The bestselling author of The Martian returns with an irresistible new near-future thriller—a heist story set on the moon.

Jasmine Bashara never signed up to be a hero. She just wanted to get rich.

Not crazy, eccentric-billionaire rich, like many of the visitors to her hometown of Artemis, humanity’s first and only lunar colony. Just rich enough to move out of her coffin-sized apartment and eat something better than flavored algae. Rich enough to pay off a debt she’s owed for a long time.

So when a chance at a huge score finally comes her way, Jazz can’t say no. Sure, it requires her to graduate from small-time smuggler to full-on criminal mastermind. And it calls for a particular combination of cunning, technical skills, and large explosions—not to mention sheer brazen swagger. But Jazz has never run into a challenge her intellect can’t handle, and she figures she’s got the ‘swagger’ part down.

The trouble is, engineering the perfect crime is just the start of Jazz’s problems. Because her little heist is about to land her in the middle of a conspiracy for control of Artemis itself.

Trapped between competing forces, pursued by a killer and the law alike, even Jazz has to admit she’s in way over her head. She’ll have to hatch a truly spectacular scheme to have a chance at staying alive and saving her city.

Jazz is no hero, but she is a very good criminal.

That’ll have to do.

Propelled by its heroine’s wisecracking voice, set in a city that’s at once stunningly imagined and intimately familiar, and brimming over with clever problem-solving and heist-y fun, Artemis is another irresistible brew of science, suspense, and humor from #1 bestselling author Andy Weir.

Awesome. I couldn’t put this book down, I loved the characters and the plot grew more and more intense and exciting. It’s scientific but not hard to understand, it’s futuristic but not too far from earth, it’s action packed suspenseful and funny all at the same time. I highly recommend it... I never write reviews but this book blew me away! I am not a bit Sci-Fi fan but this book might have changed that.

Maverz

Great book! Don’t listen to the haters.. This is an excellent book that shows the same depths as the Martian with a fun story about a fictional city on the moon. Reading other reviews it’s funny to see all the wanna be literary critics who can barely write a review trying to discredit this novel. It’s a fun enjoyable novel that incorporates a good amount of science that makes the reader think.

Jelmedia

Artemis. What a major, disappointing follow-up to The Martian. This is a Hollywood movie script masquerading as a novel, and a weak one at that. Silly cat and mouse story laden with way too many unnecessary technical details. Don’t waste your time. Andy Weir can do better.

Senior Interested

Martian is why you’ve heard of Artemis. I really enjoyed the book “The Martian.” I read Artemis with low expectations because Martian is a tough act to follow. Also my hope is that if my expectations are low and the book exceeds them I will enjoy the book more. Unfortunately this book didn’t even meet my lowered expectations. The only reason anyone has heard of this book is because of the success of the Martian. If this had been Mr. Weir’s first book I don’t think anyone would have ever heard of it. The ending especially felt like one of those crappy movies that had to wrap up all the loose ends in a couple minutes cause the studio ran out of money.

Poulin66

Excellent Read. Fun, lite, fast paced - little science thrown in for good measure.

Rilop

Entertaining. Good, yet not even close to "The Martian" level.

Superman no kryptonite

Great. A very fun read. It made me feel like I live on the moon.

Cut wood

I enjoyed it. Good book.

Ford

Light & Fun. If you're a fan of his other books, go into this one with lower expectations in terms of scale but optimism for a good time.

Jwellingtonb

Quick fun and detailed. A great caper told from the instigator’s perspective as a strong resourceful female. Excellent story!

SJAndersonLA

Such a thrilling read!. Huge fan of Andy since the Martian days, and I was worried Artemis wouldn’t live up to its predecessor. Boy, I was so happy to find out my fears were unfounded. While the theme of space is identical to the Martian, the story is fresh and just as thrilling. I highly recommend anyone who became lost in the pages of the Martian to pick up a copy of Artemis!

JuJuBoBo

Pablum. What a let down.

Aaaaaargh-adoooobe

Martian on the Moon. Andy’s writing is snappy and awesome as always. It felt a little similar to The Martian. Whichever one you read first will be preferred. Easily my favourite active sci-fi author

Beachbooks29

Ouch. Really poorly written personality characteristics for the female lead. I bought this book because I loved The Martian. I couldn’t finish this one. The book didn’t have a flow and this author has a much stronger sense of writing with a male lead. His female characters in this book were all written so terribly. Leaving this book unfinished halfway through and I’m going to try and forget it.

Kijool

Greatbook. I love it kinda new for me!

Carrieslizz

Fun world, likable characters, interesting science. Is it as good as the Martian? No. Did I still love it? Yes. I read it in two sittings. Aside from the humor, it is pretty different from The Martian since it’s not about survival but more of a heist story, but like I said it’s still great.

Bbookman

Action, comedy and crime. Just what I needed to get back into reading for pleasure after a break. The main character is perfectly flawed. The story is compelling. And I love “hard” SiFi.

JuJuP_OTB

A little forced. There was an attempt at creating a depth of character in the protagonist but it falls just a smidge short

KB3POA

Good. I enjoyed the book but was surprised by the harsh language.

The Mother Ship

No sophomore slump. Great book, read it inside a week. I love Andy’s characters, so colorful and they have so much personality. As always Mr Weir has a lot of science, great page turning plot and it’s easy to follow if you enjoyed The Martian they you will enjoy this novel.👍

DEC5150

A pressure dome of fun. Very well written. Its as much fun as “The Martian “,hell it is more fun.I know jazz is supposed to be of Arabian decent,I just couldn’t help myself from imagining jen Lawrence from speaking those words.she’d be great in the role for the film!

Boocr

Creative and fun. I love the way his mind works and how he creates. Fun read.

Please write more, Mr. Weir!. “Artemis” by Andy Weir. This is Andy Weir’s 2nd novel which I happily found out I’d missed when I read his 3rd recently. I loved this story as much as the other 2 of his that I have read. A third hit! I love his storytelling! “Artemis” describes a city on the moon and from there is more crime drama or mystery/thriller over science fiction. Andy Weir’s characters are very lovable, even though the main character in this story was not so much at first. She comes around though and I found myself cheering for her success to save everyone. The descriptions of the settings in the story reminded me a lot of Robert Heinlein’s “The Moon is a Harsh Mistress.” Both writers seemed to have similar visions of lunar cities based on the particulars of what humans would need to survive such conditions. I guess there are only a few ways to go to supply breathable air, water, food, and industry in the city to make having it make sense in the first place. Mr. Weir branched out from his science fiction base to ideas on politics and economics. Very interesting and the story was page-turningly exciting. I can’t wait for Andy Weir to write more.

Bam0130

A fun ride but not a lot of depth. Enjoyed it, but nothing like the depth of the Martian or competing lunar titles like Luna.

_KitanA_

Simply awful. While understanding that commercialization window open with the Martian is not infinite, the author should be embarrassed to put out this kind of drivel.

RBNY>NYCFC

Amazing!. I promised myself to read more and this being the first book I’ve read really motivated me to read more. The entire story, the way the characters talked, and the DETAIL! Perfection! Everything about this story had me on edge and excited for the next part. Five stars isnt even enough to rate this book!

Laaaaaaance

Wow. Not good.. I would recommend fans of The Martian to stay away. This is not a good book and feels like it’s written for a movie more than anything.

YoureLateForShotCall

Weird and Horny. Unbelievable story and character making decisions coupled with endless talk of sex and masturbating by the protagonist. Like, way too much to be believable- and it reflects more on who the writer is rather than the character or reader. I really like The Martian and Project: Hail Mary, but this book is just terrible.

C go thcfgg

Awesome. Awesome had me on the edge of my seat

Addi~

Flawed but enjoyable. Stronger writing than Weir’s first outing in The Martian, with impeccable speculative science fiction. But he’s still an enthusiast more than a novelist, and this book should be regarded primarily as a (worthwhile, excellent) piece of well structured science communication for anyone interested in the practical nuts & bolts realities of lunar colonies. Did you ever wish 2001: A Space Odyssey had spent even more time on worldbuilding its depiction of routinized space station hotels and livable gravity centrifuges? This is the book for you. The story is a lovely swashbuckling heist, with the expected Weirian knack for making airlocks-and-EVA-suits life or death drama compelling. But as with Martian, some—albeit fewer—character moments will make you wince. Don’t expect to have your breath taken away by soaring dialogue, nor your heart moved by genuine human moments evocatively rendered. The story is a vehicle for the aspects of the spec-fictional lunar colony Andy wanted to explore, and it does that ably. But he’s no Bradbury or Huxley—the human element such as it is very much serves the mechanics of the (inventive, elaborate, worthy) worldbuilding exercise, rather than the other way ‘round.

Tryko

This is a great one!. I thoroughly enjoy everything about this book!!!!! Rich plot line and engrossing story- didn’t want to see it end

Mitch007

Just okay. Unrelatable characters, predictable plot, forced science, and an even more forced romance tossed in as an afterthought! She’s smart because she just is! She gets the guy because she just does! The worst part for me, though, was the completely unrelated chain of emails, spread throughout the book, that could not possibly qualify as a sub-plot yet ended up having almost nothing to do with the main story either. The best thing I can say about this book is I finished it.

Bezzina96

Amazing. Long story short, I was trying to fix my sleeping schedule n decided to read this throughout the night. Ended up reading like 1/2 or 2/3 of it in one go. And it was so goddam good. Jazz is one of my favorite characters period. And the word of Artemis is so thorough and thought out that it comes to life. I enjoyed all the characters in it, even the “bad” characters. Loved all the references too (even though some I didn’t get). Really good humor and very interesting story. Highly recommended.

Not happy 1769

Great read. This book was extremely entertaining!! A fantastic read that you just don't want to put down. Great follow up to "The Martian"

RussianHotCakes

Ugh.... This book is just awful.

Lauren Books

Boring. Nothing special about this story or the characters

Bunny_the_puppy

Good book! Highly recommend!. This book is very fascinating and I don’t want to give away spoilers so I won’t give any details but I’ll just say that Jazz is a very eye-catching character along with the other characters in this story. No problems at all. I read it in 3 days-that’s how good it was. I very much recommend that you get Artemis.

Seapartz

A good book. I really couldn’t stop reading this book. I was the same way with The Martian. I like Andy Weir’s stories. I will recommend to my like minded friends.

AAA. A great read.

SMS1961

Loved it!. I actually wasn’t expecting it to be as engrossing as it was but I laughed out loud several times and couldn’t put it down. Keep em coming Andy!

Caerta

Good quick read. I found this book quite enjoyable, great read and moves fast... missed plenty of bus stops while reading it.

Semco

Not bad. The first one was better, the Apollo 13 of mars. This one had its moments, but since the trials to overcome were mixed with technical and personal ones, it didn’t flow as smoothly. It wanted to be the Maltese falcon on the moon but kept getting distracted by technical problems the lead character faced.

Kelthan

A fun and interesting read. This book was more lighthearted, but no less science-based than “The Martian.”

BIG Redskin fan

Artemis is a great read. Could not put it down. It’s a great read.

Hgvbffbfgbfgbdtgbtgbthnhdt

Another solid read…. Similar to The Martian, well-written, entertaining, and humorous. Weir does a great job of breaking physics and chemistry down for the lay person.

AggieHARK

Enjoyable read. I was a big fan of The Martian. I started Artemis and couldn’t put it down. I really enjoyed the story and the characters involved. I almost want a sequel to check in on the characters. Can wait for the next book from Andy Weir.

KeroseneMainframe

Good Book with Some General Flaws. This book has the same feel of The Martian, but seems to go past Andy Weir’s original novel by incorporating more detail in Artemis. This book is great, and for the $3 I got it at I can definitely say it’s worth it. Aside from price, there are a few general flaws with Weir’s writing. In instances it sounds overwhelmingly emotional, with heavy action scenes a good chunk of it too. If these two principles were balanced throughout the book I would think there was nothing else to say. This is a great book, and is by far worth the price.

TigersJC86

I loathed this book. I only read this book for the 372 pages we’ll never get back and it was a chore. First of all, the main character has not a likable trait about her. Seriously, I didn’t at any point root for this character and that’s a problem since the entire story is from her point of view. The story feels like something the writer came up with when he was 15 about his 13 year old sister. That’s the maturity level we are talking here. The jokes are plain stupid, the sarcasm which never ends was old after the 2nd chapter and I might never read another Andy Weir novel again

John_dougherty

Best Author, exciting story. Andy Weir has quickly become my favorite author. His ability to capture a characters struggles, thoughts and realism keeps you reading because it feels genuinely real. His stories are always exciting and never disappoint. I am so impressed by the level of planning and details that he manages to include in all his stories. Can’t wait to read more by him.

Z-griggs

Loved it. If you loved The Martian then you can expect this to be a hit. The level of technical detail in his writing is what brings me back. And what’s not to love about a story based in a futuristic moon colony?

Great book!. If you liked The Martian, you’ll like this book too. Yeah it’s hard to get into at the beginning but isn’t that every book. With great character development and a killer plot line with surprising twists, this book is amazing!!

Supersonicclank

Great. Original and fun to read.

Charles Edward Cheese

Deece. Not as good as The Martian, but hits the spot if you’re into science/space stuff. Tough writing a story with a female protagonist as a dude - a bit of a tough sell at times - but hats off to Weir for taking on a worthy challenge. This could have read like The Martian 2, but it was totally it’s own thing - thanks for not trying to sell me on your sequel Andy, and thanks for not forcing me to imagine Matt Damon as the main character.

Frenchy2013

Artemis. Great read, could not put it down

Jms2005

It’s not as interesting as the Martian. It’s not as interesting as the Martian

Loved it!. Great story with real science. Gotta love it. More Jazz please!

DOOMShooter

Great!. A thoroughly great book. The characters are flushed out, funny, and down to earth (ummm). I hope Andy decides to write more books like this and the Martian. He really has a talent of combining complex situations and material and making them easy to digest. I highly recommend both his books.

Jssolin

A Good Attempt. An enjoyable read, but far from the Martian. I hope the author keeps trying, so I can keep reading.

Jon Bek.

Meh.... Screenplay masquerading as a novel.

Sapperj7

Fantastic read!. Andy Weir proves with this book that “The Martian” was no fluke!! I love how he created this character who was flawed, hilarious and relatable. I had so much fun reading “Artemis”. I loved this book!!

Jaywmitchell

Boring. Pure drivel, predictable, boring with an unlikeable main character. Massive amounts of details do not make great stories.

Jenniferstribling

Should have left it at The Martian. Stupid plot, politically correct but implausible characters. I can think of dozens of reasons why this book doesn’t keep up with even basic technology abilities from 2017, and I am a liberal arts major. Save your money. Andy, your science is okay but your plotting and character development is awful.

RLRosas

Good. It got better towards the end. Very scientific and worked very well. Characters were very well developed.

Idevourcows

Young adult sci-if?. Mildly entertaining with juvenile writing. Could have used heavy editing.

Weathernut88

Great!. But it will never be as great as the Martian

Blsxxx

Artemis. I thought the dialogue was not right for a woman. The storyline was not engaging. I would not recommend this book

Nonnull

Fantastic read. Loved it.

Bay-ish

Forward, concise. Fast paced, high dialogue, and technical jargon that was a bit hard to visualize (pushing button, switches, gears, etc.). Enjoyable read overall; satisfying ending TY, Mr. Weir

Tavara

Boring. Not a great read. Didn’t do much for me.

Pamdanz

Artimus. Wow! It’s been along time since I’ve read real science fiction. I’ve been reading science fiction since the early 60s and had sort of lost touch with the science part of science-fiction, not speculative, not fantasy... real science fiction! With likable interesting characters too! Keep up the good work. Keep on writing!

Stone crap

Artemis. “The Martian” was a masterpiece. Artemis was a piece of something else

Michael_colvin

A fun read. While not nearly as compelling or irreverent as his first book, Weir has crafted a strong and flawed heroine. A good page turner and lots of snark. Overall a fun read.

Mukul79

A completely different story from “The Martian”. Their similarities have to do with the deep knowledge of how to keep humans alive in the harshness and unforgiving nature that is space. Other than that, the stories have nothing to do with each other. Artemis instantly transports you to the future moon as if you are actually living and working there. I loved the narration as if it’s a woman and took me a while to come to grips with that- but that’s why I love it. It’s unexpected. Highly recommended read!

Satanicpuppy

Okay.. Random underachiever supergenius gets in and out of trouble, destroys the moon, saves the moon, destroys the moon. Saves the moon and evades consequences. Amusing, solid voice, plots weak, character has improbably loyal friends, improbably good luck, and improbably great skills.

NCM-Indiana

Embarrassingly Juvenile. But for a generous serving of four letter words and plenty of sexual references (yet no actual sex!), this book would seem to be aimed at the not very discriminating juvenile reader. Jazz, the protagonist, is supposedly a 26-year-old woman, but instead speaks, thinks and acts as a bratty young teen, meaning way too much, not nearly enough and with endlessly poor judgment. The plot, such as it is, doesn’t stand up to even casual scrutiny. Worse than that, neither does the entire premise of this space-opera resort settlement on the moon, supplied as it is by chemical rockets from earth. There’s a Heinlein-esque flavor to this city-in-space setting, but without any future science to justify it. As in “The Martian,” the author gets critical parts of the science wrong too. The large scale moon base, with a couple of thousand permanent settlers, is dependent on a pure oxygen atmosphere. Has the author not heard of the Apollo 1 disaster of 1967, where a minor electrical fault triggered a catastrophic fire fueled by the capsule’s pure oxygen atmosphere, killing all three astronauts on board and ending the use of pure oxygen for space flight in favor of less dangerous pressurized air? Does he not know that smoking a cigar in pure oxygen, as he would have us believe one character does, would be like putting a lit firework between your lips? About as dangerous as welding metals in the dome, something else that plays a prominent part in this story. Finishing this book was a chore. Save yourself the trouble and don’t start it.

Falafahsofa

Not bad. Not bad for what it was but I was hoping for more after The Martian which was amazing. The characters were decent but the environment wasn’t well realized.

DadChompsSam

It’s a good romp. Andy Weir’s fresh take on this genre is great. His sophomore effort should be applauded for its novelty and unique storytelling style. Nelson DeMille meets your favorite university professor. Keep ‘em coming Andy!

Echografic

Artemis. A good story but quick and short. I enjoyed it.

Orcasfolks

Have been waiting for this!. After reading what turned out to be my favorite book of the last ten years or so,"The Martian", I had high hopes for a second book from Andy Weir. Martian had me laughing all the way through and I loved all the science. I recommended it to every reader I know. So I pre ordered the new book and dove into "Artemis" as soon as it was released on my IPad. I started laughing on the second page and was in for the whole ride. It is quick paced like the Martian was. And I was there on the moon right along side of Jazz, just like I was on Mars with Mark Watney. I dearly hope Andy Weir will keep writing. In this crazy Trump World I need all the laughs and great stories I can get.

Scientist1

Good book, not great. I liked the book but hated the ending.

Amigo73

A good read on a winters day.. Enjoyable reading. A tad intentionally confusing about the main characters age at the beginning but it got sorted out. Not sure it was necessary. Overall it was entertaining.

Gnarm

A problem-solving heist film!. Excellent. With 'The Martian', Andy Weir brought around the neat sub-genre of critical thinking/tech/problem-solving combined with science fiction survival. With 'Artemis' Weir has brought to bear the same tech problem-solving background engine to power a heist film genre story set on the Moon. It is refreshingly different angle to have a scoundrel for the main character (though not or everyone, after the very likable Mark Whately). I think I finished reading it in a couple of days. 'Marian' had the occasional disaster/crisis to punch up the action; 'Artemis', while a little slow at the beginning, picks up to pulling you along like an action film. I think Andy Weir hit the mark with 'Artemis' that Ernie Cline didn't quite make work with 'Armada' - a (non-)sequel that used best elements of the first novel (problem-solving, set on another moon/planet) and fitting them wonderfully into a new setting (Moon colony/city) and new story genre (heist film, fiasco) to come up with a surprisingly unexpected and fresh story. I feel 'Artemis' is as good as 'The Martian', which was a high mark for Weir to hit. Whether you like both equally is mostly up to taste. 'The Martian' is slower-paced, more thoughtful, with instantly likable characters, while Weir's new 'Artemis' is the fast-paced action film but more morally questionable main characters.

Targetmarket

Say goodbye to your friends for a day or two. You won’t put this book or iPhone or iPad down till you finish. The heck with the rest of your earth-bound world. I spent a portion of each page imagining seeing it on the big screen. Who will play whom? This will be even bigger than ‘The Martian’. I can’t hail Andy’s creativity any higher. His narrative style is unique but the innovation he brings to the story is overwhelmingly compelling. Download and begin! You can thank me later.
