An instant New York Times bestseller, The Woman in Cabin 10 is a gripping psychological thriller set at sea from an essential mystery writer in the tradition of Agatha Christie.

In this tightly wound, enthralling story reminiscent of Agatha Christie’s works, Lo Blacklock, a journalist who writes for a travel magazine, has just been given the assignment of a lifetime: a week on a luxury cruise with only a handful of cabins. The sky is clear, the waters calm, and the veneered, select guests jovial as the exclusive cruise ship, the Aurora, begins her voyage in the picturesque North Sea. At first, Lo’s stay is nothing but pleasant: the cabins are plush, the dinner parties are sparkling, and the guests are elegant. But as the week wears on, frigid winds whip the deck, gray skies fall, and Lo witnesses what she can only describe as a dark and terrifying nightmare: a woman being thrown overboard. The problem? All passengers remain accounted for—and so, the ship sails on as if nothing has happened, despite Lo’s desperate attempts to convey that something (or someone) has gone terribly, terribly wrong…

With surprising twists, spine-tingling turns, and a setting that proves as uncomfortably claustrophobic as it is eerily beautiful, Ruth Ware offers up another taut and intense read in The Woman in Cabin 10—one that will leave even the most sure-footed reader restlessly uneasy long after the last page is turned.

Boring. This book bored me so much I gave up reading it half way through. There are many characters but none of them had any depth to them. The writing style was tedious and the plot too unbelievable to be scary.

Manduh193

5 stars. Great book! Couldn’t put it down and very much enjoyed the ending

Dani yellow

Great Book. What a great book! It keep me guessing right until the end. I had so many thoughts on the ending, that I actually had to skip to the end just to be sure I was on track with my investigative skills.

Jlwebst

Don’t waste your time. This book is very repetitive. The main character is always drunk and whining all the time. The ending is very obvious shortly into the book. I wouldn’t waste your time. There are so many other books that are actually worth reading. The only reason I finished this was because I was on a long plane ride and had nothing better to do.

Photomom8404

Audio book was better. Characters got a little foggy for me, but entertaining on a road trip

Edie Dale

Female character not relatable. Sound familiar. With these more recent thrillers like Girl On The Train, female main character drunk, whiney, with other self-defeating behaviors like potty-mouth and that “to cool for school” persona.

RR1153

Couldn’t wait. I couldn’t wait to see how this book ended, I had a pretty good idea about 1/2 of the way in, but along the way I second guessed myself. It was a really good read!

Cabin 10. I found it hard to get thru but also at the same time I couldn't put it down. That must say something sort of positive. Kind of tedious, lots of repeating. But a good page turner. Surprised me up to the very end. Glad I finished it.

Flosbookery

Wow!. I absolutely loved this book. This is the first book I have read of hers and was very pleased with her writing. I really enjoyed the suspense she kept up through the whole book and the reveal was magnificent. She had you thinking one thing then BAM! you’re wrong. I also enjoyed the characters and how she didn’t let everything go as planned.

The woman in cabin 10. Tough to believe this was a top 10 book. I admit it kept me reading to the end, the end is the best part for sure. The main character "Lo" is just a mess, and hard to like, and hard to root for. I found the story full of holes, with a very unbelievable plot, and ending. I would not recommend this book.

Gcasta6

Unbelievable plot twist. I never seen that coming. I never even suspected it or even imagined it a possibility. So much uncertainty and tension. Once I got to chapter 27 I couldn’t put it down finished it that night. MUST READ THRILLER!

MDTeaChick

Brilliant!. I loved this book! I love this author! She is fantastic and will keep you on the edge of your seat! This book is well written and not at all predictable as suggested by other reviewers. I'm not even sure if we read the same book? lol they couldn't have been reading this one, because it IS really that good.

Chels1298746

Meh. It’s nothing spectacular. And there are holes in the story. The storyline is a down-on-herself, alcoholic protagonist with a fuzzy memory that gets her into trouble. It’s a bit cliché.

Stupidstevie

Very pleased. I enjoyed the story being told and how everything was laid out and came together so well at the end. It was a satisfying read.

Bea9028

The woman in cabin 10. The story is so bad and so unreal- no one can survive in freezing waters and endure what the main caractère did in this book! It’s ridiculous and the story is so predictable!

Gagurl2016

Completely mind numbing and awesome read!. I absolutely loved this book! By far one of the best I’ve read this year! I now have a new favorite author to add to my list!!

Ozcrome

Disappointed. I felt let down by this book. The plot was bland and the pace was slow. I can usually devour a good book in a matter of days, especially when I genuinely can’t put it down. For what it’s worth, it took me a month to get through this one and I was glad to be done.

Khlopin

Boring. Boring, slow and typical. Plot went in circles. Waste of time and money. Honestly was insulting to her readers.

Sn0wed

Pretty good. I really enjoyed the language used, and it was an easy read. 4 Stars because I didn’t really fancy the end of it. It ended pretty abruptly. I felt like she focused so much on the beginning and all the descriptions, but wrapped it up so fast. Aside from that small criticism, it was a fast one to fly through when bored at work.

Greyhair65

Tedious read, not enjoyable. The story line is so full of holes it’s unbelievable. The premise of the book, that a neurotic woman on a pleasure cruise hears a passenger go overboard and doesn’t even say man overboard is incredible. Writing is full of useless detail, and very tedious. I started skimming fast less than half way through.

Mjoypick

Couldn't put it down. Great summer read. I could've skipped anything to keep turning the pages!!!

Studybunny12345

🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼. this is by far my favorite ruth ware book i’ve read to date!!!

Electric.amplified

Flew through this book.. Really enjoyed it and has some good twists.

Great Plot, Slow Pace. This is the third book of this writer that I’ve read and just like the other two, this one has a great plot but takes forever to unwind. I can see why reviewers called it boring or long winded. But that’s how all her books read. And just like the other two, I don’t care for the protagonist in this one either. In fact, I think all the protagonists written by this author are whiny, easily offended, self-destructive and always conjure up the image of the stumbling bumbling sobbing heroines in horror movies who trip on flat surfaces and run the wrong way. They always end up prevailing in the end—they kind of have to, I guess—but their thought processes are beyond annoying. And since this is the common thread in all her books, it’s probably just the author’s personality leaking through. Like when she throws in unnecessary political commentary. Which is too bad, because I think she’s excellent at plot. Excellent enough that I’ll continue to read her stuff. But not so excellent that I’ll go out of my way to recommend her books to strangers.

Amelanyc

Doesn’t get good till the end. I read other reviews that said the same thing but I want ahead and bought the book. and, it’s exactly what they said. skip the majority of the book... it’s only good at the end. don’t waste your money.

Notsmiling

Bizarre story. I had no patience for this book and I was dying for it to end. No pun intended.

Sdfrdeghfrjed

Page turn. The ending was a bit predictable, but great story. I just could’ve used a better ending. But I’m always highly critical of endings.

Camila Fischer

Great book. I really enjoyed reading this book! It's very captivating and suspenseful. I was just expecting a different ending for the murderer, this part was not too great, but still a great book that I would recommend.

AlyssaBashford

practical. the story answers all of your questions. but nothing outstanding or truly important to be taken away from the characters or turns.

Nah Shen

Good book. This book was nice to read while I was traveling. It is an easy read and it's ending will surprise you.

Kiarra Monique

Slow start, but great twist!. This book was very good! It started out slow and didn't really pick up until about 75% in, but when it did finally pick up, BOY did it pick up! There was a twist that I didn't see coming and for me, that's what made the book! The MC in rather unreliable and there's also the fact that she's not the most stable person on the planet, but I think both of those those things were intentionally done but the author AND made the story a much more interesting read--even during the slow parts. Other than the pacing, the conclusion of the book wasn't--in my opinion--very satisfactory.

Findaddy16

It’s a good one.. Great read!

Dotty McDot

Addicting!!. This book was AMAZING!!!! I could not put it down, could not read through it fast enough, yet was upset at myself for reading it so fast once I finished it. Ruth Ware writes with a style not often seen. Most mystery books with a female lead character nowadays is always billed as “the next Gone Girl” which is a compliment, but this book is much more than just another copy of a previous bestseller. This novel stands on its own and takes you in and doesn’t let go. Not even once you’ve finished reading the last sentence. I love the way Ruth Ware writes! She has made a fan for life out of me and every book I’ve read of hers after this one has not disappointed. Amazing author and an incredible book!!!

Sazak89

5 stars. Make it a movie. Incredible.

Sherri Rose

Woman in Cabin 10. I am sorry to say I was very disappointed in this book as I found myself questioning why this would ever be published to be honest. As an avid reader of mystery and suspense it simply did not live up to the hype, but I will certainly read another book from this author in the future! Happy reading!! Sherri

SaltWaterSting

Eh. It was contrived and a bit silly. I have liked her other books reasonably well though.

Sgonzales7686

Slow and boring. I don't understand why this book was so "great," as it was slow, tedious to read, and pretty uneventful.

Nienafefalas

Big page turner. Loved every page. Excellent imagery, and a very relatable character. Twists that kept me guessing and an ending that left me satisfied.

Kamsynchro

Really Great. I am usually really good at predicting the ends of stories, but I did not predict this one!!!

OrphanBLK

A Great Read. I was flying on a plane through heavy turbulence and this book kept me so engrossed that I was able to ignore the bad weather! It's a page turner.

Nat-aloi

Disappointing ending. Not too bad, but I was left hanging in the end

LongislandLil

Eh. I don’t get the good reviews that led me to this book. The story had so many unnecessary details and dialogue. The ending felt anti climatic. I was happy when it was over!

Mollyann78

Great read. My first book on I books. Was hooked immediately. Great writing and fast paced story.

Fromrussiamyself

Expected much more. It is an easy entertaining read but I expected so much more after reading raving reviews. There are so many more great books one can read....and I wouldn’t waste time with this one

Hherrig

Good but not that Good & a little Bit Bad but not Horrible. Main character was a whack job, she was annoying but yet relatable. Could have explained more about her past with Ben. The ending seemed rushed therefore it left a ton of holes to try to piece together. I think the author could have spent a few less chapters on whack job Lo & explaining more of the other characters. It was an intriguing read but the ending was so rushed & hurried almost like the author was just sick of writing the book.

AmazingGymnst

GREAT BOOK. Great book! But just a little predictable.

GrumpyAdWife

Good to the last page.... Great read! Took a little bit of time to get into, but the last 100 pages flew by.

Angiestephmh

Slow start but worth the read. It was a slow start for me to get I to it but it was definitely worth the read. I enjoyed how the book was narrated and how the author let us in from an outside perspective after each part.

Pretty998

Mysterious. Mystery; a bit eerie but the plot is engaging and gets you thinking. The writing is detailed and if you like to deep read I think this book is great.

Page Turner!. Great read, well developed characters and plot.

Worst read in a long time.... I don't know how anyone can recommend this book. Was looking for a final summer read and ended up with this dribble. Main character either always drunk or crying...we've come a long way baby....or NOT!

Sushi123765

Review of THE WOMAN IN CABIN 10. Overall I enjoyed the book although some of the twists and turns and twists and turns were a bit exhausting at times. Being locked in the small room under sea level was fairly well written and thought out. The part that bothers me is how the book starts. With a burglar in her flat and writing STOP DIGGING. Since she hadn't left for the boat, and only started digging after she heard the splash...it just doesn't make any sense how the beginning burglary fit with the rest of the story. There was also a little too much Agatha Christy-type dialogue and plotting. I've never been a fan of hers, so it was easy for me to pick out her influence on your writing. I'm an American so I hope I haven't blasphemed your fellow country woman. Keep writing and I'll keep reading. Aloha, Marguerite

Lauryn Armstrong

The main character is the worst. If you are considering reading this book, I would advise that you read a brief plot summary and skip the middle. Quite frankly, the only way I got through this book was sympathizing with the antagonists in the story. The main character is honestly the worst. She's incompetent, she's incredibly abrasive, and she's an idiot. It was really difficult to read this book from the perspective of wanting the main character to just go away. Otherwise, the story was good and interesting. It just made it difficult to care about the main character's well-being. The story could have also used more character development. Many of the characters in this story were sort of one-beat hits

Iheartmusic9

Page Turner!. Great book! Kept you wanting more. I love a book that makes it difficult for you to put down and this one did that. My only issue: The suspense kept growing and growing but the ending, in my opinion fell flat. Still a great book but it didn't make me say "Holy CRAP!" Out loud when I finished the last page.

Rupitilita2059

Awesome. I can usually predict what will happen next in other books, but this one kept me awake and hyperventilating! No sleep for me for a few nights! Fast paced and a great read!

Ashleyparham

Good. This was a "good" book. A little predictable.... But most are...

Delikins

Boring, Dry, and Flat. The rave reviews must be for another novel. This book contains flat characters, a convoluted plot, and evoke no sympathy for 'Lo. I, too, wish she had stopped looking too hard -- about 200 pages sooner.

Madison53705

Great storytelling, suspense!. I devoured this book in less than one day, couldn't stop til I reached the end. Worth the $ I paid for it.

Muehleder

Could Have Been Written Better. I liked the story but the writing was bland. The beginning was so good that I was hooked but the main character's weakness, and lack of ambition made it hard to like her. Might have been better if there were some chapters written in another characters perspective. If you like "who done it" stories and don't mind repetitive metaphors then you will enjoy the book because the story is pretty good.

Cmn_05

Loved it!!. This book was impossible to put down! The author writes in a way that makes you feel like you are right there in the story.

Krstenl

Why did I waste my time?. What in the world is everyone so excited about? This book sucked. And I have not read a boOk in over a year, so I was hoping to pick a good one. This was predictable and boring and poorly written. Don't waste your time. Ugh.

Rumplecypress

Great Book. It is not often that I find a new author to read, but all of that changed after discovering this book. The book is very well thought out and written. It keeps you intrigued from start to finish and, more importantly, it is believable - a big plus with me.

Jexxi

Not Scary, one dimensional characters. This is the kind of book you would read if on sale. I did finish it but it was simply to find out the who-done-it part. The main character is weak and I felt myself wanting to say "get a grip" the entire book.

Cozeck

Couldn't put down. Finally a book I could not put down, first one like that in a long time.

Spartan gal

A bit strange. I forced myself to keep reading, thinking it would become a bit more believable. The circumstances were a bit bizarre and reactions even more so. Interesting plot, just not well put together in my mind.

ReadingIsSexyAsk RoryGilmore

Nothing on Gillian Flynn. I read the hype. I thought it was just another mystery, no big deal. This book was a selction for Book of the Month this past August. I had read In a Dark, Dark Wood in 2015 and thought it would be a good read, it dissappointed me as well. The Woman in Cabin Ten is all plot, and not a very well thought out one at that. Lo Blacklock drew me in from the beginning but as soon as she gets on the ship the story became dull and I found my mind wandering. There is nothing more to this book than the plot; minimal character development and an unoriginal female lead. Why do mysteries continually have female leads that seem independent and confident at the beginning only to have a character flaw that allows them to be put just a notch below a “normal” person — think Girl on a Train’s alcoholic Rachel. Lo Blacklock suffers from anxiety and doesn’t have the know-how to know when to assess the situation and perhaps not tell everyone on the ship what she saw the night before…? C’mon Lo whoever did it is obviously on the boat with you. You’re in the middle of the Norweigen sea. Just once I’d like to see a book where the female lead is competent, strong, and people dare not mess with her. Ruth Ware is a master of the tease. Judged solely on the book jacket and the sample download I thought this book was going to be a winner. Sorry to say it disappoints and I won’t be reccommending it. If you’re looking for a good mystery thriller check out Gillian Flynn’s Sharp Objects. I guarantee you won’y be able to guess what’s coming next!

Disgruntledwiththisgarbage

Rambling & boring. Sad that this is the first book of hers that I've read bc I probably won't read another. It went over board in the descriptions of a drunkards thought processes. The ending was the best part.

T2Hearn

Good book but has some cons. Overall I thought this was a great book. It doesn't have the typically "loving" hero, which is a good thing IMO. This book starts out great but also the ending goes by very quickly without much explanation. I would still recommend this book to a friend.

2468snoozy

Interesting. Before I bought this book--- I read reviews that said the book was so scary...really scary. Don't read at night bla bla...great story. Well, 3/4 of the book was slow going...I almost gave up. I would almost say it was boring. The last 1/4 was good but that's a lot of pages to get to the good part. So, I can only say it was interesting.

Ruru3711

The Women in Cabin 10. Wow, what a story! Have to agree at last half of the book very tense. But I liked it.

Allnicknamestakenalready

Wonderful!. I read this book in one day - thank goodness it was a long weekend as I just couldn't put it down. Suspenseful with a plot that keeps moving and relatable, interesting characters. Very satisfying ending - just what I was hoping for. Highly recommend.

Fladaddy

Tedious tedious. I didn't find this plausible. The main character is so annoying mostly caring about her outfits it's hard to believe the plot. By the time the action happens I was ready to throw her overboard and admit it. It would have saved two barely developed characters lives, not to mention many more outfits. Winnie the Pooh on a luxury cruise ship murder mystery. I was really lost at that. I didn't find this a good read at all

Bbh8008

Not sure... The beginning started out with a bang. The middle was super slow. I started skipping when she kept saying the same thing 25 different ways. The end was ok. I felt like there was a lot of answered questions.

Uncdog20

The women in cabin 10. This book was a very slow read, I don't know how this made NY Times top 10.

The Woman in Cabin 10. Loved this book. It was a definite page turner that I didn't want to put down. It had twists and turns til the very end.

&$76(5402

Good thriller. Keeps your interest. The ending was a little rushed. Rest of book flowed nicely, but the ending left me wanting more of the detailed writing which really set the scene.

Mcmartinez4

Awesome!. What a page turner! It's so hard to put down. I read it in about 4 days. If you're into thrillers, this is a good read!

UWS GUY

Big disappointment. I really could not bear the main character or her endless whining. I started skipping pages about halfway though the book hoping it would somehow get better but it never did for me. Why I kept reading until the end was the only real mystery here.

Rb07191960

Loved it. First book of hers I've read, and really liked it. A page turner for sure. I already bought her other book.

Alygus04

Wow. Wow I tore through this book so fast. Highly recommend!!!

KP543

The drunk victim. The protagonist was chronically victimized, drunk and or generally freaked. I could not relate or really pull for her. While this book contains some descriptive, emotional and at times clever prose, I would not recommend it.

Mollyann78

Great read. My first book on I books. Was hooked immediately. Great writing and fast paced story.

K2333

Mediocre read. It is hard to like the main character, who you are supposed to root for.

SimplAna

I almost believed it to be possible. This was my first Ruth Ware novel and I'm so glad I chose this book from my Book of the Month book club. Not only was it my first Ruth Ware novel but it was also by first book from Book of the Month.... two great firsts. The story starts when the protagonist, Laura, wakes up in her home as it's being burgled. She suffers a minor injury but as we can all expect the emotional scars are a much more difficult to hide or cure. Laura, has been working at the same magazine for over 10 years and has recently gotten the opportunity to review a new luxury yacht during its maiden voyage. Hopefully the emotional scars and the lack of sleep from her burglary experience 3 days earlier will not impact this great opportunity at a promotion. The story was so well written that thought it all I could not get myself to stop thinking of "what could be happening." More than wanting to know who did it, I wanted to know most of all I wanted to know what happened and to whom. The style of writing kept me turning the pages. It was possible the short chapters, which I will admit most of the time feel as if they are interrupting my reading, but in the case of this book they served as a way for my brain to absorb what had just happened in the previous chapter. I found myself wanting to get to the next chapter ..... Just one more chapter mommy :) It was not until almost the end of the book, and only because Ruth Ware took mercy on me and decided to explain what happened, that I was comfortable with what had taken place on that ship..... But still I was asking myself as I reached the last page "Is Laura paranoid?" Having said all this, I will have to admit that there were things about the book that really annoyed me. I found Laura to be really whiny and frustrating. If I were on that ship with her I would have slapped her to make her snap out of it. Between her drinking and her headaches.... Take a pill already. She seemed to be ok with taking medication but why wasn't she taking headache pills and stop complaining already. I'm also not sure if the burglary at the beginning of the story is necessary. Sometimes I thought it was so there could be another suspect..... worked. But sometimes I feel as if it made the story less believable. So many things happening to one person...... Perhaps there was a different way. It was almost two stories in one and I kept waiting to find out how the two things tied together.... Maybe I missed something. Otherwise, I thought Ruth Ware handed us a novel tied up in a little bow. This is a great read but beware, you will be thinking about it all the time..... I know I was trying to figure out what happened and to whom even when I wasn't reading it.

TikiJuci

Excellent!. You won't be able to put it down!
