When a modern princess falls in love with her bodyguard, a royal fairy tale turns dangerous.

ONCE UPON A TIME, there was a beautiful princess. Flicka von Hannover lived an enchanted life. She jetted around Europe staging charity events with friends, had married a handsome prince in the most spectacular royal wedding of the 21st century, and should have lived happily ever after.

But then she found the handsome prince in bed with a duchess. And then a coffee shop barista. And then her own goddamn secretary.

Finally, the beautiful princess had had enough of the cheating prince, and she ran away.

The prince didn’t want to let her go. He couldn’t take his throne without her and sent henchmen to take her back to the castle. Her worried royal brother sent people to look for her, too.

The prince threatened her. He said that if the princess contacted her brother or any of her friends for help, he would kill her brother and her brother’s new, pregnant wife.

So the princess ran to the only person she could trust, a man who was frankly not a handsome prince.

Dieter Schwarz had been Flicka’s bodyguard for years. He had protected her from assassins, kidnappers, and high school dates who got too handsy after a few drinks. He was a sharp-witted, sharp-jawed, hard-muscled former Swiss Special Forces operator who had started his own private security firm, Rogue Security, and had no past that he spoke of.

No one knew that he had been her first lover and had broken her heart.

And he’s the only person who can save her.

I loved this story.. Blair does it again! I loved this story. Reviewing books I love is often much more difficult than reviewing books that are just OK; Once Upon A Time is one of those books. I've been reading Blair Babylon's books for about four years but it seems like just yesterday. She writes compelling stories with characters that have complicated lives. I don't just read her books, I become immersed in the world she has created for her characters. Her Billionaires in Disguise (BID) and Rock Stars in Disguise (RSID) series of books are all connected but they are also written so each series can be read as standalone stories. Even if you haven't read any of the other series (but I implore you to read them!) you will still be able to enjoy Flicka's series because of the background information that Blair puts in the story. And the thing about that background information is that it's written in such a way that it doesn't seem redundant if you are a fan and have read all of the other books, like I have. Because I'm a reader who generally hates cliffhangers, I feel I must disclose that this is the first in what will be a series of 3 or 4 books, and you will definitely be left wanting more after reading it. But there's something other than the wonderful writing that keeps me reading Blair's books – even with cliffhangers – she has never yet failed to complete a series and she releases the books fairly close together so you aren't kept waiting forever for the next one (book 2 of this series is coming in a month). She also hasn't taken one book and chopped it up into multiple parts just to sell more books. This story has nearly 300 pages and, based on past history, the other books in the series will be just as long, if not longer. It's hard for me talk about this story without giving too much away. Flicka married her prince but things aren't good. They had an agreement but he broke the rules and now she has to get away. Fans have been begging Blair to write Flicka's story and also one for another favorite character who's been around since the first BID story. It was a wonderful shock to find this much beloved character a prominent part of Flicka's story. Flicka is a one-woman dynamo. Her organizational skills are awesome. Yes, she has unlimited help to carry out her wishes, but she is the ultimate organizer. It's just a shame that she isn't able to reorganize her life with the same efficiency. I laughed and I cried while reading this much anticipated story. I can't wait to read the next one. Next month can't come soon enough for me. ***Reviewed for Xtreme-Delusions dot com***

Absolutely love this book. I have patiently waited for Flicka’s story and I was not disappointed. The added icing on the cake was Dieter. Without giving away spoilers, I’ll just say, you have got to read this book. This was a powerful beginning to this new series and I am gladly hitching a ride.

Great Read. Blair Babylon has done it YET AGAIN! This first book in Flicka’s story is an exciting, heartbreaking, and at times funny, can’t put it down read! Her story can stand alone, of course, but for those of us who have read other books in the Billionaires in Disguise series, it’s like seeing old friends again. Flicka and Dieter have known each other since she was 10 and he 21, but we find out much more about their relationship as she prepares to marry Prince Pierre Grimaldi of Monaco. I won’t be telling you more, no spoilers, just get a copy and read! I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy and I have not been compensated in any way.

Jericho's girl

Boring. So boring

Crazy not lazy

Once Upon a Time. Not impressed. It started out extremely slow and progressively got worse.

Isharaine

Wanted to Like it. But it ends on a cliffhanger and the pacing is off. I love stories about royalty and she did a good job with the world building but too many things made me stop. Not going to buy the next books.

MissyRNNC

Not a good read. This story went on forever. The only reason I continued to read the story was because I paid for it.

Winginthehouse

Absolute snooze. Not sure how it got so many five stars reviews...poorly written, not even worth it if it was for free.

Egans03

Too slow, too many characters. This was a difficult story to follow. It was rather slow moving and there were a lot of characters constantly being introduced with not a lot of forward movement with the story line. Paid for the book but wish I hadn’t.

Awful good

Once upon a time. This book was hard to put down! Great love story with suspense along the way. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! Laraine

Once upon A Time. I enjoyed Flickas story. Blair writes such exciting books. All of her characters are jewels; can’t wait for Flickas love to continue. U have purchase all of her books on the characters associated with the Rock Band! Good for you Blair!

Detailed fluff (cotton candy writing). The general idea and plot of the book is good, but most of it felt like fluff. Every tiny detail in the book was described to death; nothing was left to the imagination. I skipped literal pages of descriptions and when they finally got to the part I wanted to read about the book was over. They did better writing the summary than the actual book. I felt like the summary was taken and added to way too much in order to make this book into a series. I won’t be purchasing the second book in fear that I still won’t get to read the plot I was originally intrigued with.

It's Finally Here!. I have been a reader of Blair Babylon's books from the very beginning. Her ability to weave her character's complicated lives in such a believable fashion is amazing. Her series of books are intertwined with each other, yet can be read as standalone without a problem. This is the first series that is a cliffhanger, but as mentioned in other reviews, the next book is scheduled to be released next month (and yes, it is already ordered!). Sexy, with great feeling and passion, the story of Flicka, her Serene Highness Fredericka of Hanover is told. Another can't miss read..... And I can't wait for the next book.

Fun Princess Tale. A little odd and disjointed, but so good!

Another wonderful tale from a great author. I received an ARC of this book because Blair is really my favorite author and the only one that I consistently write reviews for. Oh my, Blair writes her characters SO well, I always take them as my friends and miss them when they are gone. Here, we finally get Flicka AND Dieter's story. The mysterious Dieter. I'm sure somewhere in one of the following books we'll find his secret past, but now we can only wonder. Poor Flicka, so busy organizing things for others while smiling like a princess should, through all the misery. Finding that her new husband has another 'wife' and kids soon after her own wedding, and loving Dieter who married another after he broke up with her. Life certainly can be complicated, especially if you are royalty and must do your duty. Will Flicka and Dieter get together in the next book 'Knight in Shining Armor', or will there be more twists and turns before a happily ever after? I can't wait to find out.

Ick. This crap is exactly like some other crap I read a few months ago. I wouldn't have gone for this in middle school, yet it's being marketed to adults. Ewww

Feeling cheated.. I pre-ordered this book a while ago and have never read this author before. The blurb was interesting to me so I thought I would give it a go. I didn't realise this would be a two parter and that the blurb really had nothing to do with this book but more for the second book still to come. This book was boring to me. I kept waiting for what was mentioned in the blurb to come about but was left reading page after page of boring back story. I almost gave up on this book a 100 pages in and I wish I did. I can't bring myself to purchase the next book. As much as I would like to finish the story (to soothe a need for closure) and actually read what I thought I was getting in this book, I just can't waste anymore of my time on this. Time to move on.

So longgg. I have no idea how this story end as it has way too much details. I couldn’t even get into the story.

Once upon a time. Flicka is a contradiction. A hard working gracious Princess , perhaps appearing very amenable . But she guards her heart for her love and is no walk over .

Too hard to read. It was kinda all over the place

Worst book Ever. I kept on reading the book for I hoped it would get better but NO

A stunning Tale of Friendship, Betrayal, Love & Heartbreak!!. **NO SPOILERS** We've been waiting for Flicka's story ever since we met her big brother Wulf, The Dom of the Devilhouse, & Prince of Hannover She is a Princess of many Countries, Great Britain being one of them, though she is far down the line of succession. This Prinzessin's family line comes through the House of Hannover as does the Queen of England's forefathers. They are related, they are duty bound, they are Royals!!! Flicka is marrying Prince Pierre Grimaldi of Monaco. She's a modern Princess that's 'doing the right thing' for their families, as is her Duty. They love each other & that's enough for her. She's had heart shattering love, she doesn't intend to be broken like that again!! She will carry on her Charity work & to perform Piano as often as possible. Music is in her soul & she needs something to nourish it after all!! Flicka desperately wants to burn her world to the ground. The lifestyle they all bow to disturbs her deeply. But for now she pulls on her shiny suit of armor and bides her time until she can strike the first match & she's certain Pierre feels the same way about it too, they're perfect together!!💖 Things start to go off course for our beautiful Prinzessin. Her spiteful, nasty Father & 'others' may or may not have a hand in events, it's always so hard to tell. All that's certain by the end of this book is Flicka seems to be in shock & running away. She's also not turned to her beloved big brother, Wulf, who raised her from 6yrs old!! Could it be him she's running from or his new Bride perhaps? Or could it be the known murderer amongst them all, that has fear thundering in her heart?? For the long term Blair fans, we are lucky enough to see almost all of our favourite characters & for the newer readers, this book will have you scrambling into Blair's backlist to read their full stories 😉 The diehard fans will be sighing over every sighting of our Book Boyfriends 'Wulf', 'Xan' & of course everyone's favourite Bodyguard, 'Dieter' Be still our pounding hearts 💙 Thankfully book 2 'In Shining Armor' is available for pre-order now & is released on 8th May 2018, I've 1 clicked that baby!!! 🎉 I LOVE this Author's work. I have no idea how she keeps her complex, intricate & intertwined worlds straight throughout each series of books. Thankfully she does and we all reap the staggering benefits in books like this!! A 10 star read 🌟 Debbie, 1970, UK

Great Start to New Series!. This is the much anticipated story of Prinzessin Flicka von Hannover, sister of Wulfram von Hannover from BID:Rae. Flickas story begins in the same time frame as the original series of Rae, where Wulf takes Rae to Flickas wedding. To be honest, in the original series I found Flicka to be quite a spoilt Royal brat, I didn't take to her character initially. We find that there's a completely different side to Prince Pierre Grimaldi and he will surprise most readers and fans of Blair Babylon. I expected there to be twists, it's Blair but I didn't expect my heart to be twisted in knots too! To protect herself, Flicka has to go on the run. Enter a true book boyfriend and most handsome blonde bodyguard Dieter Schwartz. I don't want to give the game away so if you want to find out what the twists and turns are, then you have to go buy the book. I can honestly say though, I;ve never pre-ordered a series so fast in my life!

M#m&m0re

All over the place. Would be a good book if it were better edited. This book leaps all over the place making what should be an excellent story seem disjointed and clunky. If you’ve read Rae and Wulf’s story you can just about keep up. If not, it’s going to be very hard. There is also a lot of repetition, as though it was originally written in instalments?

Jpage307

Another great story can’t wait to see where it leads. I really liked this book and all the books in the Billionaires in Disguise series. I struggle to put them down until I have finished. I love the twists and turns in the story and can’t wait for the next book in the series, only a couple of days to go until the next release. I would recommend this book to anyone.
