#1 WORLDWIDE BESTSELLER • "Dr. Langdon is once again wrapped up in a global-scale event that could have massive ramifications on the world’s religions. As he does in all his novels, Brown[‘s] extensive research on art, architecture, and history informs every page." —Entertainment Weekly

Robert Langdon, Harvard professor of symbology, arrives at the ultramodern Guggenheim Museum Bilbao to attend the unveiling of a discovery that “will change the face of science forever.” The evening’s host is Edmond Kirsch, a forty-year-old billionaire and futurist, and one of Langdon’s first students.

But the meticulously orchestrated evening suddenly erupts into chaos, and Kirsch’s precious discovery teeters on the brink of being lost forever. Facing an imminent threat, Langdon is forced to flee. With him is Ambra Vidal, the elegant museum director who worked with Kirsch. They travel to Barcelona on a perilous quest to locate a cryptic password that will unlock Kirsch’s secret.

Navigating the dark corridors of hidden history and extreme religion, Langdon and Vidal must evade an enemy whose all-knowing power seems to emanate from Spain’s Royal Palace. They uncover clues that ultimately bring them face-to-face with Kirsch’s shocking discovery…and the breathtaking truth that has long eluded us.

Good read. Not the best dan brown but still entertaining. At points it got a little predictable and a little slow, but still overall a good read.

AaRONaSiC

Another book, another adventure. Thank you! I will always love a good book and you’ve always provided me with one. I have many authors that I look forward to reading, your books however, I preorder. Thanks again for a great read, an historical adventure, and the fast paced page turning!

Phil Ess

It’s enjoyable. At the beginning of this book I thought the only way it would be superb is if we learned it was written entirely by AI. Seems like that wasn’t the case. It was fun to lose yourself for a bit in this absurd character. The connections between art, history and politics felt a little square peg round hole, and the final revelation that is tirelessly referenced throughout was a huge letdown. Still a decent distraction with a familiar character.

Hitrosh

boring!. repeated paragraphs over and over and over forever …

Sdfrdeghfrjed

Had to return in 2021. I was upset after reading this book back when it came out, now that it’s 2021, I can totally see the book happening in real life lol

Origins. As ever and even more so, I so loved this book, this author is everything. Origins enveloped me from the beginning. In the middle I knew I had to leave everything else aside and could not put this book down. It never let me down as I completed reading till the end. Now I have much to think about and I need to visit Barcelona and walk the steps and see the sights as brilliantly written by Dan Brown. Linda Connally

Great. Dan Brown has a tendency to have amazing ideas, but formulaic writing. This book though was incredibly interesting and different. I really enjoyed it!

Rakboat1

Excellent!. To date, this is my favorite Dan Brown novel...amazing story telling from the beginning to the end. Awesome!

Jakenor

Origin. Brown captures the truths and myth’s of religion and science in a profound telling that the world could benefit from reading. Well written, accessibility to todays wonders and yesterday’s beliefs.

Twisting. So cool

My new favorite!. Amazballs!!! Soooo many references to research that enhanced reading experience. Can’t wait TJ read it 2nd, 3rd, 4th time!

Couldn’t put it down!. I am a huge fan of Dan Brown’s and this book had me captivated from beginning to end.

Wonderful Book. Once I picked up this book I could hardly put it down. I will recommend this book to all I know.

Same Book, Different Title. This is the eternal Down Brown downfall. He took the formula from one of Crichton’s books and from then on he keeps writing the same book over and over again, just changing a few details... mostly the characters names. If you ever read any of Brown’s books, you unknowingly have read this one.

D2daniela

Most Excellent Story. When reading book after book like I do, the truly great ones really stand out! This is the best book I’ve read since I’ve read Night Train to Lisbon last year!

Mr. Cody Harlow

Mediocre. I loved most of Dan Browns books but this is by far the worst.

L.Val76

The anticipation was killing me!. Dan Brown never fails to deliver. I was excited the whole time and failed to get a good nights rest in the 48hrs it took for me to finish. I couldn’t put it down and I was not disappointed. Who cares if my family was hungry. I was busy! Highly recommended.

Rhett h

Origin. Like all of Dan Brown’s books, it is very enjoyable, entertaining and leaves you with something positive to think about.

Jaybig80

Page turner. Like most of Dan Brown’s books, this one is a page turner. Before you know it, you’ve spent a few hours with the characters he’s masterfully created. Classic Dan at his best.

DSB111

Self indulgent tripe. Do not waste your time.

Stone crap

Origin. Typical Dan Brown, so, should be liked by his fans. A little predictable for me but as always, quite educational.

Wwreynolds47

Couldn’t put it down. Now I really want to revisit Spain to see the sites described in the book that I missed on past visits. The storyline of Origin tends to follow the same pattern as Mr. Brown’s other Langdon books, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. However, I did figure out the conclusion of this book about three quarters of the way through it, but that just motivated me to keep reading to see if I was right. And, as another reviewer already mentioned, I do see how Mr. Brown could write a sequel because he did leave us with a few loose ends, but I won’t mention them for the sake of people who may be reading this review prior to reading the book. Anyway, if he does write a sequel, I will be one of the first in line to purchase it.

Thirsty Whale

Origin. Thought-provoking. A bit too long for the essence. Character development is just okay. Plot has one or two “rational leaps”. Overall I enjoyed it and had no trouble reading it all.

Josey86

Suspense and Philosophy. This book has all the usual suspense, but then at the end it’s amazingly philosophical as well. I spent the entire book desperately wanting to know what the big announcement was, but that was kind of anticlimactic. There was nothing new in the announcement, even for 2017. Winston, as a character, was the most intriguing and brought the philosophical twist. He’s certainly something of an antihero, which certainly adds to the philosophical dimension. This is my favourite Robert Langdon novel yet, but I certainly hope there is another in the works as we speak.

Eddysspin

Another Masterpiece Provoking Thought and Excitement. Dan Brown’s Origin continues his page turning style of weaving scientific and spiritual benchmarks with unconventional plausible possibilities as this story seem less fiction than non-fiction. Time will tell!

Just'in Time!

More droning than the Super Bowl LIII halftime show. Very interesting concept and the actual information pertaining to the reason for the book is most fascinating. But to get to that information you need to spend pages upon pages of endless tangents and droning of insignificant, partially related dribble. I hate discontinuing a book, but I may have to. If I’m in a not-so-good mood, this brings me lower, not higher. This book is the equivalent to reading a recipe from a mother’s online blog. They’ll give you their life story from conception to how they were inspired to make the dish before providing the recipe. If you like that sort of thing, then this is totally you!

Flamidwyfe

Kept me on the edge of my seat!. As per Dan Brown ‘s usually, another great book. The amount of research must be astounding. One of the cathedral, my granddaughter and I visited so we felt part of the story. Keep writing Dan!

Sofifi S

not challenging enough, a bit boring!. somewhat disappointing !

0L1V3R8188

Easy read!. There’s a lot to unpack in a book that delves and intertwines fiction with non-fiction ideas. Origin does it cleverly and entertainingly. Sometimes the imagination for the actual storytelling lacks effort as you see the main effort is put forth in trying to make the notions believable and better yet, comprehensible, which in no doubt is done successfully. Nevertheless, a fun read with a lot of questions lingering afterwards-which to me, it’s how you realize if a novel is successful—by staying with the reader and challenging your own beliefs and understandings.

Jpgolfer

Provocative. This is a deeply provocative novel with far reaching ideas and thoughts. Loved all the references to Spanish history!

1mauiboy

Once Again. Not surprising ....Dan Brown delivers yet another thought provoking thriller ! Bravo Dan !!

SolarisGuru

Why so critical?. I haven’t been able to put this book down. It feels a little slow at times but otherwise it’s a great story. I don’t understand the one star critical reviews of it. Lighten up already.

Fun Book to Read. Excellent read. I love all the places Brown takes you in his novels.

Dane Deasy

A Fun and Enlightening Adventure. I enjoyed reading this novel, though it took me longer than I’d like to admit to finish it. It’s a good adventure for those that appreciate thinking about science, art, and religion. I’d recommend it as an easy, laid-back read for anyone that’s enjoyed Dan Brown’s previous work.

Ja.nichols

Origin. Very exasperating. It took 2/3rds of the book just to get the passcode. It was like reading Robert Jordan in that regard . Overall I am amazed at the answer the book gave in answer to deep questions( where we from and where we are going). I personally am a religionist. So I agree with Professor Langdon’s answer in patterns and codes

Photofeedr

Incredible Intellectual Thriller. Bringing together similar concepts to Ray Kurzweil’s Singularity is Near with a wild adventure - you’ll learn about religious evolution - impact of technology on our world today and what 2050 will look like as we “merge” with tech by that point in time... the first 80% of the book is an incredible adventure looking for the killer of a brilliant mind - great illustration and intelligence went into every scene - I was literally on the edge of my seat the entire time. I read this book entirely on my I iPhone Plus on 2 different cross country flights - most enjoyable choice for sure!!!

Mminu

A Gripping Story until the Reveal. The buildup was intense and gripping but the climax was rather disappointing not unlike a clickbait article. Interestingly, it was very obvious that it was someone of the older generation writing this novel by how he approached technology. Overall, not bad.

Ldm05

Captivating. Great book but I would like to point out that humans did not evolve from chimpanzees and that the TRS-80 did not have a caps lock key.

Sean1isa

60% Through & Tired Of Waiting. What a sad effort by an author I’ve thoroughly enjoyed up til now. This is not an intriguing history/art/symbology filled exciting drama. It’s a painfully slow atheist fueled scream, dragged out for hundreds and hundreds of pages of boring inner monologues, witless dialogue and plain silly characters, inhuman and human. Not remotely close to past storytelling standard.

HMGuiot

Captivating and thrilling. This is not masterpiece in literature, but Brown’s stories are always intriguing, appealing, and fun to read. I enjoyed the recollections of some of my favorite places in Spain (Bilbao and Barcelona). I just finished this one and I am already looking forward to reading Professor Langdon’s next adventure...

KiomarisYarelsie

Love it. I’m from Puerto Rico, I bought this book by the time that hurricane María came to my Island. I swear that this book kept me reading all day and night long. This book literally saved me. I loved it...

MCato E

Origin, a review. From the start, I could not put it down. Riveting and suspenseful. The author described all the key places in such graphic detail, he created a perfect picture in my minds eye. I believe I shall read it once again. Mary Cato-Ewald

A quick and compelling read!. Once I started it, I could not put it down; I finished it in 3 days. 😊

Best of the best. I loved this book as I do of all dan brown’s works. Can’t wait for the next one!

Mncm27

Great concept but slightly predictable. The main concept in the book was very intriguing and extremely believable. A great twist on technology and the future. However, parts of the plot were predictable and made the overall story a bit disappointing. Definitely worth the read though.

Jrcd555

Origin by Dan Brown. Fascinating, riveting, germane, prescient - but surprisingly repetitive, and way too long to the end. Scold the professional editors who should have been tougher. Hope it becomes a movie.

Sandra Dethier

Another fascinating read. I took my time reading this book because i knew from the beginning that it was going to be captivating. It is very modern in many ways and linked to real life and real issues. There is a lot of depth. I will read it again. I highly recommend it.

Irenikins

Page turner. Excellent read, full of action, intrigue, romance and always makes you think. Cannot wait for the next book.....hope I don't have to wait four years!

Letendrec

Not worth its price... or its hype. A predictable storyline, caracters who become caricatures of themselves, a chase between churches with Robert Langdon and a woman, all seen, done, written and read before. I couldn’t put down Angels and Demons, or Da Vinci code. This one was hard to finish. So was Inferno. This type of storyline has perhaps done its time.. I'll pass on the next ones too.

Supersonicclank

Fun. Another great and easy read by Mr. Brown!

Mlvilleneuve21

Origin by Dan Brown. Dan Brown is my favourite author and when I saw this book Origin I was truly excited. I must admit though that I am disappointed by the ending, it lacks originality! On a personal note I also didn’t like the choice of modern art and Spain with all the details describing « modern » architecture. The story within the story with the aging King and the young King and his fiancé was superfluous! But I read the book, it was still a page turner as you want to know what’s happening, and then you get to the end 😶 ... personally I found it lacking. I’m disappointed 😔

Yvesdemontreal

Very well done. Amazing conclusions

Dryland sailor

Origin. Dan Brown has Perhaps the most creative mind in writing on this planet Looking forward to his next book Thank you

Susa Marie

Been here before. Read this book because I love Spain and wanted to relive some of my visits to Madrid area, however story line is too predictable. I wanted to further appreciate the historical locations, but there is no depth here to the characters. I feel like it is a Nancy Drew adventure.

Mischa49

Origin. Very very slow start but the last half of the book was excellent. Would have gotten 5 out of 5 if it was not for such a slow beginning

SJHBergen

Origin by Dan Brown. Dan Brown always exceeds my expectations and did so, spectacularly, in "Origin". I expected to be entertained but did not anticipate how firmly the story would grip me. I could not put it down, and tried to avoid going to sleep without reading just one more chapter. Alas, I was not a match for the combined effects of fatigue and gravity. Brown kept me guessing, trying to work out who the blame should fall upon for each new revelation and there were many. The characters were well developed and easy to relate to. Brown's vivid imagery of the churches, palaces and gardens of Spain, as well as the intriguing snippets of history surrounding them have formed a determination in me to see them for myself. I heartily recommend this novel.

Mungeecake

Never got going for me. Book was alright but nowhere as good as previous work. Don't see this one ever becoming a movie

Elvia M.

Amazing!!!!. Dan Brown never ceases to amaze me!! Such a great book! If your into his previous books you’ll love this one as well!!!

Ultrasg

Fun read. A somewhat formulaic book by Dan Brown. Langdon, a pretty woman to go on an adventure with. Plot twists. Historical and factual information. The detailed reveals of major plot points...but the ending with the King seems unnecessarily added. I don’t want to spoil anything, but it just seemed forced into the story and didn’t flow naturally with everything else that was happening. Third best Langdon book. Angels and Demons #1 and Da Vinci Code #2.

Mr Gaston

Awesome book. Although I could predict the ending of the book it kept me hooked until the last page. All Dan Brown books are thought provoking and are written keeping hot issues in mind. I loved just every bit of it.Look forward to more titles in future.👍

Never disappoints!. All the usual intrigue but a wealth of true info that I had no clue about! But now I am more enlightened!! Loved the book and hope it will be a movie soon!

A Great Read. for anyone who has a high school diploma but failed science class and is still struggling with why creation theory isn’t being taught in public schools. This book won’t answer that question, but you’ll like it.

In Winston we Trust. Great installment in the Robert Langdon series. Loved the setting and the usual twists and turns.

Poosnot

Boring.... Very boring

Fin Gomez

Tedious, Boring, Silly. The best part about this book is that it takes place in Spain. Everything else is absurdist Dan Brown. Not the premise mind you but the actual silly story. Silly silly.

Sean Patzer

Pass, save your money and time. Having enjoyed the DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons, I had high hopes. Rather than reading this book, I would suggest reading Ray Kurzweil.

Jacobbrandon1984

Fantastic book!. As with his other books, this one was amazing.

Tony Palino

Dan Brown Does It Again. Dan Brown captures the readers attention right from the introduction. The ideas and theology he brings to this story is very relevant to the times still finds a way to be one step ahead of the reader the whole time. Religion, death, technology. Well written, I can’t wait for his next book.

Schockyourself

Another classic!. As always with Dan Brown's offerings, I couldn't put it down. Exceptional.

Pendy1590

Origin. Well written with excellent pacing throughout building up to, unfortunately, a lesser peak that expected. I had hoped the climatic reveal would have had a little more to it than the purported singularity. Having said that, I would still rate this book as a must read.

Dfw2828

A major disappointment. Rambling, boring with little to no insightful writing. Brown has jumped the shark.

Greg LeNoir

Origin by Dan Brown. Ultimately disappointing, the story lacked the essential kernel of revelation.

Vol-fan

Ok read. A little long winded.

Geigs.

Eh.... I found this book to be a big disappointment for me. I think Mr. Brown should let the Robert Langdon thing go myself.

Vashta72

Philosophical v Story. The philosophical content is intriguing, if a little hard to follow at times. The earlier part of the book is engaging. Towards the end the story telling felt rushed and not particularly interesting.

Carm0817

Origin. Thank you Dan Brown this book was a masterpiece I read it in 3 days could not put it down. I hope a movie is made it would be excellent. What you have achieved as far as understanding the differences and also similarities between God and Science is uplifting and enlightening.

Sweetyyingtao

Entertaining but less captivating than previous books. I enjoyed reading Origin and following Robert Langdon’s adventures once again, although I didn’t have the same level of interest as Angels and Demons or the Lost Symbol. Langdon’s approach to modern art and evolutionary concepts was interesting but the action is very slow to settle and there are not enough cliffhangers and twists to be captivated. In my opinion, it would have been interesting to add a third party, other than nobility and religion, in the potential suspects.

Trimike07452

Great read. Best Dan Brown novel since the Da Vinci Code

Grammiebud

Never a disappointment. Awesome novel. Awesome story line. Had to keep reading and reading, wondering what was going on, what was happening. It was great all the way to the end, and a surprise ending at that!

Myob2

Origin, 4.5 stars. I love Dan Brown! I love the way his mind works! I love the way he draws you into his imagination and wraps fact with fiction in a world of his own making. If half the teachers of history, science, architecture, etc, had his flare multitudes of young people would be drawn into their studies. I have read all his books and every one has taught me something tangible about the world we live in, from polar ice caps to ancient religions, he makes his reader want to know more. And he makes you love it!

Silatix

mildly uninteresting details based around a familiar plot. I liked the concepts that came about in the end of the book but getting there wasn’t terribly gripping

Origin. Great read! True to the Langdon character mold.

Bellaluna83

He does it again!. This was a wonderful book. I could barely put it down and it felt like an art history course within a book.

Fantagerox! xP

Great book. This is a wonderful read.

Say-Say Jane

Origin. What a complete waste of my time. I would not recommend this book to anyone unless they want to be bored to death. The only thing remotely interesting about it is the description of the many wonders of architecture to be seen in Spain. Other than that, it was a total waste of time. I say this as one who enjoyed his other books.

Rgnskinner

Terrible. I usually love Dan Brown’s books, but this one was terrible. So boring and way to much scientific and technical talk. Hardly a plot at all. Glad it was an audio book so I could tune out for parts of it. And not even miss anything.

Tak4psu

Good read. Thrilling till the end and unravels with a twist.

Stone crap

Origin. Typical Dan Brown, so, should be liked by his fans. A little predictable for me but as always, quite educational.

Les Artisans

Beyond amazing. Every time I think Dan Brown has done his best, he somehow manages to too it off with something even more excellent. This book is amazing. And the plot twist is incredible!

Electrogildo

Big Dan Brown Fan. But I was truly disappointed with Robert Langdon’s recent adventure. Hopefully it’s his last one too. He must be at least 70.

SatyaB

Terrible writing, obvious storyline, wouldn’t recommend. The story and writing were terrible. We don’t need a lecture on what a Tesla is, find better ways to fill pages. Same formula for the stories and very predictable outcomes. Major disappointment

Auggie's Man

Plot 5, writing 1. I was encouraged to read this by a good friend who promised me I could looks past the terrible writing to enjoy the plot and interesting thoughts presented. I did like those things, as I’ve enjoyed in past Brown novels, but this time I put the book down more often with frustration at the writing. So while I’ll thank my friend because her heart was in the right place, and her analysis good, I think this will probably be my last Brown book.

GdCA

Thoughtfully written. ...and, to honor the author’s efforts, should be just as thoughtfully read. And considered.

Tyra Grey

Another great read. Unpredictable and as usual he makes you ask the questions you probably didn’t want to ask yourself.

Vallerie's Itunes

Origins. Could have been a good book, if half the size. Excessive description of architecture, landscape and description. Brown offers very good points for discussion, but they are lost in sea of noise.

A Gotthardt

Awful — basically a propaganda screed against religion. Typical of Dan Brown, but without nearly as much interest factor as some of his earlier works. I read across a broad spectrum and can’t remember the last time I was so disappointed in an author I’ve read before.

Cz3266

Not as good as I hoped. I normally love Dan Brown books, but this one was a bit of disappointment. The story trudges on forever without much to keep you interested.

Other sci-fi guy

Dan Brown for Congress. Politicians are thought to be the most long winded of our species but this author has challenged that claim. He has taken a good idea for a short story and stretched it to the breaking point. There is very little action for the first 20% of the book. The rest of the story is stuck in between bits of rhetoric, explanations, and philosophy. Not until the last 10% does he get to the point of the story. At least the book is set amid the beauty of Gaudi's Barcelona but the little amount of story is somewhat predictable and turns the questions of "Where did we come from? And Where are we going?" Into "Mom, are we there yet?".

Cm punk33

Dan Brown does it again!. I love reading all of Dan Brown’s books. The last one Inferno was good, but probably my least favorite of his books. This one goes right up to the top with Da Vinci Code and The Lost Symbol. I really enjoy the mystery and the unique twist at the end you can always expect from a Dan Brown book.
