When Lila Moore inherits her grandfather's house, she finds herself in a small Midwestern town where margarine is never an acceptable substitution for butter, a coveted family recipe can serve as currency, and the friend who will take your darkest secrets to the grave will still never give you the secret to her prize-winning begonias.

Lila is charmed by the people of Auburn, from the blue-eyed lawyer with the southern drawl to the little old lady who unceasingly tries to set Lila up with her grandson. But when strange things begin to happen, Lila realizes some of her new friends are guarding a secret like its a precious family heirloom. It's a dangerous secret, and it has come back to haunt them. Lila is caught in the middle, and her life may depend on uncovering it. But even if she can, can she stay in Auburn when not everyone is what they seem, and even the house wants her gone?

The obituary society. Too descriptive of every little detail. This 600+ page book could have been executed just as well with 300 pages. With so much description the story gets lost and it becomes difficult to distinguish between the characters’ dream sequences and reality. PigSnout

Wonderful!!. This book was just great! I enjoyed the characters, the plot…everything!! Don’t pass this one up!!

Professor222

The OBituary SOciety. This was so good I had to go back and read it out loud! I know Arkansas, so I think I got the dialect pretty close. Really fun read!

Kindal8

Twisty love story with a bare hint of horror. Wonderful characters with depth that draw you in. Great writing, holds your interest to the last page.

I Loved It!. This is a great book! You really can’t tell a book by its cover. By the cover I would have not read it. It was the title that got me. The story is simple but it has great parts that turn eerie. It has its surprises but the flow makes it easy to follow. It does become a page turner toward the end. I’m glad there are more books in the series!

Kkbanks

Wow!. Great book. I just couldn’t put it down, so many twists and turns. Bravo!

Kerlinjo

The Obituary Society. Terrific! I loved this book. It's very well written, the characters are very well developed and described so that I feel as if I know them. It leaves just enough mystery to make me want more but not so much that I'm frustrated. I look forward to reading the other books.

Woodland3

Spooky & mysterious. I just had to keep reading this book to find out what was going on! Loved the mystery as to whether there was a supernatural force happening, versus something else. Very entertaining.

Kathywamsley

Good Read. Good story, a little convoluted, which adds to its charm! Recommended.

Obituary Society - a must for lovers of good fiction and find out novels!. I typically read a lot of fiction and don't leave reviews in addition to my star ranking. This book however struck me so I felt compelled to share. Context, I read quite a lot of fiction. I enjoy the big names in the mystery genre as well as the fiction and find out novels of authors such as Baldacci, Hannah, Robb, and the likes. I also frequent the "free" section in iBooks quite a lot and have found some great books but authors I did not know as well there. This may be more the latter and the world may well know Jessica Randall's writing better than I did upon downloading this book however she ranks with the best of both - the greats and the up-comers- through robust character development, great storytelling, an intriguing plot and a satisfying conclusion. I highly recommend and hope to see more of her books very soon myself.

Ten feet

Interesting mystery with amazing characters. Really enjoyed this story with its multiple plot lines. Even with the multiple plots & characters, the stories make sense & I was easily able to follow along. Definitely worth reading!

Fun and interesting. I enjoyed reading this book. The life in a small town, but plenty of interesting characters to keep your interest. Humor and intrigue makes a good combination.

The Obituary Society. I assumed from the title that it was a comedy. It was a very pleasant surprise. Clever plot development and surprises.

Kilr89

The obituary society. I feel like it left me wanting. It didn’t seem finished to me, such as what was in the lake. I really enjoyed the book. The writing was good with descriptions and details.

Slow start but now addicted!. It took a while to love this book but I love it I did. As soon as I finished it I bought the next one in the series and read it all at once. Just finished it and bought and started the third. I love the character’s and the the magical happenings in this strange, mystical and sometimes deadly small town.

Island52

Good read. It was a good read with a few too many unexplained twists & turns as if it couldn’t decide between being a mystery or a horror story

Kvscrs

Completely me

Stuff and Nonsense. Someone needs to go back and tidy up the sentences that have run higgly-piggly all over the place. A result of switching one program or font for another perhaps? Also, the pond drama needs to be tantalizingly salted a bit more throughout the book. It petered out until you wondered why it was mentioned in the beginning in the first place. Then it just pops up like, “We have a plot problem here. Quick! Throw this back in there!”

Ckreadsalot

The Obituary Society. A surprisingly good story that starts out nothing like you would expect yet transforms into mystery and romance, but very unique of itself. This is not one of those cookie cutter mystery books…it is well worth the read!

Rgjaj

Most enjoyable. Loved this book. Appreciated the mix of humour snd suspense as well as the various “characters” which are so typical of a small town. which provided many chuckles, and not forgetting the various twists and turns of the story itself. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
