It Ends with Us
It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover Book Summary
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Starts with Us and All Your Perfects, a “brave and heartbreaking novel that digs its claws into you and doesn’t let go, long after you’ve finished it” (Anna Todd, New York Times bestselling author) about a workaholic with a too-good-to-be-true romance can’t stop thinking about her first love—soon to be a major motion picture starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.
Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town where she grew up—she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. And when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life seems too good to be true.
Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.
As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan—her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.
An honest, evocative, and tender novel, It Ends with Us is “a glorious and touching read, a forever keeper. The kind of book that gets handed down” (USA TODAY).

I was a little disappointed when I started reading It Ends With Us, and very confused why it was such a hit. If you’re like me, keep reading! It was worth every word. What an incredible, heart-wrenching story that captures the complexity of abusive relationships. This is so well written. Thank you for sharing your gift with us, Colleen.

Didn’t like the romance, boring, hated the plot

Great ending, quick read

Love this book. Heart wrenching pulls your heart out a few times but so good.

I thought it was good enough to finish the book. But it’s not my style of writing. And that’s okay. If you’re into risky romance with a followed storyline, this is for you!

Definitely would recommend!

Truly a great book!

I absolutely LOVED this book and I couldn’t put it down. I thought it was just going to be a love story but it’s all of that and naked truths. Highly recommend and definitely worth the hype!

My guilty pleasure to read

Colleen writes beautifully. So easy to read. Great story. I couldn’t put it down.

The storyline was amazing, and then ending does leave off on a good cliff hanger, but in my opinion VERY OVERRATED!

I really enjoyed this book. I did get a little emotional at times. I’ll be reading part two in a few days. 🥰

Truly expected such a different ending before I even started reading the first chapter. All together I think the book gives us the best ending to an unfortunate circumstance.

Probably the only person who could not get into this book.

It’s literally perfection in a book.

The author treated a hard subject matter with skill and insight. This was an excellent read.

So good I cried I laughed and that ending everything I needed !!!

Just not my genre

Really good read. Fast too. There is quite a bit of domestic violence so beware.

A. Z. Z SO. 🪨

i love this book it only took me almost a week to get done with. i couldn’t put it down.

It ends with us, is honestly one of the most moving books I’ve ever read.I think it’s such an amazing story;and I’m super glad to have red it.

Amazing and inspirational read! Really sheds light on abuse and allows the reader to learn to never judge someone based on their situation! 10/10, would recommend!

This book gives you such a different perspective on different types of relationships and some good advise on how to handle them. Colleen you are such an amazing writer!! I didn’t want to put this book down it was so good.

I’ve never been much of a reader. I wanted to challenge my mind to do something I don’t particularly enjoy. I decided to start with this book and I absolutely loved every bit of it!

This book was recommended to me by BookTok . I enjoyed it throughly. Not sure I’ll read the next one in the series. This one left off on well deserved ending for me.

I thought ML was 🥰🔥🫣🤭🌸 But with time I realised Not 🙄 But I liked the end 🌸

Read just reaaaad it

Sad, powerful, and educational.

I’m not a reader… well at least not until now. I usually go for self development books and take months to read. When I picked this book up I couldn’t find myself to put it down. I finally understood when people say “I can’t get my nose out of this good book”. It took me 3 days to finish, probably could have finished sooner if there were more hours in a day. It was everything I didn’t know I needed. It was like getting sleepy during a really good movie but fighting yourself to stay up because it’s so good! I envisioned every chapter like it was playing right in front of me. I laughed, I screamed, I cried, I felt every single emotion the characters felt. I love this book and I’ll probably be reading it over and over for the rest of my life. 100/10 recommend

TW :DV

I could not put this book down! Maybe because it was somewhat relatable, but it was just chapter after chapter and every excuse to sit down and continue reading! I wish the story never ended.

I cried I smiled I laughed this book was great

For whatever reason, I always find myself re-reading the book over and over and over again before I go to sleep.

i’ve never been into reading but this this book made me find a love in books i’ve never had

I loved the writing and the story line !

This book is so well written but also at the same time emotional, talks about serious situations and the process of getting through difficult times0 is really touching book.

Plot was engaging. Loved this story

The plot of the book itself isn’t bad but the execution misses a lot of key points. The characters have good depth and I liked the perspective changes that happen while reading but overall the book sounds like it was written by a middle schooler. The immature writing style combined with the lack of creativity in the current perspective, make the book difficult to enjoy or finish. While cringing the entire way through due to the writing style, the romanticization of abusive themes and how they are so ignored at times just show the damaged perspective and give the wrong feedback to the audience. As a young reader, it would have been more impactful to see the main character really stand up for herself and take legal actions against someone who physically and sexually assaulted her instead of allowing him to father her child. Colleen Hoover’s book was very disappointing and I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone to read. I wouldn’t advise this for anyone who wants a true romance, smut, or other enjoyable or deep touching plot lines.

Sososo good! I loved it so much, i wasn’t at all expecting half the things that happened. so many plot twists! definitely recommend

Such a great book

This was such a beautiful book with a lot of useful knowledge. Loved the ending

Anyone who’s experienced DV should read. Made me cry.

Loved this book ! I could read it over again and not get bored of it. Definitely recommend to everyone!

Loved this book

Many women and men find out after the fact that the person they are living with is not who they thought they were. Sometimes it becomes a dangerous situation. Don’t feel like you’ve failed. Some people need help that is beyond your skill set. Know when you have had enough and let that person get professional help. It’s okay to extinguish the fire. Don’t get burned up in the process. This book touches on a relationship that goes through the process of identifying and understanding what to do in a volatile situation with someone you love. Excellent story and a great read!

Love, love, loved.

I loved this book! Fast pace and I overall loved the book other then the cliff hanger at the end , 2nd book definitely is 5 stars but I feel like this book dosent give much closer and I wish there was a bit more spice but that’s just me. I wish you could get to understand Atlas better but it the second book it honestly makes up for everything.

This novel was nothing short of amazing. I could feel myself loving the characters and feeling their heartbreak. This changed my entire perspective on abusive relationships. I wish I could read it for the first time again!

As a survivor of narcissistic abuse by my ex husband and my father, I have so much respect for the way the characters are presented. Abuse is a pattern and until we courageously stop the pattern it will continue.

Finished it in 4 days. I couldn’t put it down. Easy read, good for someone trying to get into reading more.

I enjoyed it, was hard to accept the ending. Maybe that’s the girl in me who always picked the bad boys.

YESS

Read in less than 24 hours, hooked from the first page. Absolutely amazing

Do I even need to say more? Colleen hoover sure loves her romantic abuse stories but this one includes a homeless chef who has a thing for 15 year olds.

A heartbreaking story but I loved it.

Easy read. Good read.

The only reason why this book is rated so high is because people are so easily impressed by hot garbage pretending to be deep. It’s obvious these readers haven’t read anything of substance, so they think this uninspired, fan-fiction adjacent mess is enjoyable to read. Not only is it poorly written, but it has the worst characters and plot known to man. She’s writing in a diary to Ellen DeGeneres at the age of 15? That genuinely didn’t make you laugh out loud? She falls in love with a creepy loser who begs on his knees for s*x and on top of that his name is Ryle? You’re telling me that isn’t a joke? The plot conveniences and sad excuses for being deep makes this one of the worst books I ever read. I keep hearing people say this book is bad because it “romanticizes ab*se”. No, it doesn’t - it just does a piss poor job of portraying it. Colleen Hoover, do the world a favour and stop writing books. You are singlehandedly ruining the world of literature - and that is not an exaggeration.

Incroyable l’auteure écrit super bien seulement pas mon préféré genre de livre

Amazing story. I could not put the book down after I started. The book is described as heartbreaking and I agree. Even though my heart aches from the ending it was the perfect way to end the book and bring perspective to some women. I am amazed at how many emotions it made me feel

I fell in love with the characters and their different mindsets. The whole book is so good that I finished the whole thing in a day! The connection between the characters is very interesting. Lots of ups and downs which makes it interesting. Love the plot twist in this book so much. I just feel torn about the outcome. Colleen really gave us a roller coaster ride. Definitely recommend this book for hot people and I also recommend "It Starts With Us"

Read the book to see what the hype was, it was a good/easy read!

Definitely fell in love with the characters in this book and I feel so torn about the out come. Thank you for the roller coaster ride!

Amazing

I personally felt like the takeaway message from this story wasn’t great. Characters didn’t have much dimension to them, and the vocab was underwhelming. Good story, not so great execution.

I couldn’t put this book down. Amazing read. This author is brilliant:)

I can’t even describe the feelings I went through the first time I read this book. I was told it was a romance book, that is a horribly wrong description. This is not a romance novel it is a story that covers a very important and sensitive topic. This book was almost like a wake up call to me it really helped me understand the perspective of the abused, they don’t always know that they’re being abused. They get blindsided by love and promise. This is something so many people across the world have struggle with and continue to, and the fact that someone can do that to another person, and then convince them that they are the one in the wrong is so scary. This book shows how this happens as well it really brings a light to the gaslighting that takes place which not only makes it physical but also mental abuse. When someone has just been injured by you and then you proceed to tell them it was their fault, and that they did it to them self is truly and horrific thing to do. I could talk about this book all day long but to bring it to a rap I just want to say that this book changed me and the way I feel about reading, I didn’t read much before it but now I have 7 Colleen Hoover books simply because this book showed me how much words can bring a story to life. The fact that this is a true story as well just makes it even more powerful. I recommend reading the authors note at the end of the book. I already have it starts with us on preorder it arrived at my house today so I am so excited to read it. Much love, stay safe❤️

I couldn’t put the book down! A must read.

I love this book. I cried sometimes to this book and I'm proud of lily for leaving and stopping the relationship before it got too late. I found this book on TikTok and some people say that it's not that good but everyone had their own opinions and my friend and I personally like it.

Her books got to come worth a trigger warning 🥹🥹 love love love

This was an incredible story, and many parts brought me to tears. I could feel what Lily felt in each moment and struggled through each decision right along with her. Beautiful ending.

Not really the ending I was hoping for.

I went into this book blindly, I seen it recommended on TikTok and thought I’d give it a try. It has changed my life for the better, love this book and recommend to anyone whom has felt alone in a toxic relationship 💓

Really great read!!!

Finished in 2 days! I could not put it down!

It was raw and captivating and so good. I couldn’t put it down. Sex, betrayal and love perfectly written into one story.

So many romance novels have the same kind of story lines to the point you know what’s going to be said next. I found myself losing interest in them honestly. But this? Amazing, plot twists, heartbreaking and overall just breathtaking. I cried lots, I laughed out loud and I genuinely enjoyed reading this. Phenomenal.

I read this in less than 24 hours as a busy mom with young twins. This book will stick with me forever and I could not put it down during nap times! I can’t wait to read the second novel when it comes out. One of my favourites I’ve ever read

Couldn’t put this book down, easily a one day read. Brings a whole new light to an incredibly difficult topic.

Couldn't put this book down for a minute!

Read this book in less than 2 days! Absolutely amazing!

I loved this book. It brings so much light to the topic of domestic abuse, and I’ve never really had anyone in my life talk about it before (thank god because I hope no one I know is going through it), and it was a beautiful rollercoaster of a story. I was team Atlas from day one though, ngl. THANK YOU COLLEEN HOOVER FOR ANOTHER WONDERFUL READ <3

I am so obsessed with this book! I couldn’t put it down. I am immediately reading the second book. No wonder EVERYONE is reading this. Do yourself a favour and read this book!!!!

Awesome

This book was everything between heartbreaking, romantic, devastating, magical, and more. I couldn’t stop reading. Make sure you read the epilogue.

holy moly, this book put me through such an emotional roller coaster ✋🏼. before it ends with us, i hadn’t read anything in 6 years. the only reason i started reading it was because of my friend paige. she said i should read it and i was like maybeee but then i didn’t. then she recommended it to my other friend alexa, and she started reading it. they were always talking about it and i felt left out of the convo so i started reading it. next thing i know, i’m finished before alexa cause i read 10 chapters every day lol. i finished the book in less than a week! not super impressive, but for someone who never EVER reads i think it’s pretty decent. anyway this book is so good. it’s not your average love story. it deals with the topics of physical and emotional abuse, which really makes the love story so much deeper. anywho i would recommend this book to anyone with a brain and a heart. idec if it’s not their kind of book. anyone in the right mind would love it. (atlas corrigan 🫶🏼)

I really liked this book. I couldn’t stop reading! So touching. 100% would recommend.

I really couldn’t stop reading the moment I read the first chapter! This book is amazing! Loved everything about it and what it stood for 💜

Honestly I didn’t love it. Don’t get me wrong- it’s a good book with an important message about abuse. The characters are dynamic and the story is interesting enough to keep you reading but I just didn’t feel like it was awe inspiring like I was lead to believe. It’s a little repetitive and for such a deep and hard hitting message I found it a little shallow. 🤷♀️

Was so good I finished it in less than 1 week.

This book was fantastic. An easy read…heartbreaking while at the same time it is inspirational. A great read for any young women going through tough times with their partner. I feel as though many could resonate with this, as I know I did. I will definitely be reading more of Colleen Hoovers books.

10/10 recommend this book. Will be reading it again hopefully. Storyline is marvellous, the author did an excellent job!

this was my firsh coho book and im obsessed

I had seen this book all over my tik too and decided to give it a read. I honestly don’t regret it. Colleen thank you so much for this enjoyable read! You truly are gifted

Very good book, I recommend.

One of the best books I’ve read in a long time! The storyline in the book is phenomenal and the message behind the book makes it all the more significant. Definitely recommend to read!

This book made me feel okay. Okay that I was once Jenny Bloom and once lily. This healed every part it needed to heal!

Fell in love with Riley and fell out of love. The book took me for a spin. I enjoyed Coleen Hoover’s writing throughout the book. Lily ultimately made the best choice for herself and her future. Now to see what comes next.

this was by far .. the best. book. i’ve. ever. read. I had to set my phone down so many times to just sit down, and cry. SERIOUSLY recommend.

I loved it !

I’m not a reader…. At all. But I picked this up on a vacation and couldn’t keep my hands off! I finished it in 3 days!

When true love becomes the ultimate sacrifice to end a chain of abuse the right choice isn’t a given but it does represent safety for offspring and sanity for families. Please read this book!

I couldn’t put the book down.

A must read. A roller coaster of emotions I did not want to get off of. Thank you Colleen for sharing this wonderful story with us.

Wow! This book was written perfectly. You really felt everything the characters were going through and it had some mystery to it you just want to keep reading to find out what happens next.

I did not enjoy this book and wish I had not read it. It was wayyyy over hyped. Would not recommend.

no.

best book i’ve ever read and the fastest i’ve ever read any book in my whole life

Absolutely love this book! I loved the Ellen letters omg 😫 my favorite part was the tattoo omg I absolutely fell in love w Atlas💗 this story touched my heart.

Once you start you’ll look forward to reading more and more! There will be moments where the writer will get deep within you and you’ll feel everything!

absolutely loved it! easy read!

I still don’t. I’m reading it starts with us now and I’m sad knowing I just bought both books 24 hours ago & im halfway through the second already. 10/10

My favorite colleen Hoover book so far! So captivating from start to finish. She can create such lovable characters!

I resisted reading this, because I usually don’t go for the popular reads, this one was worth breaking that trend. Well written, believable and connectable characters…. And a message, I will recommend.

Engaging and realistic! I was quickly drawn to the story and couldn’t put it down.

Absolutely loveeed it!

This book gave me so many emotions.was my first book read and is the reason i fell in love with reading <3

It was one of those books I couldn’t put down. Inspiring and so much raw emotions and passion.

I’m not a good reader, I struggle actually with reading. But this book was spectacular and so lovely to read. It has the drama, the love, the passion, and I was able to follow through with completing the book. Definitely worth the hype. I even purchased the next book. It starts with us !

I could not put the book down . Read it .

As someone who has survived domestic violence, I have so much appreciation for this book and how it portrays the internal struggles one faces with interpersonal violence. 10/10 would recommend for anyone who has survived or wants to better understand the reality of Dv.

This book had me feeling so many emotions.

This book was so good it had lots of twists and turns and I could not put it down!

Colleen Hoover has captured the true feelings a woman experiences with love, abuse and recovery. Lily is a character who could be anyone’s neighbor, sister, or friend. Unfortunately, I too was a women who experienced abuse in a relationship, and this author encapsulates every feeling that occurs. The pain, the tears, the hurt, she also brings in all the feelings of what recovering and healing from the pain, tears and hurt can do for a person. This book has made me feel proud of Lily and for all women who have escaped and broken the pattern.

The overall story had an important message, although everything was somewhat predictable and as I was reading, I couldn’t help but compare the style of writing to the young adult books that I read when I was in early high school. I finished the entire book but didn’t think that there was anything in particular that really really stood out about it. I believe the book was overhyped and wouldn’t give the recommendation to others to take the time to purchase and read it.

I absolutely loved this book and had me hooked every single chapter!! I love the way she made me fall in love with the characters and then made me have tears in my eyes at the very unexpected turn of events!!! 10/10

Love it 🫶

This story gives you every emotion imaginable. Couldn’t stop reading and can’t wait to read Its starts with us.

It’s a little cheesy but still very hard to put down. I read through this in under 2 days!

Lilnasty

Loved this book to no end. Super well written, loved Ryle in the beginning; Absolutely hate him now. But beautiful book and I love the second one as well!

Her books never disappoint🥹 so excited to read it starts with us!

I can’t even start to explain how much I enjoyed this book. It was beautifully written with much attention to detail. The storyline was phenomenal, I couldn’t stop reading it. I read this book in 1 day and the second one the next day. It really is the best series I’ve ever read, and probably will be the best one for quite a while. I highly recommend reading the second book, “it starts with us”, which starts off exactly how this book ended. I absolutely loved the ending of the series, it ended perfectly and I didn’t need to ask myself questions about what happened next. If you like romance with complications, this is absolutely the book for you, it’ll have you hooked in like none before.

This book is the first I read of Colleen and I loved it

The cost of this book is nuts. The story isn’t bad but is lacking A LOT! There really isnt much detail or chemistry building between the characters. Its also way too short for the price. I’ve read better and longer for 99 cents.

I loved this book. It is the book that made me love to read because my third grade teacher made us read all the time, and if someone wants you to do something, you don’t want to do it more. Except my sister told me to pick it up and start reading, so I did. It was good and I lended it to my grandma to read right now. I am sorry for Colleen Hoover and her mother of how they had to go through that. But it was good.

I didn’t want to put this book down! It made me laugh, made me smile, and sometimes made me tear up. Full of emotion and opened my eyes to some of the truths behind abuse. Great read!

the pov of the characters, the passion, the pain, that love, the plot… it was all in there

This book was filled with so many emotions, some parts brought me to tears.

I don’t normally read books like these, but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. I borrowed it from a friend, needing something to pass the time but it kept me interested and eager to find out more. What am I going to do with my life now that I finished it is the question…
