From subway to Broadway to happily ever after. Modern love in all its thrill, hilarity, and uncertainty has never been so compulsively readable as in New York Times bestselling author Christina Lauren’s Roomies.

Marriages of convenience are so...inconvenient.

For months Holland Bakker has invented excuses to descend into the subway station near her apartment, drawn to the captivating music performed by her street musician crush. Lacking the nerve to actually talk to the gorgeous stranger, fate steps in one night in the form of a drunken attacker. Calvin Mcloughlin rescues her, but quickly disappears when the police start asking questions.

Using the only resource she has to pay the brilliant musician back, Holland gets Calvin an audition with her uncle, Broadway’s hottest musical director. When the tryout goes better than even Holland could have imagined, Calvin is set for a great entry into Broadway—until his reason for disappearing earlier becomes clear: he’s in the country illegally, his student visa having expired years ago.

Seeing that her uncle needs Calvin as much as Calvin needs him, a wild idea takes hold of her. Impulsively, she marries the Irishman, her infatuation a secret only to him. As their relationship evolves and Calvin becomes the darling of Broadway—in the middle of the theatrics and the acting-not-acting—will Holland and Calvin to realize that they both stopped pretending a long time ago?

Loved it!. I put off reading roomies for a while. I have such high expectations of CLo and was so-so with dyhy, but this was great!! Sweet, funny, sexy and romantic. The characters are really well developed and lovable. The dialog is real and sharp and, at times, lol funny. A general smiley glow occurs while reading. Enjoy it!

Roomies is an Entertaining Read. I enjoyed Roomies, but it wasn't my favorite Christina Lauren book. It was a good concept with likable main characters. I liked both Calvin and Holland, even though they didn't always make the wisest decisions. They're a cute couple who have a lot of obstacles in their path. They have similar mindsets and personalities and that makes them work as a couple. I think they're a good fit for one another. I was a bit thrown off by a few things including the ending. It seemed like so much was thrown at us within the last 30 pages, but then it ended so abruptly. I was unfortunately left with many unanswered questions, which is sad seeing as I liked the book and characters. I would have at least liked an epilogue to tell me where they were a little bit down the line. Other than that I enjoyed the book and thought it was well written, especially the music and legal details.

Seriously right now come on

Not my favorite by them but still good. Started off slow and I almost gave up, but once the main characters (Holland and Calvin) started interacting it flowed and made me laugh hard in a few places. I always love these two authors together.

Outstanding!. Roomies is a light, laugh-out-loud, witty, romantic story. I loved it. Holland was infatuated with an Irish musician, Calvin McCloughlin. She knew that what started out as an innocent crush was becoming an unhealthy obsession. Holland went out of her way daily, just to see Calvin. She knew that what she was doing, wasn’t considered insane, but it wasn’t exactly balanced behavior either. Holland was an adult woman with a masters degree, not a teenage girl, for goodness sakes. She so, needed, to get a life. Calvin McCloughlin witnessed Holland being pushed onto the subway tracks. He called 911 but stayed out of sight. He watched Holland’s rescue from afar. As much as Calvin wanted to help capture the abusive, drunk who pushed Holland, he couldn’t risk talking to the police. Calvin’s been living in the United States illegally, since his student visa ran out, four years ago. Never in his wildest dreams, did Calvin ever think that the girl he left laying on the tracks, would one day, offer to make his dreams come true. How difficult could a marriage of convenience be? Holland and Calvin weighed the pros and cons of their prospective agreement. The positive benefits for Calvin far outweighed any problems that their arrangement might cause him. He was astounded, though, that Holland was not only willing to help him reach his goal but to marry him as well. What Holland and Calvin didn’t think about, however, was how all of the little lies, which they told one another, while strangers, would take on a whole new meaning as a married couple. Their mutual marriage agreement wasn’t half as easy or convenient as they once thought it would be. Roomies is a superbly crafted, captivating, and humorous read. I loved the witty dialogue and the well-developed, quirky characters. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. It’s entertainment at its best. Thank you, Gallery Books and NetGalley, for my advanced review copy.

Love. I haven’t read a single CLo book that I didn’t like! This was no different. The scenarios might not be the same but the feelings are definitely relatable!

They just know how to write. It’s seriously devine writing that just plays out perfectly in paragraphs that form a perfect play in my head. They’ve ruined me for other writers! Everything else just seems like 4th grade level work to me. Great job ladies!! No pressure but keep them coming.

Love!. I really loved this book through and through!

Wanted more. I loved this story, but was a little frustrated that so many loose ends are tied up so quickly in just a single chapter at the end. I wanted more….I still have so many questions! What about the essay, what happens with her career, do they move to LA, does she tell the rest of her family, what about his family and his sister with cerebral palsy???

I needed more. This book was good… not great. I wanted to love it but I just needed more. It felt almost rushed, like half the story was just skimmed over.

Missrorohick

Great love story. Beautifully written. Very tastefully done.

Roomies. I read a lot of books but only rarely give a five star rating. I don’t think I have enough adjectives to describe it. It was a different story, a story I got lost in, one I didn’t want to put down, one that made me laugh, smile, cry, made me angry, I became anxious, worried it would not end well, but still hopeful that it would. This is my first time reading these authors and I am going back for more. It was long and lovely, a complete story, still, I hated saying goodbye to Holland and Calvin. I bet you will too.

Enchanting. I loved this enchanting, funny, feel good story. The characters are endearing, unforgettable, have great dynamics between the them and I was immediately transported into their lives. Calvin and Holland have a chance meeting and it changes their lives. Calvin is a gifted musician from Ireland and his green card has expired. From the moment Holland hears Calvin play his guitar, she is blown away with his musical talent and she also develops a huge crush on him. Holland tries to help Calvin out by marrying him, so he can stay in the county and finally achieve his dreams. I really liked Calvin. He is a nice guy with a sexy Irish accent and although he is a highly talented classical guitarist, he is not pretentious. He is charming, affectionate, honest and once he meets Holland, he never looks at another woman. Calvin finds himself unable to resist Holland’s sweetness and fun personality. Holland has a hard time believing Calvin has feelings for her. While Calvin is talented and has always known what he wants, things are not as clear for Holland. She is smart, has her MBA and would like to write, but she has no ideas and can’t seem to get started. She is frustrated with herself and feels like a loser at twenty five. Holland is too hard on herself and doesn’t realize her worth. She goes through a lot of changes in this story and learns how to be the person she is meant to be. I liked both Calvin and Holland and felt invested in them. The story is smoothly written and the plot interesting. There are also engaging secondary characters adding to the story. Calvin and Holland have a lot chemistry bouncing between them. Even though they are married and live together, they take things slow as they get get to know each other. Thanks to the author for providing a copy of this book vIa Cocktails and Books and Netgalley. The opinions expressed are my own.

Meh…their love never seemed real. Meh… there were some great points and quotes that really had me thinking…but they had lackluster chemistry. SPOILERS!!!!!! Stop reading if you don’t want to know…last warning…ok. Once they slept together for the first time, they lost me. It was so unromantic and depressing and all the “real” love scenes after seemed cheap. There was chemistry on some pages, but how they finally came together as a real couple seemed pathetic. Both were too immature to handle a relationship…let alone a marriage. And they not grew from their immaturity. They kept making silly mistakes and saying and doing the wrong thing. Them having blackout drunk sex ruined the entire story for me—it could have been redeemed, but the authors dropped the ball on this one. Great idea, but the 2nd half of the book didn’t do it for me at all.

Worth it. Slow start but worth the read

4.5 Stars!. This is one of those stories that just pulls you in more and more the further you read. It got to the point that I didn't want to put the book down to leave for work and I was anxious to pick it back up as soon as I could. It did start out a bit slow. Also, Holland was a pretty awkward character. It took me a bit to connect to her but once the story got Calvin more involved, the pages just really started to fly by. You get invested in these two pretty quickly. I was expecting this to be more of a humorous story but it really was more emotional. It ended up being an unexpected read for me in a very good way. Filled with laughter and love and so much more. I loved, loved, loved Roomies!! Holland and Calvin had me rooting from the sidelines constantly. This book was funny and sexy and lovey and a roller coaster ride for my emotions. Chapter 24 <— I couldn’t stop laugh crying... just saying.

Wordstodreams

Sweet, charming and wistful fairytale. I usually find contemporary romance to be either too cliche or...just not good. But THIS! Absolute work of art - I sighed, laughed, squealed and laughed again as I read...
