failures and darkness took me on a emotional roller coaster. I can’t even begin to imagine the turmoil this must have caused for this couple but to say no matter what I’m surviving and I will love you! Shows how much we can be resilient in the face of evil.

With hope you live. This book is an excellent account of the perils of the Holocaust. It is well written and very sad but interesting. It is unbelievable what a human being can endure.

Incredible. At times difficult to read, but an amazing key about love, the will to survive, and finding light in such darkness. An incredible story.

Not worth the expense!. I found this a novel of fiction. I am not a historian but have read numerous accounts of the concentration camps. Lale made it seem easy to get food and gems and hide them away to share with his starving inmates. These unfortunate people were starved and worked mercilessly. They were shot and killed for the smallest infraction. He had so many gems that he shared one with an SS guard! Come on. The SS guards were terrifying to the people. They had total control and lacked sympathy or empathy. This novel trivialized what these millions of people suffered in the camps and not just Auschwitz but the thousands of camps in Germany and Poland. Terrible unlikely story of a heartbreaking time in the history of the world.

5 Stars. This amazing book shared many details that i didn’t know about Auschwitz concentration camp. It was a miracle that Lale and Gita were able to communicate there and find each other after the war. Lale’s tenacity and street smarts helped many survive one of the worst camps in history. His honesty about his faith being shaken was sad but understandable. Gita’s deep faith kept her and many alive. But it was Lale’s unselfish love for his cellmates, the gypsies and children in the camp that kept him going. He was a hero on many levels and his acts of kindness ignited the human spirit around him. Disturbing but beautiful love story that validates good over evil in the end! 😊

Wow, what a great book about a horrible time in history. This book was incredible. The author’s writing style is easy to follow and I plan on looking into other work she’s done. Lale’s (the tattooist) story is one everyone should know. I highly recommend reading this book!

This is a MUST READ!. As soon as I finished the last page, I wanted to reread it all over again! I didn’t want it to be over! Heather Morris does an amazing job of telling Lale’s incredibly true story. She bring his story to life for us younger generation to connect to history.
