“Here’s the best news you’ve heard all year: Not a single page disappoints....The only difficulty withTruly Madly Guilty? Putting it down." —Miami Herald

“Captivating, suspenseful…tantalizing.” —People Magazine

The new novel from Liane Moriarty, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Husband’s Secret, Big Little Lies, and What Alice Forgot, about how sometimes we don’t appreciate how extraordinary our ordinary lives are until it’s too late.

Six responsible adults. Three cute kids. One small dog. It’s just a normal weekend. What could possibly go wrong?

In Truly Madly Guilty, Liane Moriarty turns her unique, razor-sharp eye towards three seemingly happy families.

Sam and Clementine have a wonderful, albeit, busy life: they have two little girls, Sam has just started a new dream job, and Clementine, a cellist, is busy preparing for the audition of a lifetime. If there’s anything they can count on, it’s each other.

Clementine and Erika are each other’s oldest friends. A single look between them can convey an entire conversation. But theirs is a complicated relationship, so when Erika mentions a last minute invitation to a barbecue with her neighbors, Tiffany and Vid, Clementine and Sam don’t hesitate. Having Tiffany and Vid’s larger than life personalities there will be a welcome respite.

Two months later, it won’t stop raining, and Clementine and Sam can’t stop asking themselves the question:What if we hadn’t gone?

In Truly Madly Guilty, Liane Moriarty takes on the foundations of our lives: marriage, sex, parenthood, and friendship. She shows how guilt can expose the fault lines in the most seemingly strong relationships, how what we don’t say can be more powerful than what we do, and how sometimes it is the most innocent of moments that can do the greatest harm.

So-so. I was disappointed. I really looked forward to the release of this book and in the end, the incident at the bbq was bad, but not worth a whole book leading up to it.

Itmeltedintowonder

Pulled it together at the end…. Although it pulled it together in the end, the first 3/4 were like slogging through a pond full of cold oatmeal. I thought I’d never make it but it was somehow compelling enough that I couldn’t mark at as DNF.

Fresno Mary

Don't bother. I really enjoyed other books by this author but I recommend you save your $10 and keep looking. The plot just drags and drags and the characters are so neurotic and unlikable that ultimately you don't care what happened before, during or after the infamous BBQ.

Yodathesmoda

Was a fan.. I've read all of this author's books and loved them. Except this one. So dull. Couldn't even force myself to finish it. I knew there was a reason it was deeply on sale be. If you loved Liane's earlier works be cautious. This book is not like those!

Carlos R Rod

Truly Madly Guilty. Perfection! You did it again Ms Moriarty! Loved how each character got your full attention; they each had something vital to contribute to the story and they felt very relatable and real; job well done and I cannot wait for your next book!

Jule23

Disappointing. I am a huge Liane Moriarty fan, so much so I preordered this and stalked my mailbox until it arrived. Maybe I expected too much but this book fell short. The story line fell flat and felt like it was rushed to be published. Not nearly as good as Husband's Secret, Three Wishes, or my favorite, Big Little Lies.

Jimminy crick3t

Truly,Madly Guilty. Fantastic read. I couldn't put it down. Cleverly written, the way events spool backwards. All of the characters were so humanly, believably flawed. The ending will leave you satisfied. Best read of my summer!

Toscabella

Not her best. I have to agree with the others who said this was not her best book. I love this author and was anticipating this book. Unlike her other books, the characters are very flat, caricatures and I couldn't relate to them as I did in her other novels. Her work is always worth a read but this one was mediocre and not on par with her other stories.

Baxrax9

V disappointing. Shockingly predictable and uneventful, esp compared to husbands secret & big little lies. They were great books. Not sure what's happened but would not say it was by the same author ☹️

Ebd09

Slow. This book was so slow at first, but at least it did pick up in the second half. It was okay, but not great so I would not recommend to a friend. This was my third Liane Moriarity book and I felt like this after each one, guess I should move on from her....

Mywaynichols76

Loved it!!. The story kept me interested throughout the entire book. It was definitely worth my time and money.

Melis196

Just Ok-Don’t Compare with Big Little Lies. This was definitely a suspenseful read and finished with a nice bow but I thought there would be more of a twist or shock factor to the story overall. Not as intriguing Moriarty’s other titles.

AMBONDCH

Amazing book!. Complex characters with deep storylines for each one. I don’t know where she comes up with this stuff! Her writing is so beautiful and funny. I can’t stop reading her books, and this one is my favorite so far because of the way she paints the relationships between the characters so richly. I didn’t want it to end.

Whim1954

Great read. Highly recommend this book. The “event “ is truly worth the suspense.

Rlmurra2

It was ok, kept waiting for more though. I enjoyed the characters (although not my favorite characters of Liane Moriarty’s books), I always feel like I can relate with at least one of them. It wasn’t terrible but kind of meh. I was hoping for a happy turnaround at the end like “What Alice Forgot” but the end left me wanting more out of the story. The big event at the barbecue definitely was not what you’d expect from the buildup to it. I did appreciate the building to the actual event and then some story left after. But overall the story didn’t wow me.

Chelsea Stump

Boring. Boring.

Crewp

Difficult to stick with. Like many others, waited anxiously for this book. It was well written and with interesting characters but way too long with too little to hold your interest. I eventually skipped ahead and skimmed final half of book.

Knit Nammy

Well........ I absolutely loved her other books. I pre-ordered this one with great anticipation. I finally finished it today, and I have to say that it is nowhere near the wonderful story telling I've come to the expect from this author. Why the loooooong build up to the "barbecue incident?" I understand she was trying to build suspense, but after reading half the book and getting to the barbecue inch by inch, I really didn't care what happened. It just seemed like such a ploy. The characters were so thinly drawn, except, in my opinion, Tiffany and Oliver. The book went on way too long, and it took much too long for the grouchy old man next door to emerge as part of the story. Spoiler alert! (All the way to the end of the book!) This book was a disappointment for me. Hopefully the next will be more readable than this one.

Suzette23

Truly Madly Guilty. This book is tedious, just plodding along. I could never figure out the characters. There is no plot or story. It just goes on and on.

Cck1103

Truly Madly Guilty. I couldn’t finish this book. It is maddening how long it took to get to the point! And it was extremely depressing. Had to stop reading. Ugh.

NolaWin65

Truly madly guilty. This book is unnecessarily long. You should read long enough to learn the characters, skip to the middle to learn the incident, and skip to the end. Don’t bother reading the book; it will bore you to death.

Caro-dream

Disappointed. I really wanted to like this book. I usually love this author but this book was my least favourite. The characters were boring as was the story. I'm glad I borrowed it from my library.

Thesimsfreeplay

I'd give it a zero🙏🏼. This is the worst book I've read (and I've read horrible books). I wish the author luck in her career. She needs it writing like this. I'm very angry for wasting my money and I wouldn't recommend this at all. "aT ALL"

Denio64

Truly madly guilty. Great book, covers a lot if ground if you can slow down to think. Lots of suspense, lots of wonderful characters. Deals with guilt, passion, parenting, mental illness and most of all the true deep goodness in people.

K. Hutton

Amazing read. Couldn’t put it down! Just had to know what happened at that bbq! Definitely recommending to my reader-friends! Enjoy

Chicasixburgh

Not bad writing just a boring story line. Once all was revealed of what happened at the party, I was no longer interested in following the story or the characters. Definitely not on par with the other thrillers that this came up as relevant to

Herbettajean

Truly madly guilty. Not one likable character to make the wait for what happened at the stupid bar b q bearable. Bad grammar, typos just made it worse.

JHW817

Great Read.. Great story line and very well written. Highly recommend this book

FlyFish3r

Worth the read!. I don't know what all the haters are talking about on this one.... I have read every book Liane Moriarty has written and this one did not disappoint! I absolutely love how she uses real human foibles to weave her rich stories. It really gives you an inside look into people going through different trials in life. I read a review that said the characters were not likeable but I didn't find this to be the case at all. I'm glad I ignored all the not so great reviews and gave this book a shot. Can't wait to read her next book!

MCSCOTT702

SO DULL!!!. Like other reviewers, I am a fan of Liane’s writing and enjoyed her writing. I flew through her other books in as quick as a day and I was really excited for this one! However, I found myself getting irritated at the drawn out story. They keep alluding to the events that happen at the BBQ, but when it finally gets to that part, its not even that great. The whole build-up felt anti-climatic. Many times I wanted to quit reading this, but because I spent money on the book I made myself finish it…and it took me several weeks because it was so dull!!! Do yourself a favor and SKIP THIS ONE!

Two stars is generous

Disappointed. I am 100 pages into this book and am so disappointed- no plot, no story, nothing to relate about in any of the characters. I am quite astonished by the 5 star reviews, I give it a zero.

ShellMor

Loved this!. Such a great story…never a dull moment!

Sues004

Slow reading first half of the story. First half was difficult to make myself keep reading the book. The second half of the book was better.

Shamrock0720

Ehhhhhh. The two main female characters are so confusing, and not in a good way. They constantly over analyze themselves and it's exhausting to the reader. I love all the authors other books but this one was hard to get thru.

Jaira jai

Good drama for a slow read. Lovely story telling . I felt it was best to take a whole week to read this one (slowly) to really develop the characters In my mind.

Connie Jo York

Loved this book!. Seriously, I could hardly set the book down. Loved the surprises throughout. Lots of small, funny statements also. Liane Moriarty is one of my favorite authors and this latest book certainly did not disappoint. Best yet.

DB Railfan

Truly madly guilty. Loose ends, jumping around from 1 day to present, too much. Not her best work.

BookLovinTreeHugger

Do NOT waste your time/$. My book club selected this book and I was initially intrigued but the lead-up to the climax dragged and the climax was the epitome of anticlimactic. I grew to hate the characters and their inability to get on with life. Wine should be required to accompany this book-its the only way to get through it. Wish I could get my time and money back.

Lillykitty9494

Boring!. I have enjoyed this authors other books, but should have skipped this one! The book almost infuriated me on how anti-climatic and boring it was. Don't waste your money or time on this book.

Wendypl

Page turner. You’ll never be able to guess what happens next.

Takysirl

No stars. If I could give this 0 stars I would. It was so suspenseful, but otherwise incredibly boring and uninsteresting that I ended up skipping ahead to see what happened at the BBQ, something I never do. I haven't picked up the book since and have no intention of finishing. Complete waste of money.

Holli1215

Not great. I was excited to read this book based on the synopsis. You didn't find out what happened at the bbq until 1/2 way through which I personally thought was too long. The book dragged on and on for me. It could have been 100 pages or more shorter and had the same effect. Even though the "event" was definitely live changing, it was a let down for me. The end brought the rating up a little but kind of a blah/meh read.

Jennifersue000

Disappointing. After long awaiting the release of another Liane Moriaty book, I found this to be a disappointment. It was exhausting and seemed to drag in relentlessly to an ending that was far from worth it. Skip this one die-hard fans. You'll thank me later.

Rlgrubbs

Disappointed. It was lengthy & would never end. I made myself finish it but wished I'd never started it. -not a page turner

Jenny1986

One of the Worst I’ve Read…. I loved Big Little Lies, but this book was the worst I’ve read in a long time. It continued to drag on and on, and by the time I reached the end I felt like I had wasted my time. It’s very rare that I feel annoyed that I took the time to finish a book, but that is exactly what happened once I reached the end of Truly Madly Guilty. It was just pointless.

Dnpwrm

Eh. A lot of words for not much happening.

Kaykaybean13

Great. Loved it

Maiway

First rate read. Moriarty has always excelled at maintaining suspense. Now she's matured into a wise observer of human nature as well. This book tunnels into the psychology of adults and children, examining the aftermath of a near-tragedy, its impact on the marriages and family dynamics of the people involved. At the same time, it entertains - Moriarty's breezy humor and expert pacing are at their best.

Andrealynnstuartfarris

Suspense that never delivers.. It wasn't terrible, it just wasn't good. So much build up and suspense but I kept waiting for it to "get good" and it never did. Like reading a boring magazine on an airplane to pass the time.

Perky too

Truly Madly Guilty. I thought this book would never end! I have to agree with the reviewers who gave it one or two stars. I waited months to get it from the digital library as it seemed so popular and I have enjoyed her other books. What in the world was she thinking? I was so bored I finally skimmed through the second half. A very big disappointment ‼️

Great read!!. Loved it!! Highly recommended!!

Denmoss

Bravo. As good or better as her other books, I love her character development. She is an amazing writer.

Reihino00

one of my favorite recent reads. somehow just found myself completely enthralled in this boook. the characters were so arresting and vivid and truly was kept guessing until the end. the climax of the book includes a heart wrenching twist you don’t see coming. really recommend.

DG222222

Good read. Really enjoyed this book. Kept me interested all the way through!

Coza__22

Disappointing. I bought the hardcover of this book, as I have thoroughly enjoyed all of Liane Moriarty's previous novels. I would say that she is probably my favourite author. The plot of this book was disappointing and disjointed. The "twist" and repercussions of it were not believable. I had to force myself to read the book, when normally I can't turn a page fast enough out of anticipation. I really hope that this book is just a one-off and her future books will be back on track.

Raspberrytoes

Truly madly guilty. Nothing worse than hinting at an event (the bbq) for most of the book…..

Smacaroni4

Truly Madly Deeply. I waited for months for this book to come out and I was pretty disappointed when I finally read it. The characters were hard to like or even relate to. There is a lot of suspense, which is what kept me reading and why I gave it three stars instead of two. But when you finally find out what happened at the BBQ it is a bit of a letdown. Anti-climatic. Not a book I recommend.

Bluehairedlady

Truly Madly Guilty. Truly skip this one. Unlikeable characters. A lot of build up about what happened only to be let down I love this author but this book not so much.

SOCALYOGINI

Truly, madly, guilty. Horrible book. I tried to just download the sample, and accidentally downloaded the book. Waste of money. Tried to start reading... But it was so bad, I don't even want to waste my time.

AllyDenny

Disappointing. I'm a huge fan of literally every other Liane Moriarty book, except this one. The plot was okay, but the climax is such a let down. I read the entire book but almost gave up a few times. So disappointing - don't spend the money.

BPF72

Not her best.... I've read every book this author has written and have loved them all. I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one and while it had potential, it was a bit disappointing. I felt like there was way too much build up prior to finding out what happened at the barbecue and I was confused by Erika and Clementine's relationship. Readable but not as good as her others.

SHADESUITEowner

Truly, FOOLISH. I waited so long for another release from an author with a flawless track record. There was totally potential and I love the style that she writes ..I hated all of the characters which I could have overlooked with enough of a climax. This is Liane at her worst. Hey...no one is perfect. I thought she was. Then this was released. Womp womp whaaaaa

Reclusive1

Truly Madly Guilty. This book was exhausting. A good editor would have shortened it considerably and talked the author out of the "skullduggery "

Kailahess

WORSE BOOK EVER!!!. This is absolutely the most horrible book I have ever read. Do NOT waste your money on this book!
